the 2010s + psychological horror films
aims at creating horrific or unsettling effects through in-depth use of psychology. this may involve replacing physical threats with psychological ones (e.g. madness), thorough exploration of the mind of the involved protagonists,Ā replacing overt displays of horror by more subtle, creepy details, and so on.
#i donāt think people realize that ~THIS~ was the climax of the showĀ #not energybendingĀ #not zukoās coronationĀ #not anything else people might commonly name as the climaxĀ #the energybending stuff might have been the active climaxĀ #but this is the thematic climaxĀ #this moment when aang has to decide once and for all what kind of avatar heās going to beĀ #is a perfect mirror for zukoās climactic expression of what kind of man he has chosen to beĀ #and both of them are redirecting lightning to do itĀ #zuko to save a lifeĀ #and aang to spare a lifeĀ #and if that isnāt fucking beautiful to you on every level thenĀ #thenā¦Ā #well i wanna say get off my blog but that seems rudeĀ #aangĀ #ozai

ways your characters can show varying emotions
to show sadness (grief, sorrow):
- sharply sucking in a breath
- hiccuping from crying so hard
- uncontrollable sobbing
- slumped shoulders, head down
- weather can be used to show emotions ā not just rain, but a shining sun and birds chirping contrasts well with a grieving character
- depending on the person, sadness can result in lashing out at others for no reason or shutting everyone out
to show anger (rage, frustration)
- red face, fists clenched
- narrow eyes
- sharp comebacks, gritting teeth
- the air around them is tense
- others may be silent, ignoring whoever theyāre angry at
- inhales
- angry. tears.
- kicking, punching, slapping
to show shock (hurt, confusion)
- wide, confused eyes
- freezing in place
- collapsing to their knees
- silent and blank-faced
- ignoring everything else happening around them
to show happiness (joy, delight)
- bright eyes
- crinkles around their eyes from smiling so much
- laughter!
- optimism
- playful, laid back nature
- the weight being lifted off their shoulders
- relaxed sigh

tender moment playing minecraft song for my buddy edd
This is the first thing I see on tumblr today, blessed.
Limitations breed creativity
Avatar: Magic is limited to the four elements (and some spirit stuff). Furthermore, everyoneĀ except the Avatar is limited to at most just one element.
The magic battles are spectacular displays of creativity where each element is utilized to its full potential in a variety of ways.
Harry Potter: Magic is basically limitless, with there being a spell to do pretty much anything and any wizard can learn it, including an instant-death spell.
Which is why fighters on both sides only ever go for the best and most effective spells (Avada Kedavra for bad guys, Expelliarmus for good guys) and magic battles look like this:
I know what youāre talking about. With the most obvious example being Spiderman vs. Superman.
Spidermanās powers being basically the same for 60 years now, and writers had to come up with new ways for him to use his abilities.
While Superman (especially in the silver age) is pulling new powers out of his ass at every given opportunity.
But I think unlike Harry Potter where thereās no reason for wizards to use anything except their go-to spell, Superman does use the full array of his powers to deal with different foes.
He doesnāt instantly go for freeze breath or heat vision every single time, even though theyād probably be the most effective powers for most situations.
I recommend reading Brandon Sandersonās essay on his Second Law of Magic, in which he talks about one of his guiding principles when building magic systems: that the limitations are more interesting than the powers. He actually talks about Superman and how the limitations on his powers are what make him a good character, and talks about the Wheel of Time, which has a similar system to ATLA. Itās a long essay, but well worth the read if youāre at all interested in world building.
Hereās the link to his First Law and Third Law as well. The third law especially touches upon some of the concerns/criticisms brought up about HP and Superman.

a fools guide to not wanting to die anymore
by me, a fool who doesnt wanna die anymoreĀ
never make a suicide joke again. yes this includesĀ āi wanna dieā as a figure of speech. swear off of it. actually make an effort to change how you think about things.
find something to compliment someone for at least 4 times a day. notice the little things about the world that make you happy, and use that to make other people happy.
talk to people. initiate conversation as often as you possibly can. keep your mind busy and you wont have to worry anymore
picture the bad intrusive thoughts in youe head as an edgy 13 year old and tell them to go be emo somewhere else
if someone makes you feel bad most of the time, stop talking to them. making yourself hang out with people who drain you is self harm. stop it.

Thatās some pretty good advice. I donāt know whatās left of my humor after āguess Iāll just dieā jokes but itās worth a shot.
Personally i went from āguess Iāll dieā jokes to āIF I HAVE TO BE HERE FOR 5 MORE MINUTES I PROMISE YOU I WILL BUY JUST, AN ARRAY OF CLOTHES.ā and other wild hyperbolic stuff. Just replace the death part with something ridiculous and off topic. Its very entertaining
This also works with calling myself things like stupid, worthless, trash, etc. Even if you do this jokingly to yourself, your brain still believes it, and keeps up the cycle. Seriously, I found that when I stopped saying these things about myself, even jokingly, it made a massiveĀ difference.
Hereās a tip I picked up from a friend thatās helped me a lot ā replace self deprecating jokes with ironically self aggrandizing jokes
Like every time I trip and fall, instead of saying ālām just a disaster humanā I say āIām the epitome of grace and beautyā
Or like, when I draw a picture Iām not 100% happy with, instead of saying āmy art is trashā I say something like āyou know I think itās time we replaced the Mona Lisaā
When you do that you get to make a joke, but youāre ALSO getting practice building yourself up, yāknow?
And eventually it becomes a reflex and you get so used to it that you can say nice stuff about yourself even when you ARENāT joking
This is so important
