think about it. he’s probably able to get around the xianxia laws and somehow make an obscene amount of money. maybe he’s an inventor or maybe he just thinks of the inventions and then sells the intellectual property (that he also just invented the concept of) to local traders.

but of course he’s not going to be in PROUD IMMORTAL DEMON WAY without learning a thing or two about cultivation! what a waste!! so he sets about learning some stuff about how qi works and oh wow! he’s actually quite good at this!

and of course of course he’s not going to let this xianxia world, however ancient, get away with having a fully functioning slave trade!! are you crazy!!! he will do just the same as any modern person would do in this scenario an obviously become a vigilante abolitionist.

and somehow he’s doing all three of these things at the top of the field. and somehow no one ever drew the dots between the scholarly inventor who keeps getting commissioned by the emperor for his work AND the most wanted man on the planet who keeps raiding auctions and freeing slaves.
