I’ve labelled this session under said name due to the fact that where I have been working on a banana paddock I had to be out working at 6:30am when everything is still dark out and to me I have created the perfect playlist for the mood that I was in every morning when the light was dim with the fog at my feel.

The songs chosen for this session are mostly Post Rock songs with no lyrics spoken for sung. Please do not jump to any immediate conclusions from that last sentence. Before I had really given post rock a chance I didn’t think there was any way a group of guitars, drums and keys could make anything but rock; however I was wrong. This music personally moves me in the way no other music has and to this day I am unsure why.

Give this playlist a chance. However I ask one thing of you. Please try to listen to this either through a great pair of headphones (Marshall are my personal favourites) or on your own in a dark place.

The other songs I have chosen with lyrics use extremely dimmed voices so nothing is taken away from the magic played behind.

The first band chosen is ‘Explosions In The Sky’, this is the first Post Rock band I had ever really listened to and some of you may have heard the song I have chosen as the intro theme to the TV Series ‘Friday Night Lights’.

Most of the Post Rock music I have listened to has been from Friday Night Lights, and most of the bands are also from Texas (Where the show is set). The next band is 'This Will Destroy You’, and the music will destroy you; I have never heard such power notes played my rock instruments before until this band.

After discovering my love for Post Rock, I discovered 'Mogwai’ and 'Sleepmakeswaves’; firstly they have incredibly good band names, especially the latter, and secondly their music is phenomenal. (I’m running out for adjectives to describe Post Rock band, just trust me).

Moving onto the Indie Bands I believe have what it takes to stand in the same category as the bands previously mentioned.

Dawn Golden; I honestly forget how I came across this band, but what I do know is that I was convinced it was Chris Martin of Coldplay. Once I had discovered that is in fact wasn’t Mr Martin I just listened to their music and it sent me into a trance.

Foals - Koreless Remix; I heard the remixed track 'Late Night’ at the end of 2013 driving back home on a Friday night from Brighton. It was being played on Annie Mac’s show on BBC Radio 1. Miss Mac’s show was called the Hot Water Bottle and that is extra what this track felt like.

Palpitation; I remember years ago on my Facebook homepage a boy who I barely knew shared a link to this song and I am forever great full.

Novo Amor; I actually discovered this band from watching a Lynx Advert (Axe for the Americans) and was so intrigued by the song being played in the background 'Welcome To The Jungle’. I went straight into iTunes and saw they also had an EP out, 'Woodgate, NY’ and instantly purchased it. I listened to those 5 songs every night for two weeks and it ended up being the only way I could get to sleep.

Ásgeir; I absolutely love Icelandic Music. This love started, similar to most people, with Sigur Rós. I just love to harmonic sounds Icelandic singers can make. After listening to a lot of Sigur Rós, I discovered the front man’s solo work, Jónsi, and then worked my way to finding Ásgeir. While I lived in Brighton I listened to him every morning at 5am on my way to work. Every time I hear these songs now it transports me back to Early Morning Brighton.

Since being in Australia I have settled in a place called Tully looking for work and since being here I have restarted working out at the gym. I go to the gym with my Canadian friend I’m travelling with.

While in the gym we were discussing what sort of music gets us pumped and what we listen to during my work out. My friend told me he only listens to Old School Rap (Eminem) and Dance music (Martin Garrix & Dash Berlin) to get him pumped.

I said I listen to a lot of loud rock and punk rock music and he was shocked. He didn’t believe it was possible to train listening to this. I personally believe there is no other music that you could even think about listening to while in the gym. For me the best time to start my exercises and start lifting is when I heavy drop comes and the drums and guitars really go for it.

Currently my main album to listen to at the gym is ‘Common Courtesy - A Day To Remember’. There is so many incredible songs on the album however my personal favourite has to be 'Sometimes You’re The Hammer, Sometimes You’re The Nail’; this song has such a big energy surrounding it.

My summer playlist consists of songs I’ve always listened to while on Holiday with either family or friends that remind me of a beautiful place, or music I know has a upbeat tempo and sound that just makes me feel happy &I know summer is here.

Passion Pit. Passion Pit are one of my longest running summer sounds and I’ve always listened to them after a friend of mine told me about his experience watching them at Reading Festival. The sun was beaming down on main stage and Passion Pit start their set. ‘Sleepy Head’ comes on and my friend explains how the band managed to get the entirety of the main stage audience to reach their heads up in the air and belt out the abnormal sound of ‘wa wa wa wa waaaa, wa wa wa wa wa waaaa’. Now every time I hear them come on I picture a hot sunny festival.

Matt & Kim. My sister introduced me to Matt & Kim while on holiday in the Caribbean, sailing around the British Virgin Islands. She played 'Daylight’ from the album Grand. Straight away I acknowledged that is this probably one of the most upbeat songs ever released and I don’t think it’s possible to listen to this track in a bad mood.

Aer. #FreshAerMovement, the movement overrun by the summer stoner. Aer is purely upbeat stoner rap and there is an absolute beauty about it. My friend introduced 'Floats My Boat’ to me on the summer of 2012 while being standard college students sitting in a field passing around an awfully rolled joint. Obviously everyone got all excited comparing the opening lyrics to our current situation. But those are the days you never forget, and wish you go back to.

Asher Roth. *Does not contain 'I Love College’ * I had to clear that up quickly before everyone, including me lost interest. 'Fallin’ The second song I heard off the album and quickly became a summer favourite. Similar to Aer; white, upbeat, college rap containing lyrics you can’t follow and tell quite an amusing story.

Coasts. I worked last summer on the French Island of Corsica and the beach bar had basically one summer long playlist. This was obviously extremely hard to be around, however now and again Coasts would make an appearance and that was 3-5 minutes of joy depending which track was chosen off their 'Paradise - EP’. This band takes me back to 6 months of “working” (Term used extremely lightly) on the beach.

Hellogoodbye. Obviously 'Here (In Your Arms)’ was going to make an appearance at some point or another. This is a track that everyone has heard and almost everyone pipes up and sings along as soon as the play button is pressed but I’m not sure anyone really knows how or when this song came into their life. All I know is this is a personal favourite of mine and my friend to contribute to a remarkable summer playlist.

Kate Nash. Though Foundations is obviously a great sing along track (covered awesomely by Newton Faulkner) that does not make the playlist. Feel free to add if necessary. Instead 'Birds’, another of Miss Nash’s quirky songs telling the story of a boy jumping barriers and buses to spend time with his girl. A very bubbly comical song, a great addition to the playlist.

The Lighthouse and The Whaler. Quite an unknown indie band which accompanies the playlist perfectly singing about falling in love (Like that’s never been sung about before), but it’s beat and the airiness to the singers voice seems to pull a cliché song off rather well.

Urban Cone. An mystical indie band with an extraordinary album 'Our Youth’ followed by 'Our Youth Pt. 2 - EP’. Another band, introduced by my sister, which straight away jumped out at me with the song 'We Should Go To France’ and as France and especially Paris is as I believe what dreams are made of (Wow, really?), this just seemed to work perfectly.

I am currently travelling Australia, and whilst sitting out in the sun my friend asks for someone to put some music on through the speaker; they asked who had a good summer playlist. I then stepped forward realising I have a specific set list of songs I enjoy listening to every time it's sunny out.

I also spotted that there is a different set list for a lot of different life situations.

Throughout this blog I am going to talk about what music I listen to at different times and why I listen to them, leading into a construction of a playlist I hope others will enjoy.

I'd also love to hear anyone's thoughts on what I've chosen, what you agree with or what you would personally change.
