I had a thought while in the shower this morning - I'm calling it the Conundrum of Theseus' Worm. It hybridizes the Ship of Theseus Paradox with the outdated meme, "Would you still love me if I were a worm?"
Let's suppose you're on a walk with your partner, significant other, loved one, or otherwise an individual of great appreciation in your life. You two walk along when suddenly your partner is struck by the capricious whims of the Gods (I'm riffing on the Theseus angle here, work with me folks) which rends spirit from physical form. Woe is them!
In a desperate bid to rectify their mistake, the Gods shove your partner's consciousness into the nearest living creature - a worm - and take the most recently deceased person's spirit and ram it into your partner's body. The result is one wherein your beloved is no longer themselves in either body or spirit. Their consciousness (spirit) now exists as a worm while their physical form now contains a completely different consciousness.
Which entity is your beloved? Which do you choose to love and live with? Both and Neither are acceptable answers. Please explain your reasoning for full marks.
