i was thinking about a fanfiction where Gaara and Naruto are together and before him, Naruto had a relationship with Sasuke. They meet 3 years after Sasuke died and Naruto was still in grief for him. But Gaara still manage to get closer and closer until Naruto feels the same. Gaara loves Naruto with all his heart but he understands that he's not the love of Naruto's life and he is just a "replacement" of his old love. Every year during Sasuke's birthday, Naruto acts like it's nothing, that he's not suffering anymore and everything it's fine, but Gaara can see the live drained out of him from the moment his boyfriend wakes up on that day. Gaara remembers all the time that Naruto whispered Sasuke's name when he was half asleep, and he doesn't feel angry about it, just the most immense pain that makes him out of breath.
