Challenge #160
Describe a movie that either kicks off with a train robbery (inciting incident) or ends with a train robbery (climax). Any genre will do. It doesn't have to be old west/fantasy like the image might imply.
8 The Hard Way
In December of 1924, German Nazi’s were about to begin their counterattack on allied forces who had pushed their way into Germany. However, spies behind German lines informed the Allies that a massive train was being positioned to deliver a tide turning amount of troops and supplies to the front line. The attack would later be known as the Battle of The Bulge, a siege that nearly broke the Ally lines and changed the course of the war. However it was because of one group of 8 Army Rangers who were dropped deep into Switzerland where they were tasked with stopping the train that would allow the Germans to punch through the lines. The train over a mile and a half long was heavily defended, troops, and a newly developed German Supergun that could shoot bombs through the air removing the need for bombing runs. The route was top secret, and the train itself carried train tracks that could span miles. Destroying tracks would only slow the train down. The Rangers dropped behind enemy lines have to track the train and find a way to stop it. At the climax they pull off their heist by posing as SS soldiers who stop the train for “Hitler to wish the troops well.” They then infiltrate it and set off timed bombs all over the artillery storage, obliterating the train, and ultimately preventing the Germans from resupplying and stalling their counter attack just enough for the Allies to turn the momentum against them.
