In 2020 I am going to stop thinking
begone thought
Itâs called the foot-in-the-door method. First, you propose something that is slightly outside of allowable norms: denying gay people wedding cakes on grounds of âreligious freedomâ. Then, you slowly ramp up how extreme your demands are, coercing the other side to giving a tiny bit of ground each time, until youâve shifted the entire fucking playing field. Conservatives are also very fond of the door-to-face method, which is demanding something completely outlandish that you know will be refused, and then asking for something less ridiculous by way of compromise, again resulting in a gradual shift in norms until views that were once considered moderate or reasonable become unthinkably liberal by destroying peopleâs sense of standards. The combination of these methods is called the âfoot-in-the-faceâ method, which sums up where this whole thing is headed quite nicely.

on trauma:
1. âand I never knew survival was like that. If you live, you look back and beg for it again, the hazardous bliss before you knew what you would miss.â (ada limĂłn, from âbeforeâ)
2. âThe consistency of hurt is what makes it so comforting.â (william nuâutupu giles, from âwhat do you want? itâs not that simpleâ)
3. âA child weaned on poison considers harm a comfort.â (gillian flynn, from âsharp objectsâ)
4. âWhen youâve had a bad experience, you sometimes feel compelled to recreate it in a way that allows you to control it. Itâs like youâre attracted to the very thing that bothered you because youâre not done with it- you need to fix that moment so you can move forward. Oscar Wilde said, âa burnt child loves fire.â For me, that means being able to explore things that have been traumatic or youâre not so sure about. The sources of terror in childhood can become the sources of attraction in adulthood.â (todd hido, from âon landscapes, interiors, and the nudeâ)
5.
(ingmar bergman)
6. âThis body knows fear like a front porch knows welcomeâit is always coming home.â (brenna twohy, from âswallowtailâ)
7. âI liked Hell. I like to go there alone relieved to lie in the wreckage, ruined, physically undone. The worst had happened. What else could hurt me then? I thought it was the worst, thought nothing worse would come. The nothing did, and no one.â (marie howe, from âmagdalene: the addict)

Some rando: You should think about stopping your prescription
Me: My pills make me not want to die tho
They: You shouldnât want to die, thatâs not normal
Me: Yeah thatâs why Iâm taking my pills
Again: But you arenât the *real* you when youâre on your pills
Me: Iâm the alive version of me
An actual doctor, once: âRelying On A Chemical Crutch For A Hormonal Imbalance Denies The Fortitude Of The Human Soulâ
Me: Cool so like Iâm agnostic
They: âBut you might be on pills the rest of your life!â
Me: âSo?â
Good! That means that I have a ârest ofâ my life to continue living!
Thanks to the pills.
Some context on Trump assassinating Qassem Soleimani
Soleimani was Iranâs top military official and the second most powerful person in the country
People comparing this to drone strikes on people suspected of terrorism are missing this very important point. This was not a drone strike on a terrorist group. This was assassinating a high-level official from another country.
Trump had him assassinated without Congressional authorization. According to Pelosi, Congress wasnât even notified. We found out about the attack when it was announced last night on Iraqi television.
Lindsay Graham is now saying he knew about the plan 2 days ago. This means he is either lying to make it seem less like Trump did this out of nowhere, or Trump is selectively briefing members of Congress who heâs friendly with.
The official justification for this assassination was Soleimani was âactively planningâ an attack on Americans. Those of you who remember the lead up to the Iraq war may recognize this âpreemptive strikeâ language.
Whether or not Soleimani was an âenemyâ isnât important. Putin is an enemy. North Korea threatens everyone. But thereâs a reason we donât just assassinate officials from other countries, even if they demonstrably donât like us, and thatâs because it can start a war
You might notice that those other examples I used have dangerous weapons of their own. Thatâs what is material here. Trump, in his zeal for destroying Obamaâs legacy, threw out the Iran Nuclear Agreement. That agreement was a big deal because it brought Iran to the negotiating table for the first time in years. Now? Never again. But also, this is terrible for anyone who sincerely believes in the goal of global nuclear disarmament, because itâs essentially confirming that unless your country has the firepower to reasonably threaten others, there is no guarantee of safety, because the US wonât even hold to its own agreements. What incentive then is there to not build weapons of your own?
This act is just the latest bit of bizarre foreign policy decisions by the Trump administration. The Kurds helped us in the fight with Syria, and we betrayed them. Trump gives North Korea everything, including a public appearance with a US President, and they continue to threaten everyone with their missiles. Iran has an agreement with us, and we throw it away and kill their top general.
Please remember Trump is currently an impeached President, implicated in several crimes, in an election year.Â
