　without  missing  a  beat,  “  beanboozled,  obviously.  ”  sarcastic  lilt  laced  her  tone  as  she  pried  the  box  from  the  shelf and gave it a shake  –  watched  as  the  little  plastic  arrow  wobbled  against  the  cardboard begging for a spin.  “  man,  whoever  invented  this  shit’s  gotta  be some  sadistic willy wonka wannabe. booger  or  juicy  pear  ?  strawberry  banana  smoothie  or  dead  fish  ?  ”  she  looked  like  a  fish  herself,  sour  gummy  worm  hanging  from  the  corner  of  her  mouth  like  fresh  bait.  casually  gnawed at  it  before  she  pulled  it  taunt  and  let  it  snap  in  half.  “  i  say  you try  somethin’  new.  then  get  somethin’  you actually  like  in  the  event  where  the other thing  sucks.  ”

　could’ve  recognized  the  back  of  that  head  anywhere.  how  long  had  it  been  since  she  decided  to  terrorize  the  novelist  ?  a  day  ?  two  ?  more  like  two  too  many  in  sunday’s  eyes.  index  finger  curled  into  her  thumb,  seconds  away  from  granting  a  flick  of  a  greeting  to  his  ear  before  the  sudden  shift.  yet  when  she  was  met  with  his  pleasant mug,  she  didn’t  scramble,  didn’t  try  to  hide  her  juvenile  antics.  instead,  she  followed  through,  chipped  nail  snapping  against  the  square  of  his  forehead.  bonk. so much for his 'good one'. “  well  only if  you  insist,  billygoat.  ”  nickname  drawled  through  an  upturned  lip  as  she  dragged  a  stride  to  stand  beside  him.  welcomed  herself  into  his  space without an invitation. typical.  “  you  headed  to  a  meeting  at  waystar  royco or somethin'  ?  ”  playful jab  thrown  at  the  obvious  display  of  business —  briefcase  white-knuckled  in  his  grasp.  her  own  grasp  lifted  to  mime  the  tightening  of  an  invisible  tie  around  his  neck.  “  lookin'  verrrrry  profesh.  ”
