Someone just threw away this perfectly good mirror...? It definitely needs some tlc, but the mirror itself is absolutely fine, the metal (!) frame will have to be repainted and I'll probably need to straighten some of those decorations, but it's such a great find, decades old and rescued!

I think I'm turning into an American stereotype more and more each day and that's quite unusual for someone who's never been there. I've been driving my mom to and from work everyday for over a month now, doing 30 km per day, there are at least three McDonald's paper bags somewhere in my car (egg McMuffins are my guilty pleasure...), we got KFC yesterday and my standard outfit in the morning is a hoodie, leggings and hair in a bun. If this isn't the most stereotypically American thing then I don't know what is.
People are dying, businesses are closing, my car battery died.
Buy a new car, the warranty will deal with any problems! Get a Toyota, it doesn’t break at all! Get a hybrid, they have fewer parts that can break! Yeah, no. My Toyota Yaris hybrid is three years and three months old and the warranty is for three years, good timing. The weather is great, so it’s not like it stood in sub-zero temperatures for months without moving, I last used it 10 days ago and it was just fine, plus this whole winter was a joke without snow and around 5°C all the time. I packed my tires to go and change them yesterday at 13:00 and at 14:30 I opened the door, got in, heard a buzzing sound like a bee somewhere inside, pressed start and the whole thing just died. Fuck, that’s exactly what I need right now, I have to drive my mom to and from work after Easter and this piece of crap is now just a heavy metal box. FANTASTIC.
Dad asked his friend to help me, he was supposed to come here today and look at it, but didn’t, didn’t call or anything. Dad said I need to buy a new battery and can come on saturday to take me to the store (plus you need to bring the old one and I don’t know how to remove it). Mom, who bought the car, asked her friend about this and he told her to just jump-start the car, go for a longer ride and it should be fine, so now she doesn’t want to get a new battery and doesn’t want to get jumper cables either. Dad doesn’t have them. I don’t have them. Dad’s friend has them, but ignored me today. Dad said he can’t help me anymore, if mom doesn’t want the battery or the cables. Mom doesn’t know how a car works. I’m crying right now and have no idea what to do.
Oh god, it turned out well (the battery of course, not the virus).
The guy who was supposed to help me yesterday was really sorry, he was busy at work and couldn’t come. However he was free today, so at 9 my car was resurrected, I thanked him a lot and went on a short ride to test it. Then I called to get my tires changed and was able to just go there right then, so I did.
It took two hours to change my tires and check the battery, while I watched other clients’ behaviour like it’s Animal Planet. Turns out I’m not the only one, two people came with the same problem, with everyone staying home we just don’t have anywhere to go and you can’t just go for a ride (500 PLN fine for being outside without a reason). The battery is just fine, I won’t need a new one for at least two years, they said, and I didn’t even have to pay for the test! So nice of them.
Fuel is cheap as hell, 95 is 3,45 PLN/l and I can barely remember the last time it was this cheap, I must have been a child. My tank is tiny and it was still half full, but I managed to squeeze 16 liters after spending way too much time in line at the station and again, it was part Animal Planet and part war documentary, no casualties at least.
Bad news, my mom goes back to work after Easter and right now she got a text that three of her coworkers have the coronavirus.

You have no idea how much I’d love to be able to donate blood, especially now, when the supply is so small due to the coronavirus and everything around it. But alas, I faint just thinking about blood. I once fainted at school the day we were supposed to get a shot for something, I fell on the floor and cut my chin. I had to get the shot anyway, then a shot for tetanus and two stitches. Last time I had to give blood for testing my blood pressure got so low the doctor and was surprised I was still concious.
I’m stuck with my mom in our small apartment for at least two more weeks and it feels like a torture, honestly. She’s absolutely terrified of the virus since she’s over 60 and has some health problems and keeps the tv on for 16 hours a day watching news ALL THE TIME. But at the same time won’t let me go grocery shopping alone (need to stock up for the next two weeks!) and wants to go to the market with terribly stupid people instead of going to a supermarket with very strict hygiene rules. Yeah.
I had to go pick up an online order yesterday and decided to go late, around 9 pm (the shopping center works 10 am to 10 pm) and it looked like we’re in the middle of an apocalypse — all the zaras and h&ms and nikes were closed, only carrefour and rossmann open, more staff than customers, the lights were dimmed and you could hear your own heartbeat (not really, but almost). That’s the most popular shopping center in the city! I had to get some food, so I didn’t get a cart, used the app that scans the items and you can put them in your bag, then used self checkout and paid with card, no human contact, maybe like 5 other customers around. Strange, surreal and something I’ll never forget.
Since masks are absolutely impossible to buy now (and people are donating as little as 5 or 10 of their own masks to hospitals) I decided to sew myself a reusable one. It doesn’t completely protect from the virus, but at least I won’t touch my face as much and it’s better than nothing. There are facebook groups for those who want to sew and, again, donate them to hospitals in need, so if doctors and nurses use them, then I guess they do something…? The problem — I don’t have a sewing machine. Or rather, I have a really old one my grandma owned, but I can’t use it and I don’t even have a proper table that will support the weight of it. Handsewing one mask takes TWO HOURS. I had to use this little plastic and wire thing that closes bags with bread, since I don’t have any wire for the nose part of the mask and my fingers are sore since I don’t have a thimble small enough for me. But now I have two beautiful masks and I’m so proud of myself!
Oh yeah, and whenever I want to leave the apartment I have to take the stairs, I don’t trust the elevators (small spaces, stupid people, you get it). I live on the 9th floor. Fuck.

in my duolingo league there’s a guy with over 4500 XP this week (and it’s only wednesday!), duome.eu has raw data for every user and this guy data is just +24XP +22XP +24XP every couple minutes with a break every two hours or so. can you imagine spending your whole day just doing stories? it’s so absurd, 4th place has 229 XP, 3rd has 387, 2nd has 611 and this guy has 4512 XP. from stories. why would you do that?! that’s just pure torture!
