I do think that once all is said and done Arya would love the "Sansa killed Joffrey with a spell and turned into a wolf with bat wings" story. Sansa does not love it but it's too late. Arya has already commissioned a song about it. she is learning to embroider well so that she can sew a picture of that and give it to Sansa and Sansa will have to display it somewhere. in 500 years some scholar is going to write a thesis on the use of bat-winged-wolf imagery in the reign of Sansa I.

“Father told me once that it is the price we pay.”
“What does that mean?”
Anne tried haltingly to explain.
“We shall never go hungry, you and I; we have our secret box of sweetmeats and we wear silk and velvet and have horses and hawks and a palace to live in.”
Isabeau said nothing. She had knelt slowly on the wolfskin hearthrug, head bowed, and Anne sank back into her chair. She made herself go on. “But do you think we are owed that for nothing? No. We pay for it with our lives and our fates and our flesh, which must serve the realm. I cannot serve the realm and stay. Believe me, dearest, if there was another way, I would take it.”
Katherine Arden’s The Unicorn Hunters does a lot with arranged marriages; the ways that Anne’s body and lands are tied together, and her finding a way to keep both under her own control. One thing (of many) that I loved in the book is that she was raised with the cultural expectation of having to marry for political reasons.
That might not seem like much, but I’ve read multiple fantasy books where the heroine, despite being raised in a culture where arranged marriages are the norm, doesn’t seem to have received this kind of parental indoctrination into the expectations of her role. I think some authors are trying so hard to make their characters completely relatable to modern audiences that they forget they are writing someone who would have been raised differently. Even for someone who isn’t happy with their potential marriage, she’ll have been raised to believe it’s a normal and expected part of life for women like them.

" life is not a song, sweetling. you may learn that one day to your sorrow. "
so frustrating to be a skeptic with a sense of whimsy because like. I want there to be cryptids. I want there to be magic. I want there to be evidence of something we don't fully understand and can't explain. but then 99% of the "proof" out there for that stuff is like. the most obvious scam you've ever seen in your life.
a very common thing i see posited is the idea that historically, fathers could not both love their daughters and see them as their personal property to dispose of as they saw fit, and i think it comes from this difficulty people have in understanding that a parent can be affectionate and loving in many ways, but also put their own desires before that of their child/have misogynistic views about women's roles in society.
i also think it's very common for modern day commentators to overlook the fact that many men who genuinely loved their wives also pressured their wives to keep having children until they died or were physically disabled by it.
