CHARITHRA CHANDRAN AS SANSA STARK
" life is not a song, sweetling. you may learn that one day to your sorrow. "
so frustrating to be a skeptic with a sense of whimsy because like. I want there to be cryptids. I want there to be magic. I want there to be evidence of something we don't fully understand and can't explain. but then 99% of the "proof" out there for that stuff is like. the most obvious scam you've ever seen in your life.
a very common thing i see posited is the idea that historically, fathers could not both love their daughters and see them as their personal property to dispose of as they saw fit, and i think it comes from this difficulty people have in understanding that a parent can be affectionate and loving in many ways, but also put their own desires before that of their child/have misogynistic views about women's roles in society.
i also think it's very common for modern day commentators to overlook the fact that many men who genuinely loved their wives also pressured their wives to keep having children until they died or were physically disabled by it.

Happy 20th anniversary to They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard specifically
Sansa and her mama
Loras during the Kingsguard meeting thinks that Sansa had a grudge against Margaery presumably for taking her place as Joffrey betrothed. Is he just naive, because Loras doesnât strike me as a Arys Oakheart level idiot?
Here's the quote for context:
"No," the Knight of Flowers said, unamused. "Sansa Stark was the poisoner. You all forget, my sister was drinking from that chalice as well. Sansa Stark was the only person in the hall who had reason to want Margaery dead, as well as the king. By poisoning the wedding cup, she could hope to kill both of them. And why did she run afterward, unless she was guilty?" Jaime VIII, ASoS
Loras makes valid points about what it looks like - Sansa lost an opportunity to be queen and then fled after the crime. Over in the Vale, Littlefinger is not exactly rushing around to clear Sansa's name. A big part of why he isn't is because it's a useful part of his ongoing plan to make Sansa appear (and feel) complicit in his various murder plots.
If you don't have the personal information behind all this, then yeah, this might look okay on paper. Loras is also accounting for why Sansa might want to kill Joffrey, after all. Joffrey for revenge, Margaery out of jealousy. It's not so out there. The only Queen of Westeros Loras has ever known, Cersei, might do the same.
But as for why Loras misjudges this matter... I would say that Loras is a highly privileged seventeen-year-old who spends just about all his time with highly privileged men. He knows the sort of power and luxury that's at stake, but he was not around to witness the height of Joffrey's public abuse of Sansa. He's not a part of private conversations between women about domestic violence and its effects (which you know are going on behind closed doors). He wasn't brought in on the assassination plan - he was, in fact, one of the main reasons the assassination plan was carried out as it was.
And he doesn't know Sansa herself.
Loras killed three of his fellow members of the Rainbow Guard when he discovered his boyfriend had been murdered. Loras knows irrational wrath. What he's struggling to imagine is a reaction like this:
How can I let my sister marry Joffrey? she thought, and suddenly her eyes were full of tears. "Margaery, please," she said, "you mustn't." It was hard to get the words out. "You mustn't marry him. He's not like he seems, he's not. He'll hurt you." Sansa II, ASoS
He doesn't have the empathy to imagine Sansa's own empathy. When his own sister's safety was apparently at stake, it's a tall order to ask him to imagine it, too. There's reasons no Tyrell should have been anywhere near the investigation of Joffrey's murder - even if they hadn't carried it out.

The singer had remained discreetly in the rear of the hall, but at Lady Arryn's shout he came at once. "My lady?" "Play us a song. Play 'The False and the Fair.'" Marillion's fingers brushed the strings. "The lord he came a-riding upon a rainy day, hey-nonny, hey-nonny, hey-nonny-hey . . ." -ASOS, Sansa VII
tw://SA
Marillion works so well as a character just because he is a good encapsulation of the Vale for Sansa. He is a handsome and charming singer, someone a younger Sansa would have liked, but the first night he meets her he tries to r*pe her. It's also mentioned that he has SAed some of the maids at the Eyrie "To hear the servants talk, Sansa was not the first maid to suffer his advances, and the others had not had Lothor Brune to defend them."
In this scene, he sings a song to drown out her cries in complicity with Lysa Arryn's attempt to murder Sansa. He does not so much as speak up on her behalf. Marillion is nothing more than fluff covering up a hollow man.
In other words, beneath the pretty, chivalric imagery lies the ugly fact that in the Vale she is in the same situation as she was in King's Landing. It's made clear from the start that Sansa isn't actually safe in the Vale either. The Eyrie is a beautiful castle with a beautiful view compared to the Red Keep and the stinks of King's Landing, but she is effectively still a prisoner.
Littlefinger poses as her rescuer and protecive father figure when he's the same guardian who does not really care at all for what she wants and SAs her like Joffrey did, knowing he can get away with it. Of course, Littlefinger uses soft power rather than hard compared to the Lannisters with Sansa having nowhere else to go and being a wanted fugitive thanks to his actions.
She's still being married off without her consent with her hand and inheritance being used as a political chip.
The game of thrones goes on in the Vale as in King's Landing complete with murder, infanticide and poison.

joining the war on kids reading any book they want on the side of kids reading any book they want. simply you will be fine. it's even good to be confronted with things you don't understand and even find upsetting, uncomfortable and difficult. it's a surprise tool that will help you later.

literally ok so not a funny story but kind of funny? when I was nine I encountered rape in a book and I was like hey mom whatâs this mean and she explained it and I was like oh. gross. and then like two weeks later a girl on the bus abruptly disclosed her csa and we were all like ????? what ???? but I was like wait hang on thereâs a word for that âď¸đ¤Â and explained what it meant and that it was illegal and that you could talk to a teacher or my mom if it had happened to you and everyone was like ohhhhh I see I see and very somberly comforted the girl (she was safe she was removed from her home and living with my neighbor at the time so it wasnât Urgent)
And this is a perfect illustration of why it is important for kids to read or variety of things, and why abusers donât want them to.
Hiding knowledge from kids will not benefit them but only render them helpless when faced with the unknown
