Nana fandom being so uninterested in yuri ships honestly makes me so sad... Even nanahachi is treated like a joke here, or just as "matching cute aesthetics" rather than the central dynamic of the story. Every time a fan talks about them having serious romantic potential, someone appears out of thin air and starts begrudgingly lecturing them about how it would actually be inappropriate and horrible because such an unthinkable level of toxicity SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED.
This is coming from the same fandom that has absolutely no problem with Nana and Ren! But since there's a male character involved, the toxicity isn't gross, it's sexy and cool.
"If it's het, it's automatically infinitely better." That's honestly how I would describe all of this. Because what other reason could there be for people to seriously think that the love of Hachi's life is a man she dated for like a week? A man she didn't even get back together with during the time skip, even though we know her relationship with Takumi was disastrous and they don't even live together anymore?
But of course, IT MUST BE A MAN!!!! And not the woman Hachi still thinks about despite not seeing her in years, the woman she longs for and waits for, and the woman about whom she explicitly said that if she had the chance to start her life over, "Nana would be the only one I wouldn't erase."
And it's also sad that, besides nanahachi, there isn't a single other wlw ship that people care about. Those ships just don't exist in this fandom. But it's not like there aren't any interesting dynamics between women. Asami and Miu, Hachi and Miu, Nana and Misato, Junko and Hachi, even Nana and Asami. But noooope, it's all het, het, het.
