I get anxious really easily when I think I've upset a God, or managed to disrespect them despite being really careful, and I think it's because I'm an ex-Christian.
I'm not sure how I can train myself out of the guilt and fear I have when I think I've messed up in any way - I'm new to this and still testing the waters, so I'm bound to mess up, and I don't want to stress myself out whenever I connect dots that don't exist
Any advice for me?
- 🫶 (you'll be hearing from me a lot..)
This is an excellent question Anon. I have many friends who are ex-Christians, in some cases even being from ex-fundamentalist groups. This is often a topic we discuss, as shame and guilt and fear (especially of the unknown) are tools to manipulate, coerce, and control someone or a group. I even experienced this early in my practice: when something bad happened to me, I’d assume it was something I did to upset a God. In my experience, I worked some of this fear out in therapy especially regarding my internalized fear of abandonment, shame of being “weird” or “not normal” (what even is normal?), and my childhood history of emotional neglect.
Here is what I will tell you, Anon — the Gods, including God singular, are much more forgiving and understanding than some of Their followers will make Them seem. They understand that in a modern life, it is difficult to keep up with the demand of, well, everything. They appreciate what you give — be that a full-on offering, or khernips, or just a thought or prayer sent Their way as a thanks order act of devotion — They do not meddle in the petty games of “it’s not good enough, not big enough, not enough” as we do. They see our efforts and sometimes, will respond in kind.
I hope this helped Anon! I look forward to hearing from you :)
Hey all. It’s been a minute.
I realized recently it’s been five years since I’ve picked up this blog/app, and I realized that it was something I missed — community. I missed being a part of something larger, a part of something meaningful. So, I started a mid-year goal to make at least one post a week starting with this one, an update regarding my life and practice. So, here’s what’s new in the last five years.
Pandemic hit me hard, I became disabled through multiple covid infections despite doing my best to be careful (I worked “essential retail”, then in a nursing home, now in the community. More on that later). As a result of those infections I developed POTS, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. I went from being an active 19 year old, to barely being able to stand up and walk across a room without being faint and dizzy, sometimes resulting in a full syncope episode. Nowadays, my POTS is controlled with medication, compression, and my service dog(s). Speaking of…
Remember that post, asking for assistance with my pup’s emergency surgery? Well, not only did Cosmo pull through and recover beautifully (thanks to generous people in our community), he began training as my cardiac and psychiatric service dog which was exactly what his driven, energetic, keen mind needed. Over the course of two years we trained rigorously together, and he became public access approved in 2023 — when my POTS really developed full-on. Now, at almost 13, Cosmo is happily retired and only works on HIS terms, and is helping me train my next service dog — a Catahoula Leopard Dog named Amaretto Pucker, or Puck for short. See end for pics.
I graduated in 2021 with my BA in Sociology and minor in Anthropology with nearly enough credits for a criminology degree as well (I didn’t want to take an extra class at the time). I utilize this degree as a Community Support Worker/Direct Support Professional, where I assist clients from all things like getting public aid (think food stamp, disability, social security, etc applications), to going to appointments and attending those appointments with clients when consent is given, to managing health conditions and medications, to teaching and developing social skills, to so much more. It’s exceptionally fulfilling.
I have moved 4 times in the last 16 months, and it’s about 3 times too many. Right now I am in my own place, a mobile home in a rural town that is just enough space for me and the critters — because I also got 3 cats over the course of the last year, as the cat distribution system is no joke! They’re lovely, though, and we are our own family.
I am in a happy relationship with my partners, Katie and Nova — a high school teacher and a state clerical worker — and am finally feeling safe and loved and seen in a relationship. Bonus points for Katie being polytheistic as well, though more eclectic than I!
My devotional practice has flourished, and in my current days I find myself becoming more mindful of my practice — I sit quietly now, instead of raging or crying or begging. I find myself more at peace, less desperate for guidance. I am working on building a functional yet safely out-of-reach-from-animals altarspace, so oftentimes I find myself praying very khernips in the mornings and evenings, thanking the Gods for the blessings of my day. I veil more frequently now, as I find it not only ground, but soothing.
I appreciate those of you who have stuck around this long, and I look forward to going through my askbox! Plan for more devotional activities/outfit inspirations/veiling ideas/devotional playlists from me, as I have been working to develop and curate these ideas for a while!
May the Gods’ favor shine upon you,
Gray ❤️
the sigil i made tonight as my intentions for the full moon: i choose myself.
i must prioritize myself in my relationships, or i will be forgotten and looked over. i am my own rock, and i will be the only one who is always here. i must choose myself.
if this resonates with you, please feel free to share or use!!!
I think I'd like to start working with Aphrodite and Ares but I'm not sure they'd want to work with me. Any advice?
I'm someone who believes that if you are drawn to a god it's because that god is calling you. I use the kitty analogy to better explain what I mean:
Imagine you are walking and see a cute kitty by the pond staring at the fish. You want to walk up and pet it but because the kitty is super focused, you will end up scaring it if you suddenly pick it up and it might fall into the pond and drown trying to get away from you. So you take out your keys and lightly jingle them. The sound is loud enough to get the Kitty's attention but quiet enough for the the cat to get used it. When the cat looks at you, you slowly lower your keys and now have them over the cat's head where he tries to paw at it, now the cat is very interested in you, so you pick it up and pet it.
In this analogy, you are the kitty, the god/goddess is the person and the keys are energy the god is sending in order to make you interested in working with them. They're trying to get your attention.
Disclaimer: this is just a personal belief. There are others who feel this is not true for them and that's okay. Everyone is different.
So it all boils down to what you believe to be true for you.

Apollo has helped me realize that my trauma is not a personality trait. That my feelings, my anger, are valid but that I shouldn’t let it consume me, and that’s exactly what I had been letting it do. For almost ten years I’d let my trauma dictate how I lived my life, and I tried to get help from therapists but I always felt like they were judging me and trying to take that piece of me away. That was when Apollo came to me, a gentle but firm hand on my shoulder, whispering that my trauma is not who I am as a person. He woke me up from a limbo that I had been living in for years and I am the happiest I have ever been because of Him. We still have a lot to work on together, but He is always there with me on my bad days. I am so thankful to have Apollo in my life, and I love Him more than I ever thought I could love anything.
TW- nazis, anti Semitic bullshit
Not gods related but still extremely relevant and important to this blog.
So today I had to block a nazi blog. I only recognized that the blog that followed me was a nazi because it had “hitlerist” in the URL. Apparently they’re picking up more speed in the Hellenic polytheism community. I want to make it PERFECTLY clear that I do NOT want any nazis following me. Nazis are not welcome in this community, and I won’t even think about opening the door to them. No way. I don’t care if I lose folllwers over this, if the followers were self proclaimed nazis or hitler apologists then they’re not the kind of people I want interacting with my posts.
Also it shows it as “not following each other” because I blocked them right after sending that then unblocked them for like 1 minute to screenshot what I sent so that I could make it extremely clear to anyone who sees this how I feel about nazis and nazi blogs. I posted that they followed me as proof that I wasn’t just making it up or messaging a random blog. So yeah. Fucking yikes. Feel free to reblog.
Yikes. Hard second on this. Nazis needs to stay the fuck out of our community. If you are a Nazi or think that any part of nazism is okay unfollow me right the fuck now. I don’t stand for that shit. I’m hella queer and was raised in part by a queer Jewish woman so yeah, just fucking miss me with that shit. Bigotry does not belong in Hellenismos. If you think anyone is less than you because of their gender, sexuality, ethnicity, ancestry, skin color, or any mental or physical disability they have YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE. I don’t think you’re less than me, I just think you’re an asshole.
this person has either deactivated or changed their name, if it’s the latter can someone send me the new url asap so I can report and block them? Thank you babes ♥
A few things:
I'm really disgusted that they reblogged that post from me.
I checked my followers and they're all amazing, not a Nazi in sight.
I think that account deactivated because the reblog doesn't show up in my recent activity and it would have probably been yesterday.
Nazis, DO NOT INTERACT. If you are a Nazi, TERF, etc., there's no place for you here.
WOW THIS IS REALLY UPSETTING!
Hello everyone, As a POC of Mexican descent, and in the process of dealing with the fact that my people are literally dying in cages because of NAZIS (white nationalist AKA domestic terrorists), I can assure you that my wife (@delicatestar ) is NOT A NAZI and I would have NEVER married them if they were.
Nazis, TERFs and anyone else who is so insensitive to cause pain and suicides please don't EVER interact.
My blog is an LGBT+ (TRANS inclusive, non-binary, genderfluid, etc), Jewish positive, and POC safe zone.
Hey, that's the same one I talked about!
Just to be clear: Any possible Nazis following this blog (I looked and I didn’t see any, but just in case) can sincerely fuck off. You have 0 place here and I don’t want you here. This religion doesn’t tolerate Nazi ideals, white supremacist ideals, TERF ideals, etc. This blog is a safe place for kind folx who AREN’T fascists, racists, or homophobes/transphobes.
Help Me Save My Dog
I know I’ve not been very active due to college taking up a majority of my time, but I would appreciate any and all help I could get.
This is Cosmo. He’s 6 years old, a pittie, and my best friend. His favorite activities include snuggling, napping under the blankets like a human, playing with his fur-siblings, and helping me with my anxiety and depression (as well as letting me vandalize him via lipstick when I need a smile). Unfortunately, even though he is my service dog (he is trained to intervene during my panic and anxiety attacks), my college wouldn’t allow him to be on campus with me due to his breed.
Today I got a call from my parents back home that he’s very, very sick. They and our friends who are vets are suspecting a blockage. For those that don’t know, that’s at least a $2,000 surgery without his exam, x-rays to diagnose, and any care he’ll need afterwards. I’m a nonworking college student due to my workload (18 credit hours) and my lack of vehicle. Any help that I could get would be greatly appreciated. Cosmo means the world to me, he makes my life a bit brighter and much more worthwhile.
I would be eternally grateful for any help I could get, and I could work out an exchange for any funds donated. I knit, embroider, cross stitch, and I tutor/assist in writing essays and speeches. I also do tarot and oracle readings that vary from single card readings to 5-card spreads, and I’m always available for any help you might need with your practice/craft. Included is the link to the GoFundMe I set up. Please DM me, find me on discord @ grayscaletestimony#8734, or include a note on your donation to best get in contact and we can work something out in exchange if you’d like.
Blessings and wellwishes,
Gray

Update!
As of right now we have $325 raised!! I am so, so grateful to all of you guys who have donated and spread the word and sent me kind messages. Cosmo is at the "emergency" vet now (we went to a smaller clinic for x-rays and his exam where they saod it was most likely a blockage that would need surgical removal), and they are taking a few more x-rays to ensure that surgery is necessary. Right now it's looking like he will need the surgery, but the vet reassured us that if they will try to get the blockage to pass without it. Like I said before, if you donate you can message me and work something out if you would like any kind of thank you gift — even if it's just a card.

Athena Devotional Acts
Taking a quick break from Chthonic deities to go for a few Ouranic deities! I’m working on having more regular posts (at least one Devotional Act post a week) that way there’s at least something a week so as to have a schedule. I’ve got a load of drafts in progress including the second wardrobe association, by popular demand!
Now, I love working with Athena. I got a lot closer to Her recently, especially when I started going to college. I had a lot of late nights with Her while I was studying, and in doing that I found lots of ways to honor Her.
Devote a study session to Her
Do any kind of activity to stimulate the brain (I like number games like sudoku, and jigsaw puzzles)
Pick up a new book to read, set it on your altar as an offering for Her before you read it
Rewrite your notes in your free time
This is also a great study tool (I am a college student, I will offer advice where I can!), it will help you to absorb the knowledge better in your second (less hurried) go-round.
If you have the opportunity to, help your fellow peers
Treat owls with respect
One thing I do is try to educate people about the dangers of poisoning mice outdoors, since owls can die due to eating a poisoned mouse.
Take up a new hobby
I took up knitting, I found it was not only a great way to connect with Athena, but also a nice way to unwind (plus, knitting altar cloths is fun in my opinion)
Learn basic self defense moves (YouTube is your friend)
Seek the truth and stand by what you believe in
Learn about something new, or learn about something you’ve always wanted to know more about
Take interest in local politics and government
Practice loving yourself
And many, many more not listed here!
As always, my DMs are open! I love talking to ya’ll, let me know what you’d like to see! I’m planning a series of devotional playlist posts as well, if anyone is interested in those let me know! All would be available on Spotify.
Until next time, darlings!

Dorm-friendly offerings & altars
I don’t know about y'all, but I’m BIG on using candles and burning incense as offerings for my deities. I love asking them to help me pick out a candle or incense scent that they would like, and burning it in their honor. That’s my standard go-to when I’m at home. But when I move back on campus this fall, I’m going to have to get a bit more creative for the no-burning-things rule and so as not to alert my already suspicious roommate, lol. I thought I’d compile a list of ideas for dorm and roommate-friendly offerings and altars.
Obvs, this can be useful in any situation in which you can’t practice openly for whatever reason. PLEASE, feel free to add your own ideas & your own examples from your practice. I want this to be an interactive list!
Offerings
Make them a drink (coffee and tea seem to be popular, but anything can work)
Cut out a portion of your lunch to share with them
Draw them (they’ll love it!)
WAX WARMERS!! If you can have them. Closest alternative to a candle
Oil diffusers
Collect pretty things you find outside that remind you of them. Rocks, feathers, flowers, etc.
Dedicate your work in their domain to them (ex. dedicating your study time to Odin)
If you have kitchen access, bake things for them
Altars
Pocket altars are always a good idea (check out the pocket altar and altoid altar tags for ideas)
E-shrines
If you can do it discreetly, you can set up your altar on a windowsill or in a corner of your desk.

Japanese tea bag maker Ocean-Teabag has been making waves by creating little parcels of aroma in the shape of marine animals. Luckily for us, their wide range of tea bags are available at online Japanese novelty retailer Village Vanguard, maker of such fine products as Space Tea and cat-shaped kitchen utensils.
Ocean-Teabag’s earliest designs included beautiful dolphin tea bags filled with blue mallow tea leaves. Steeping them turns your otherwise normal pot of water into a tranquil ocean. Proving to be a hit among tea lovers, Ocean-Teabag expanded their repertoire to many other sea creatures including the sea turtle (butterfly pea jasmine tea)…
the distinctive ocean sunfish (Japanese hojicha — roasted green tea)…
the graceful manta ray (tropical mango tea)…
and even a blood-thirsty shark (blended herb tea).
The newest addition to their robust series of marine creatures is a tea bag shaped like an innocuous sea cucumber. This little parcel is filled with jasmine tea, as well as a smidgen of sea cucumber powder to lend some authenticity. Ocean-Teabag warns that some people who have a sensitive tongue may find it tasting a little fishy.
The company also crafted a deep sea series that will satisfy even the most adventurous of tea drinkers out there. A few such examples are the anglerfish (earl grey tea)…
the creepy giant isopod (Eastern Beauty oolong tea)…
the horseshoe crab (white apricot tea)…
…and lastly the king of them all, the enormous giant oarfish. ( Delicious Assam tea of epic proportions! ) Just like its namesake, it measures a whopping 19 centimeters (7.5 inches). Drinking tea becomes an art when half of your tea bag hangs out of your cup.
While the notion of turning your cup of tea into fish-inhabiting waters is not new, these tea bags will hopefully conjure up images of gentle ocean waves in your mind.
WHERE TO FIND THE TEA
Hekate Devotional Acts
We are chugging right along! Up next is Hekate in my devotional acts series! And in case anyone is wondering, most of these come right from my grimoire that I keep in-person (because I feel like it brings me closer to the Gods). So, here’s some devotional acts to do for Hekate!
Be nice to animals, especially ones with black fur (black dogs and cats are two animals associated with Her)
If you’re a witch, do a small spell dedicated to Her
Thank Her when you go through or come upon a crossroads or intersection (this is good if you live in a city or suburban area)
If safe to do so, take a late night walk
I can’t do that where I am, so instead, I’ll sit on my roof and watch the stars and clouds late at night
Practice divination
This is a good one if you’re a witch too, although everyone can do it
In my experience she likes tarot readings
Rearrange your altar space
I find this to be relaxing for me, and a really good mix up every few months
Other Gods like it as well, in my experience
Sit in a dark room with only a candle burning and meditate
This one sounds odd, but it is not only relaxing but symbolizes (in my mind) Her torch guiding you
Learn about the history of witchcraft
This is a bonus for me because I love history, but She also may like it if you venture out and learn about something She controls/presides over
Read stories about spirits
This is a good act in general regarding Chthonic deities, since They are all connected to the Underworld in some way or shape
Love yourself, because the Gods love you
And many others!
Also, we’re almost to 500 followers? When did that happen? Holy crow? Thank you to everyone, new and old and in between, for following! It means the world! <3!!!
P.S.--Next wardrobe post is in the works, as are some playlists! Stay tuned!
