This year I was tentative about going to Pride because of fear that has only continued to grow since the election. I just want to acknowledge this amazing woman next to me because without her love and hand to hold I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to march around D.C. or dance alongside the parade. Let me start by saying that I marched for myself. I spent hundreds of hours marching the streets of Lexington and Roanoke to elect HRC. And we lost. So I marched to remember that this is not the end of the idea of breaking the final glass ceiling. I marched for my students and their tiny voices. Hate does not make America great. Even they will tell you that. I marched for the survivors of assault, myself included. When you put sexual assault on a spectrum of "bad" you're playing to rape culture. I marched for love. Love is love is love. And I refuse to go back. I marched for equality in pay and opportunity. I marched for respect. I marched for RBG, HRC, EAW, and Michelle. Women who inspire me and show that genitalia doesn't determine a person's worth. We are the 51% minority. Women hold the majority of existence but the minority of rights. I marched not to be a part of a divided America but to demonstrate the ideas that exist in a county that DJT now represents. We are the people he is to serve and protect, whether he likes our chants and signs or not. My voice will not be silenced even if he doesn't agree. I spent hundreds of hours working to elect Hillary Clinton because I was I truly with her. I believed in her message of stronger together. I believed in shattering the highest glass ceiling. I believed in hope that our country would vote for a woman who has dedicated her life to public service. I believed in the goodness of people who would vote to protect minorities in our country. She lost and I lost. I fear what comes next. I fear a future that will look more like the past, than like progress. I still believe in this country. I still believe in hope. But the harsh realities I've faced over the past 12 hours are heartbreaking and I'm not exactly sure what to do next. #ImWithHer
