Howdy, Dear Reader!
Thanks for dropping by!
My mom said I'm an old soul and I'm a kid at heart. It seems to show up in my reading tastes--from YA and Kid lit down to the classics. Some of my favorite authors are C.S. Lewis, Flannery O'Connor and the Brontë Sisters. Anime/Manga-wise, I like Spy x Family, Frieren, Samurai 7, anything Miyazaki or Rumiko Takahashi, and others.
I'm newish to fanfiction but not to writing. I've been writing all kinds of stories since I was a kid. The common thread seems to be connection, relationships and identity. Always with a little whimsy, since I'm a kid like that. Spy Family is my current interest yet I'd love to write Narnia stories too. The Lion, Witch & The Wardrobe was the first "big kid" book I ever read, and I've adored Narnia ever since.
“A storyteller for the Mission!” is a riff on the thing Twilight always tells himself (yeah bro, it's only for the misson) and a reference to my favorite writing podcast by Zena Dell Lowe. If you think about it, storytellers are on a mission. We understand ourselves by the stories we tell. Stories remind us of who we are. Stories are how we understand the world as we know it. Storytelling is powerful.
And IF you are looking for some good writing resources, I highly recommend “The Storyteller's Mission” podcast. Zena packs solid teaching on how to write good stories and characters in clear, concise bits. While you're at it, read Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird: Instructions on Writing and Life. It's not a dry how-to but more of a reminder of how writing is a life-thing, and there will be times you don't know where you're going, and that's okay. Sh**y first drafts are okay. Just persist, thing by thing and it'll get clearer.
“ You are desperate to communicate, to edify or entertain, to preserve moments of grace or joy or transcendence, to make real or imagined events come alive. But you cannot will this to happen. It is a matter of persistence and faith and hard work. So you might as well just go ahead and get started.”
--Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird
Rather like fanfiction. Not an easy thing to do among the challenges of adulthood and life, but it's a great journey.
Peace, Dear Reader!

From time to time (as time and fancy permit) I may write original posts on SxF fandom stuff, and general thoughts on writing/story.

Fan Fictions
I'm kind of stickler about writing my SPY X FAMILY fics in the same story universe and hc timeline but they can be read in any order.
Becoming Real Series
This series follows the Forgers roughly six to seven months into Anya's first school year (hc timeline 1967-68), about March/April 1968, on the theme of the Forgers becoming more authentic with each other, while hanging onto not revealing their true identities. For Loid, I think he never forgot his true self (or name) but buried it, as he associates it with his painful past. This will figure into later stories as he seeks to be who he genuinely is above the personas he's laid on top of himself.
For Yor, her innocence and lack of experience is a hindrance and an asset. I see her becoming her genuine self as she is drawn out to connect with people, first with her family, then others, as she gains the confidence to be more authentically who she is.
Anya is learning to simply be a kid as she experiences normal kid and family stuff as an extraordinary kid in an altogether unregular, yet real family.
What I Want to Know (Sping 1968) 5,592 words
One-shot. Set just after ch 119, around ch 120 & 122. There's things Yor wants to know about Loid feeling for her, things Loid wants to know about Yor (and is afraid to know about himself) and things Anya wants to know about her past, like how does Grandpa Siggy know her and her birth Mama?
Because It's Real (Spring 1968) 3,183 words
One-shot. My first SxF fanfic! In which, Twilight has a nightmare about the loss of his family, seeks Yor's comfort, and confronts his growing feelings for Yor and his actual feelings for his "faux" family. Pleasantly surprised how well this dovetails with the events of the TV Hijacking arc, even if this was written 2023.
Series: Becoming Real-The Honeymoon Days
A two-part TwiYor series about the early days of when Yor and Loid decide to make their marriage real, 1 1/2 years into Operation STRIX. They're comfortable enough to finally be honest…yet nowhere ready to reveal their secret identities. The desire to be known, remains.
Yor's story: "Somewhere I Have Never Travelled" (Spring 1969) 7,517 The fluffier and shorter story of the two (just like Yor!). Yor is nervous about her upcoming honeymoon, days away. Good wives, even newlyweds, know how to please their husbands, right? What if she messes up? No. She'll be a good wife. There's this book the gals at work have…turns out Loid is nervous, too. Oh, and Fiona has found an interesting way to reveal her true feelings to Loid…
Loid's story: "Role of a Husband x Father" (Spring 1969) 57,680 wds Was definitely not expecting this to be my longest fic yet. Like Loid, it has its serious and sweet moments, and it was satisfying indeed to explore his psyche here. On the eve of his honeymoon, Loid/Twilight finds himself at a crossroads, as honesty shines its light upon him. Now his family is real, and he wants to stay. He wonders, what would it be like to hear his true name said aloud by Yor and Anya? Complex emotions stir, putting his new belief to the test, "Love is worth the risk, no matter the cost." Will the risk of sharing his true name strengthen the Forgers? Or tear them apart?
Collected Miscellany: Stories, Ficlets and Poems (in no particular order)
Knit Together: A Spy x Family Christmas Story (Dec 1967) 18, 394 wds)
Professor Henderson wants Anya's class to knit something over Christmas Break? On her first Forger family Christmas! And it's all going to be ruined by dumb knitting…or will it? Let the holiday family fluff-fest ensue! (This is a favorite. Yes I do HC all the Forgers can knit.)
Psst--They're Going to Get Married (September 1967) 2500 words
Now they've agreed to help each other, maybe Yor, Anya, and Twilight should get to know each other a bit? Twilight notices how pretty Yor's pink cheeks are. Anya's sure Papa has found the Mama, even if Papa (and Mama) don't know it yet. TwiYor Fluff Weekend 2024 submission - "Blushing"
Yor Has a Beautiful Back (1968) 886 words
Flash fiction/ficlet. My answer to the question, "How did Twlight know how many moles Karen had?" And he loves Yor's back.
"That slice of creamy skin contrasted with the deep red of her sweater dress, tethers him to what is true. Loid traces that triangular gap with his eyes, following the dip of and hollow of her spine down to where the dress comes to a gentle point. Sometimes, he blushes with his scrutiny…he steals glances at the smoothness of her skin, surprised by the fine lines etched there. Healed scars? No moles."
To Find A Dancing Partner (Various, 1967-69) 1473 words
A story in poem form, building from vignettes of Yor and dancing.. The Briar Family loves to dance. For fun. For joy. Just because. It seems, all her life, Yor has been looking for a dancing partner…maybe she has found her best partners in Loid and Anya.
Operation Hot Breakfast (Spring 1968) 2462 words
Yor is inspired to make Loid a hot breakfast, but Anya knows Mama's going to need all the help she can get. Originally I thought this happened the day after "Because It's Real" but it could happen later. Super-cute family fluff.
Can't a Lady Read? (Spring 1968) 1430 words
Fluff and Crack. At Berlint General Hospital, Fiona Frost is trying to find consolation in a good book. Alas, Twilight's married Yor Briar for real and she is the true Forger wife, yet she's kindly lent Fiona some books. Could Loid Forger please get off her case so she can finish her book? I think she enjoys gothic romance. Especially if it means Twilight gives her books.
Kindred Spirits (Mid 1950s/1968) 13,500 words, in progress
Still exploring where I'm going with this. It started as a character study on Twilight's solider days as Roland Spoofy, but became an exploration about how Loid said "It's wonderful!" when Camilla tried to imply Yor did unseemly work. "Wonderful" for she endured a hard job for the sake of supporting her brother. What if, as a soldier, he'd met young women who were exactly in that same position? Also not sure to call this original fic disguised as fanfic (or vice versa) since it's a fic starring Loid in an otherwise original story set in Westalis.
