Over the years I think I've posted like a thousand gifsets, and I've definitely read tens of thousands of tags on them. There's one pattern I see more often than you'd think, and I wish people would unpack a bit why they do it and what they mean by it. Specifically they see a guy acting or appearing in a way that they clock (consciously or subconsciously) as not sufficiently masculine, failing to meet the criteria of what it means to be a real man. If he's too pretty or too cute, too nice, or looks at other men with too much affection. If he just seems a bit too gay. People decide (consciously or subconsciously) that his defective masculinity implies femininity. Sometimes it'll be explicit, calling him some variety of girl (babygirl, girlypop), and sometimes not. The next step is always to call him a bottom, since women are the category of people who are penetrated and he clearly (via appearance or mannerism) wants to be penetrated. It's a very heteronormative worldview, you know? Effeminate guys are not the same thing as bottoms. Effeminate guys can top. The most masculine guy you can think of might enjoy penetration. I wish people would free themselves from the chains of heteronormative assumptions and detach the concept of penetration from personality and gender. Bears can bottom and twinks can top. Subs can top and doms can bottom. It's totally fine if you think it's hot to imagine him bottoming, that's awesome and go for it, but... I just wish people would stop calling my blorbo a bottom every time he looks too cute.
