Even better, the comments to this Twitter post were an absolute FIRESTORM of mostly dudes explaining to her that dials canāt only have 2 positions (not true) and that it wasnāt a very good piece (not true) that she was being disrespectful to her teacher (donāt care) and that it was a sign of her stupidity/rabid feminism/intellectual laziness/misandry/etc. that she couldnāt see any āmiddle ground.ā It became, in its way, a performance piece. I was absolutely mesmerised, even as I wished I could cock-punch people through the internet.
Personally I hope that knob goes to 11 and stays there.

Even if it doesnāt have only 2 positions, the point stands that getting less of/farther away from āraging feministā requires getting more of/closer to ācomplicit in my own dehumanization.ā You should always be at 0% having to be complicit in your own dehumanization.
The most interesting part about all of this to me is that this art is doing its job. It wants people to react. It wants people to challenge it. People reacting as negatively as they have means this art is good at itās job.
And so many people are fundamentally unwilling to understand that theyāre reacting the exact way the artist intended them to?
And when you point out that their discomfort is intentional, they get very angry.
Because to them art is supposed to be easy to understand and endlessly consumable and anything that deviates from their sensibilities and morals is inherently ābadā. So a lot of them fundamentally cannot understand art that is supposed to be challenging and aggressive.
To them itās not āreal artā because they canāt easily parse a easily palatable meaning from it. Itās not āgood artā because itās too political.
Also bad faith actors intentionally taking the symbolism too literally to try to make the artist seem stupid is a tactic that has been done since at least the Nazi Degenerate Art Shows.
By refusing to engage with a piece at its own level and stripping it of what metaphor and symbolism it has, they are intentionally trying to infantilize the artist and make her art seem irrelevant and deluded in comparison. This is not a new tactic. These ācriticsā are not stupid, either they know exactly what theyāre doing
All this to say that fascism and bigotry hates creativity and art and unabashed, unapologetic self-expression. It hates when those that it punches down on and stands on refuse to shut up.
And if a piece of political art gets a reaction like this? That means that it has done its job very well.

It showed a lot of people that really premature babies could survive with the right treatment and eventually was adopted by hospitals.
The green revolution in agriculture that prevented around a billion people from starving to death
More recently itās been widespread access to mosquito nets and medication to poorer and rural areas

Fun little math trick I find really helpful: the ratio of a mile to a kilometer is within 1% of the Golden Ratio. That means that if you have a good memory for Fibonacci numbers (1 2 3 5 8 13 21 34 55 89) you can convert pretty accurately by taking consecutive Fibonacci numbers.
For example, 89 kilometers is really close to 55 miles (55.3). Or, say you need to convert 26 miles to kilometers: 26 can be written as 21 plus 5, so taking the next Fibonacci number up gives 34 and 8, meaning it should be around 42 kilometers. Sure enough, it's 41.8 km!

They use the second amendment as a reason to openly brandish guns for no reason other than "because I can". Think of all those times when people carried assault rifles on their routine shopping trips.
Then, when someone actually uses the second amendment for its intended purpose, to fight back against a tyrannical government, those same people complain.
The reason for them carrying was never "because I can". That was the dog whistle. The reason was to maintain their ideal social hierarchy by threat of force. It's one of the same reasons they targeted the Black Panther Party for carrying guns at protests.
They don't want everyone to be armed. They want to make sure they are able to stay armed. There's a big fucking difference between the two

I'm not going to tell you to do that or not to do that. For starters, I don't think I'm going to be able to stop you. Also, I don't know what kind of situation you're in, and situations that people get into stopped being predictable when random street violence picked up in 2017, and they've only gotten less predictable since.
I will tell you about the consequences and what's going to happen should you make this decision.
What you've got to understand is, if you buy a gun your lifestyle will change. You will have to accept this.
You will be personally responsible for a lethal object that can end another person's life, accidentally, really easily. If it is stolen or leaves your control when you are carrying it, when it's in a bag you leave somewhere, when you are even at the range with it, you are legally responsible if it is discharged negligently, and also, more importantly, ethically responsible for the damage that occurs with it. This is not a decision you should make casually, or for style reasons.

The goal is to get as many people calling their Senators as possible, as fast as possible. Ideally, ahead of the vote Friday. But, even after that, we need people making noise about what's going on here.

ICE threw a gas canister into a minivan with 6 children inside who were on the way home from soccer. A 6 month old infant was hospitalized for days as a result.

Multiple children were kidnapped right off their school bus, including a 5 year old boy who was kidnapped right in front of family after being used as bait. He is a legal asylum seeker and pretty obviously not a violent criminal. He has since vanished across state lines

This is not fringe. This is because everybody here has stories of seeing ICE try to beat and abduct people. In the city, in our small towns, and in our suburbs.

An analysis requires you to draw conclusions about the media such as authorial intent, real-world parallels, discussion about themes/worldbuilding/character motivation, and so much more.
