The lack of new content for the first to third quarter of 2017 meant one thing - my full time job consumed most of my time that I can hardly insert a schedule for my blog. So to make up for my M-I-A (missing in action) and to cap off this year, I am sharing my 2017 favorites!
Enjoy.
1. Naruto and Naruto Shippuden
"If you don't like your destiny, don't accept it. Instead have the courage to change it the way you want it to be!"
I am not kidding when I say that Naruto has been my biggest motivation this year. And that’s a lot coming from someone who adores a bunch of motivational speakers and inspirational people.
Watch and you’ll understand why.
2. 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Where we stand depends on where we sit. We see the world, not as it is, but as we are conditioned to see it.
"Life Changing" — Two words that perfectly describes this book. No wonder why this is so popular and well loved.
Ever tried to search on the web "How to deal with difficult people?". (Cause I do this a lot. Hahaha!)
Usually the step by step process in dealing with difficult people includes changing or getting the root cause of the difficult person's behavior.
But the book says otherwise.
This book focuses more on you. The person reading the book, the person dealing with difficult people. Stephen covey shares the reason behind diversity, perspectives and principles.
Highly recommend this book to all leaders and aspiring leaders. The BEST book I read so far.
3. Minimalism Lifestyle
“Identify the essential. Eliminate the rest.”
I can't stress enough how impacting the minimalism lifestyle is to my life. I used to be a hoarder and I used to think that I am defined by my possessions. But minimalism taught me to focus and keep only the things that I need and spark joy in my life.
Because of minimalism:
1. I reached my emergency savings goal
2. I have better investment portfolio
3. No need to allocate a week to clean my room
4. Better focus and decision making (because i was making lesser decisions)
5. I own less, I do more
4. Being a corporate coach + Getting promoted
“I want to get more comfortable being uncomfortable. I want to get more confident being uncertain. I don’t want to shrink back just because something isn’t easy. I want to push back, make more room in the area between I can’t and I can.”
This year was a year of learning, growth and getting out of my comfort zone, I used to be the type of person who loves staying where there is less criticisms, less stress and more comfort. But this year, I promised myself that I will do 3 things:
1. Get comfortable being outside of my comfort zone
2. Challenge my limitations
3. Learn as much skills as I can
Which has greatly affected my career in a good way. From being a coach to being a co-facilitator to a facilitator and now getting promoted. The best decisions I have ever made so far.
5. Learning how to play violin and flute
One thing you need to know about me is I love and appreciate learning. So when I finally learned how to play the piano, of course I had to venture and try different instruments. Haha! So this year, I decided that I get to learn how to play violin and flute too.
Plus, my uncle and grandfather were already diagnosed with alzheimers. Which means that the risk of having it is higher. One way to prevent that from happening is to consistenly use your brain hence the more reason to always learn new things.
6. Watch a motivational or inspirational speech video everyday
I used to scroll through all my social media accounts the whole day to check the current updates of my friends and the people I look up to online. Instead of feeling inspired, I got a bit demotivated because of the mixed vibes that I am getting from different people. So instead of feeling sad, I took advantage of the internet and use it as a platform of learning and growth.
I committed into watching 1 inspirational or motivational video a day! As a result, I am more motivated than ever and I was able to show case and use what I learned from those videos in handling and managing people when I was a corporate coach and facilitator.
And also, I realized that the cheapest and the best way to know more about life is to learn it from someone who is more experienced than you.
7. You can achieve anything you are willing to work hard for.
My current favorite quote! You can do anything you put your mind to. I know its very cheesy to say that a certain quote has change your life but when you hear it at the time that you needed it, something shifts inside of you. And that’s what this quote did for me.
And that sums up my 2017 favorites! Hope you enjoyed reading. Happy holiday loves!
I am excited for 2018, I know it’s gonna be our year. ;)
