Prompt: Envy – featuring Original!Caroline cuz there isn’t enough of that around.
Caroline walked into the dinky New Orleans bar, unimpressed by the decor that this century provided as It took away from the elegant feel it’d had back when she and Niklaus had first opened it.
She sat at on an empty table, leaning back with her legs crossed and looking around the place, waiting to spot the person that she’d heard held Niklaus’s interest in this very bar.
She searched around; 23 present in total, 16 humans, no witches (her lucky day), and 7 vampires – all of which didn’t wear a daylight ring, didn’t seem to know a thing about the man who ruled them, and who would certainly never catch Niklaus’s attention.
And that’s when Caroline spotted her.
The blonde human girl serving behind the bar, and if she squinted enough, well Caroline could’ve sworn the girl passed for her twin. And that’s how she knew… that bartender girl was who she was looking for.
Oh, this would certainly be fun.
She walked confidently towards the girl and once in front of her read the name tag on her shirt: Camille O’Connell.
“May I get a shot of tequila, Camille?” Caroline asked politely.
The girl looked at her strangely “I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that you’re a vampire,” Camille side-eyed her. “And please call me Cami, Camille is a grandma’s name.”
“That we can agree with,” Caroline muttered, not liking the look Camille had given her, but ignoring it either way. “So, tell me, Camille, where can I find Klaus Mikaelson,” she compelled as a test.
To her surprise, Camille’s eyes didn’t dilate, “If you want to know something all you have to do is ask, compulsion isn’t necessary.”
“Very well, where is he?” she smirked tauntingly.
“I can’t tell you that, the guy has inner circles and inner circles within his inner circles. You see that guy with the brown vest?” Camille pointed towards someone behind them. “His name is Max, he’ll get you in with someone who might get you in with someone else who might have an in with Klaus. And if you’re lucky, Klaus will agree to see you.”
“Tell me, Camille, do you know Klaus?”
The girl’s face faltered at the sound of her full name coming from Caroline’s lips in such a venomous way, but then answered proudly, “Yes, I do.”
“And what makes you so sure that if you – a mere human – can get an audience with him, I – an actual vampire – can’t?”
“I’m part of his inner-inner circle,” she explained uncomfortably, “I am also a therapist, his therapist, so he trusts me,” she said confidently, a twinkle in her eyes that Caroline didn’t appreciate.
“And what has he told you? If I may be so bold to ask.”
“I believe strongly in patient confidentiality,” Cami deflected.
Caroline looked the girl straight in the eyes, and intensity in her gaze that served as a tick she had picked up centuries ago to extract information from people on vervain.“Oh, come now, Camille. Just between us girls, you can trust me. Gods know I would never really be able to tell anyone,” Caroline pledged.
She saw Cami recoil slightly and considers before spitting out, “I can’t!” louder than she intended.
This girl was certainly getting antsy.
Caroline backed off slightly, “Well, would you say you know him better than anyone? Would you say you knew his deepest and darkest secrets?” a mocking tone with hidden hostility present in her tone.
“Yes I would,” Camille muttered, and she was sure it was meant to be impatient, but it seemed to come out as uncomfortable.
Good.
Caroline extended her hand towards Camille “Well then, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Caroline Forbes,” she said, smiling sweetly at the human girl. Once Camille took her hand, Caroline’s grip tightened, “Though I’m sure Niklaus referred to me as Caroline Mikaelson, his wife of 1000 years,” a look of recognition reflected on Camille’s gaze, and suddenly the smile Caroline had turned deadly. “Now tell me, Camille let’s talk about my husband. But first… let me get rid of the rest of our audience.”
23 present total, 16 humans, no witches (seriously her lucky day), and 7 vampires.
