take your child abuse roleplay somewhere else, bye đ đ
beautiful things are beginning to manifest.
My whole life Iâve been telling myself, âdonât be afraidâ. And it is only now that Iâm realizing how stupid that is. Donât be afraid. Like saying, âdonât move out of the way when someone tries to punch youâ or âdonât flinch at the heat of fireâ or âdonât blinkâ. Donât be human. Iâm afraid and youâre afraid and weâre all always going to be afraid, because thatâs the point. What I should be telling myself is 'be afraid, but do it anywayâ. Live anyway.

Just an FYI for those in the US with insurance issues
this sounds oddly plausible
a good doctor will pester the insurance company on your behalf. a couple times in my Back Pain Odyssey my insurance noped out on a procedure, and my doctor called them up and was like âno, reallyâ and they gave in.
so if your insurance is in the habit of going âyou donât actually need TWO months of physical therapy, just walk it off,â tell the doctor who ordered it, and they may very well volunteer to, or agree to, call up the insurance people and go âsimon says pay for the fucking therapy.â
For all my peeps out there fighting the good fight against Big Pharma Bureaucratic Bullshit.

The man holding this #BlackLivesMatter sign is Richmond (CA) police chief Chris Magnus, whose department has not lost an officer or killed a citizen since 2007, the year after he took over. This is not an accident, this peacefulness is the direct result of his leadership. Police departments across the country should be looking to his department as an example to be followed.
âChief Magnus changed the department from one that focused on âimpact teamsâ of officers who roamed rough neighborhoods looking to make arrests to one that required all officers to adopt a âcommunity policingâ model, which emphasizes relationship building.
âWe had generations of families raised to hate and fear the Richmond police, and a lot of that was the result of our style of policing in the past. It took us a long time to turn that around, and weâre seeing the fruits of that now. There is a mutual respect now, and some mutual compassion.ââ
the interview is pretty awesome if you want to watch it:Â https://www.yahoo.com/news/richmond-california-police-chief-chris-magnus-talks-community-policing-in-katie-couric-interview-044448393.html?ref=gs
They also do regular officer trainings with roleplay scenarios and airsoft guns to teach them how to de-escalate, how to avoid firing when fired upon, and how to deal with people with weapons in a way that doesnât end with a shootout.
They also apparently go through the details of officer-involved shootings elsewhere, picking them apart and using them as teaching tools for what NOT to do or what the officer could have done to avoid shooting the person.
Essentially, they take a proactive approach to not shooting people and put time, money, and effort into it. Richmond isnât a low-crime area. Other cities could follow their model and almost certainly see results.
Whoâd have thought it would take so much work to learn how to just ⌠NOT shoot people
These are the sort of police officers who deserve respect. The ones who take the time to build a relationship with the community theyâre supposed to be protecting, and work to actually protect people instead of just shooting anyone who looked scary.
In before anyone tries to say that the only reason this works is because Richmond is probably like ânot as badâ as other places in the US
I grew up here. Iâm close to Richmond. It used to be one of the most dangerous cities in America. Literally. In 2006 it was #11 in the Most Dangerous Cities in America.Â
Now? It doesnât even break the top 100.
What changed? This guy became police chief in 2007.
ITâS SO FUCKING WEIRD HOW THAT WORKS! *looks pointedly at every other police force in America*
what men call âlogicâ is really just a lack of empathy
and what they call âobjectivityâ is really just subjectivity lacking in self awareness
And what they call âcommon senseâ is usually just a series of social biases that theyâve never bothered to analyze or question.

The way that we learn about Helen Keller in school is an absolute outrage. We read âThe Miracle Workerâ- the miracle worker referring to her teacher; sheâs not even the title character in her own story. The narrative about disabled people that we are comfortable with follows this format- âovercomingâ disability. Disabled people as children. Helen Keller as an adult, though? She was a radical socialist, a fierce disability advocate, and a suffragette. Thereâs no reason she should not be considered a feminist icon, by the way, and the fact that she isnât is pure ableism- while other white feminists of that time were blatant racists, she was speaking out against Woodrew Wilson because of his vehement racism. She supported womanâs suffrage and birth control. She was an anti-war speaker. She was an initial donor to the NAACP. She spoke out about the causes of blindness- often disease caused by poverty and poor working conditions. She was so brave and outspoken that the FBI had a file on her because of all the trouble she caused.
Yet when we talk about her, itâs either the boring, inspiration porn story of her as a child and her heroic teacher, or as the punchline of ableist, misogynistic jokes. Itâs not just offensive, itâs downright disgusting.
