So many fictional magic systems today depict magic as some form of energy which is so rich 19th century weirdo spiritualism coded. Wizards have the animal magnetism or whatever.
Depicting magic as some sort of energy only makes sense if you want to explain it. Which can be fun.
However. Force, in a spiritual sense, is something different entirely than when you are talking about it in a physical sense.
How does one measure the number of ghosts in a location? Despite paranormal investigators general attempts, it cannot be done. Whether ghosts exist or not is irrelevant. If a ghost were real it wouldnāt care about your pathetic little mortal measuring devices. Itās a ghost. It has no need for physical existence.
How much magic is here? Fuck you. It doesnāt need to be measured if it doesnāt want to. If it exists at all. Why wouldnāt it exist if itās clearly affecting the world? Why does it need to explain itself to you? Itās magic. Possibly the workings of the spirits and the gods. It doesnāt need to explain itself to your pathetic little human instruments. Itās magic.

tens of thousands of years from now, when the molten core of concrete, metal, glass, and horrible tech industry culture solidifies into an unrecognizable mass, we will be able to safely mine it to reclaim the metals, which will have conveniently sorted themselves by density.
