And then you had that dream again.
The European Union already forced Apple to abandon its proprietary charging port and adopt USB-C across its entire iPhone lineup. It just did something bigger. A new EU mandate requires every smartphone sold in Europe including Apple devices to feature a battery that can be replaced by the user without specialist tools, without voiding a warranty, and without sending the device to a manufacturer approved service center. Batteries must maintain a minimum capacity threshold after a set number of charge cycles and replacement parts must remain available for up to ten years after a model goes on sale.
The consumer electronics industry built its current business model around batteries that degrade, cannot be replaced at home, and create a natural upgrade cycle every two to three years. The EU just legislated that model out of existence in the world's largest regulatory market.
Apple, Samsung, and every other manufacturer now faces a choice between redesigning their devices for the European market or accepting that their current hardware architecture is no longer legally sellable there.
Given that no company walks away from European consumers voluntarily the phones are going to change and once they change for Europe the rest of the world will ask why theirs still do not.

THE BOYS || 5.08 "Blood and Bone"
Amongst other things, one of my problems with the final fight is the lack of Homelander's psyche. I wish we would have seen more shock and fear in him after he realized all his strength and powers were gone. How terrifying that must have been for him. And then that first punch! How absolutely excruciating that must have felt.
All throughout the series Anthony did an absolute fabulous job using mimic to portray his emotions. To me, the final fight felt so rushed, so impersonal, because they did not let him act this out. I would have wanted close-ups, maybe frantic heartbeat ringing in his ears after Homelander had listened to so many heartbeats in fear of him, now he being the one afraid.
I fondly remember the scene with Hughie, Soldierboy and Butcher managing to press him to the ground. It was only a second, but you could SEE how shocked Homelander was that he couldn't push them off immediately. It was quick, it was subtle, but it was THERE. I didn't get to see something like this in the final scene. The begging was ok, but to me it wasn't dramatic enough. The most powerful man in the world had to beg for his life. I just wanted more fear, more of Homelander showing the little, scared boy he was inside.
That's why Homelander's smile in above scene is so important to me. One glimpse into his psyche. To me, that smile is a mixture of relief : "Thank Gosh, he came to stop me." Or even happiness: "Here, at the end of things, with me having nothing left to achieve, I am not alone."
Fantastic job, Anthony. Thank you for this.
Yes, Homey was a monster and had to die. Honestly, I had hoped for a more brutal and painful death. The fascination with him - as it kind of is the same with Butcher - is that we know he could have been so different. If they hadn't used him as a lab rat, if someone had showed that sweet baby boy true love and affection, if he had been taught responsibility and kindness, then he could have been the Superman of that universe. Even in his highest stage of madness he was able to show mercy to that one dude he let go in The Boys' hideout. Because even then, he just wanted to be understood.
The tragedy of his character is so heart-wrenching to me. Hurts so good.

“There aren’t enough hours in a day.” There are actually. The problem is that we think 40 hour work weeks are an unavoidable fact of life.
The problem is that everyone has to work 8 hours, pretty much no exceptions, and with getting ready time + (unpaid) lunch + commute, “8 hours” is actually anywhere between 9 and 12, every single day, with more work to do when you get home because our society and culture was built around having one member of the household home full time and nothing has changed now that almost everyone works.
No wonder Americans are reliant on DoorDash and fast food, there’s no time or energy to cook. No one wonder mental and physical health are in shambles, many just spent all day sitting in fluorescent lights with little to no stimulation. “Just wake up earlier” “Just meal prep”… these are ok short-term, individual solutions, but the broader, systemic issue is obvious. We aren’t built for this. There’s no work-life balance. Genuinely, I think if our culture could normalize a shorter work week, many individuals’ biggest problems would simply evaporate.
