I’ve always enjoyed building things. Using my hands. Making something out of nothing. I may not be the most creative gal, but you better believe I’ll problem solve until I get it juuust right. What started out as a hobby, is now turning into the pursuit of a lifelong dream. Thanks to @kati_hetrick for buying my first lamp (pic 1) and @beccac for the cutting board (pic 4, Walnut+Pine). I’ve made 5 lamps in similar styles, 4 are left ($85-$100). 2 cutting boards available now ($90/ea, Pine+Alder, Pine+Cherry). Lights will be available for pickup this Wednesday. Spain. I almost didn’t make it due to passport issues. I had to wave my friends off as I tried to get a new passport within 24 hours, in a city I had no place to sleep, and no car. I felt overwhelming anxiety I had never experienced before. I was pushed outside my comfort zone and forced to problem solve and be a real adult, (when I’ve been pretending for 30 years). I was helped and comforted by perfect strangers and it renewed my hope in the absolute goodness of humanity. I boarded the plane the next day with tears of gratitude in my eyes. Now only anxious to be reunited with my friends for a trip of a lifetime. Visiting a foreign country, not speaking the language, and meeting people with completely different backgrounds, lifestyles and beliefs changes your perspective on life. It makes you feel small and sometimes uncomfortable, but oddly connected to the world around you. I arrived in Spain to the smiling faces and encouraging chants of four humans who I now consider to be my best friends for life. I knew then and there I was meant to be on this trip, at this time, with these people. And throughout the trip I experienced moments of peace and contentment in knowing I was exactly where I was supposed to be. I felt free. And happy. For the first time in awhile.
