A Chronology of the Marquis de Sade
I found the whole chronology of the marquis de sadeâs life in an online pdf of the book âcrimes of loveâ
It goes from his birth thru his death until events it happened after he died until i think the newest things they could say about him when this book was put together.
I will use this for so many things trust i want to learn it all

i started binge-watching soap again and it's a sickness
sketch with the Marquis de Sade
Please for the character asks, I need you to talk about Sade more
YAY Sade yapping. I also need to read about him more but currently im stuck in Bastille archives hell (i mean im sure Sade's in there too but at a later date)
Favourite thing about them: Fuck what is my favourite thing about him I don't know. Can I say Justine? It's very rare for me to get so emotionally invested in a character but Justine is honestly incredibly well-written; I knew how the book ended beforehand and obviously I know a Sade book's gonna be a list of terrible things happening, but I felt Justine's hope every time she went somewhere new so strongly that I kept almost really convincing myself the next place was where everything would work out and the disaster would be over.
Least favourite thing about them: well. you know. probably the child abuse.
Favourite line: I don't know the quote off the top of my head (and also I'm sure the original was needlessly long and horribly worded), but the idea was that, everything deriving from and being a part of nature, anything which exists or can be done is automatically natural; "unnatural" doesn't exist.
brOTP: idk, 'Sade' and 'friends' don't really go well together
OTP: okay I'm maybe insane for this BUT there's a fic of Sade x Frederick William I on ao3 and tbh... yeah it's a crackship obviously but I'm not gonna genuinely ship Sade with someone. Also he def had a thing for the Prussian soldiers lol. I do want to learn more about his and Latour's relationship.
nOTP: Sade x Villette. Yeah there's ..basis for it, and maybe I'm reading the vibes wrong here, but alongside his libertinism and general batshitness, Villette also had very strong morals when it mattered that he refused to back down from, so I don't think he could have ever had any genuine friendliness towards Sade, outside the dictates of them being related
unpopular opinion: People give him too much credit, positive or negative. He's not the Divine Marquis and he's not the devil; he's a philosopher who was a shitty guy THATS NOT UNCOMMON. Nothing he did was new or unique besides that he wrote it down, which isn't to take away from the value of his writings of course. He wasn't uniquely evil. He wasn't uniquely a visionary either; he was more status quo than even some of the more moderate revolutionaries. He's Just Some Guy. and he can be interesting as just some guy! but you have to start with that understanding
song i associate with them: Turn The Lights Off by Tally Hall
and also 2econd 2ight 2eer by Will Wood
favorite picture of them: obviously the Van Loo drawing. and i'm still not over how similar it looks to Rudolph Valentino in Monsieur Beaucaire:
like. come on how is that not the same guy.
Funny that Clairwil being married to her brother was the least toxic/dangerous marriage option... for him. If she had married any other man he'd be dead in a year max. But she had an interesting chemistry with Brigatesta and they spent most of their time separated anyways. Plus he was probably well aware that if he tried clipping 1% of Clairwil's freedom she would kill him.

Miscellaneous "fun" facts about the book Juliette
- Durand is a middle aged proto-yandere witch
- There is 1 unbirthing scene
- Juliette fucks the pope
- Justine's story is retconned (the ending). Juliette's personality is nearly completely different from the Justine book.
- Sade describes what poop tastes like ?
- The book is about Juliette telling Justine the story of her life after they separated. At some point, she narrates Clairwil's brother's narration about his own adventures, thus creating a story-within-story-within-story inception
- "Buggerblast me!"
- After being abused in a Siberian prison, Clairwil's brother got addicted to being whipped. He would have physical withdrawal symptoms. He also fucked Catherine the Great and her son.
- The characters are either atheist or christian, except for Noirceuil who has a weird personal esoteric belief system. He believes in a single god who's evil and wants humans to be evil. Everybody suffers in the afterlife, but the more evil someone is on Earth, the less they suffer. Not because the god is granting them some relief, but because of some metaphysical rules.
- Clairwil's brother also met the Swedish "illuminati" (a group of senators planning to usurp the throne that considered themselves to be part of the Order of Templars)
This is your fault for haunting my subconscious last night (though in the least disturbing way that has ever happened to me)
