Before the nurse could even say anything, Mika dragged Yuu out the door and closed it a little too harshly. He looked pointedly at Yuu.

Once they were a few paces away from the classroom, Mika grabbed onto Yuu’s sleeve and caused him to pause in his tracks. He swallowed thickly, waiting until their eyes met, his heart racing in his chest.

It was the first day of classes, and of course, Mikaela Shindou was standing in front of his new homeroom, surveying everyone in shades of black, white, and gray. The teacher introduced him to the class as Mika wrote his name on the board, and when he turned around, he introduced himself.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you all,” Mika said, glancing about the room, making sure to make eye contact with as many people as he could. Nope, nope, nope. None of them triggered that starburst effect he had been waiting for. A few students weren’t looking at him, instead opting to nap on their desks or stare out the window. One black-haired guy in the back yawned as he gazed out the window, and Mika’s eyes lingered on him for a moment before glancing away.

Mika could care less about superficial relationships when his second half was out there, waiting to turn his world into one filled with brilliant color. He didn’t bother looking at the other boy closely, instead focusing on pulling out his books and getting situated.

When would the day come when he would see the world in such brilliant color like everyone talked about? His fingers itched to just grab the shirt collars of everyone in the room and lock eyes with them just to find out.

At one point while Mika was taking notes, his pencil accidentally flung out of his grasp and clattered to the ground right beside the foot of the boy sitting next to him. Mika reached out to grab it but realized he was too far away, but luckily the other boy seemed to notice the pencil. He picked it up, and Mika looked up at him to thank him–

Mika’s eyes widened as soon as their gazes met. He saw a color for the first time in his life–somehow, he knew it as brilliant emerald green–and the whole world seemed to come to a stop around them.

Colors burst across his vision, turning Mika’s world upside down. The different tones and pigments seeped across every object in the room like paint spilling across a canvas, and Mika couldn’t breathe from the shock of it all. The lecture of the teacher droned on in the background, but Mika was frozen in place, amazed at what had just happened, stunned that who he had been yearning for was sitting right next to him.

He swallowed thickly and debated what to do. He couldn’t just… drag the other boy out into the hallway right now, that would be too suspicious, but he couldn’t help being anxious and eager to get to know his soulmate.

Just then, Mika had an idea. On purpose, he made a quick movement that earned him a paper cut and hissed out, “Ouch!!”

His sudden outburst caused the class to turn and look at him. Mika cradled his hand to his chest and said, “Sensei, I’m bleeding. Can I go to the nurse’s office for a bandage?”

“Ah… sure,” Mr. Ichinose said, looking worriedly at Mika. “You don’t know where that is yet, do you?” He looked to the boy sitting next to Mika. “Yuu, go with Mikaela and show him where the infirmary is.”

Mikaela almost couldn’t believe his own ears. Yuu… loved him? More than the type of love that constituted a familial bond…?

He was almost glad Yuu was huddled up against his side looking down. If they were looking into each other’s eyes in that moment, Mikaela worried his heart would burst from joy. Hearing something so sudden like that had Mikaela’s head spinning. A fantasy he always dreamed would come true… and somehow, even though the circumstances were nothing like he imagined… it happened.

Mikaela gently placed his hand over Yuu’s. “Sorry, Yuu-chan… I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. I… I couldn’t believe you were telling the truth at first because this is like a dream come true.”

Mikaela almost couldn’t believe his own ears. Yuu… loved him? More than the type of love that constituted a familial bond…?

The answer wasn’t very light-hearted. Mikaela frowned a bit as he recalled his lonely days, all the years gone by where seemingly nothing had changed.

“Not much,” Mikaela answered honestly, solemnly. “Vampires aren’t a huge fan of having fun or forming friendships. It’s lonely. I don’t have anyone to trust or talk to honestly. It’s… strange being honest with you since I’m not used to it.”

He looked down as tho he wanted to say more but he seem hesitant and embarrassed about something he wanted to say

But suddenly he felt his chest hurt, he didnt want mika to worry if taller male did, so he acted like it was nothing but look tired a bit

“Of course,” Mikaela responded softly, feeling a little flustered at the thought of Yuu being pressed up against his side. He moved his arm a little so that Yuu could rest there comfortably.

For a moment he wondered if Yuu would talk to him honestly at all. It had been a while after all, and he wouldn’t really be surprised if Yuu didn’t trust him as much anymore, even if the thought hurt him.
