In celebration of Black History Month, I'll be posting (weekly), black graphic designers who have greatly influenced the field. Today's Designer of the Day is: Gail Anderson (1962- ) Gail Anderson specializes in creating theatrical advertising for Broadway productions. Her work, which has received awards from the Society of Publication Designers, the Type Directors Club, AIGA, the Art Directors Club, Graphic, Communication Arts and Print, is in the permanent collections of the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, and the Library of Congress.    .... She graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a BFA in 1984. Her career has ranged from magazine design to teaching, designing for the theater, packaging, writing, and now designing for academia. ... Anderson also designed the 2013 Emancipation Proclamation US postage stamp. ... Her philosophy for type design is that “the process has to be fun and you need to be willing to step outside your comfort zone”. Very eye-opening, what I learned thus far, about the history behind the city I've proudly repped my entire life...didnt know everything I was reppin. Sure, every city has it "skeletons," yet this gave me a little more background as to why there is still underlying division (and some would say hatred). I recognize so many of the names mentioned in this writing (from street names to landmarks), but to be honest I never took the time to dig deeper until now.
