In this course, and many other English courses I have taken I have learned many different writing processes. Luckily, my writing is not limited to just this course. I can use these processes that I have learned when writing papers for other classes, when I have a job some day that requires me to write anything formal or even just a letter that I have to write.

The most challenging project for me this semester was probably the infographic assignment because, although I had a lot of information going into the assignment, it was difficult to place things in the way that they would be aesthetically pleasing and also catch the attention of the audience. Although we have done writing assignments over the course of the semester, I do not think my writing skills improved too much and I think that is because we are online. Of course we have all of the materials to help us improve our writing, however, I personally learn better when I am being taught face to face.

Counter: The only way that people can be intellectual is through a school education.
People have found that they do not need to be educated in school to find things that they love doing
It is possible (and sometimes better) to “survive” in the environment that you are currently living in without being academically inclined.
This is targeting students who feel that they are not doing well in school but know that they are educated in other areas of life.

In the article “Finding Your Niche in Life” by Thomas Armstrong, he relates to Gerald Graff’s “Hidden Intellectualism” because he talks about how there are other things that you can find to become educated in that is different from school. He relates to young adults who do not really have a plan and do not know what they are good at, but informs them that they will find an area to become educated on that suits them.

In this image, it shows students graduating from college. However, it demonstrates that clearly education comes with a price. It is trying to get the attention and appeal to students in college through pathos because most of us are going into thousands of dollars of debt once we are done here and we already know how stressful it is going to be. It is saying that college is way over priced and that we are going to school just to be stressed about paying off that debt for the rest of our lives. It uses examples of different students and the different amounts that they will have to pay off once they are out of school. The numbers on each student’s cap are bold to show that it is a big deal to pay for college. Choosing what you want to do after school is a huge decision, but you have to make sure that you can pay for that education with whatever you do.

The one piece of advice that stood out to me the most in the essay “How to write the perfect sentence” was “ A common piece of writing advice is to make your sentences plain, unadorned and invisible. George Orwell gave this piece of advice its epigram: “Good prose is like a windowpane.” A reader should notice the words no more than someone looking through glass notices the glass.” It stuck out to me because it was so random, yet it made sense. The author is saying that the words that you write should not be what you focus on but the message behind the words and how it is important to the rest of the writing.

Whenever I wrote an essay and we did peer reviews in class it was always helpful to me because someone on the outside will always pick up on the things that you missed. Something that was most helpful to me when someone else looked at my essay was that something did not make sense or that it was irrelevant to my topic. That allowed me to step back, look at my essay, and only include what was necessary in it. Most of the suggestions I get when someone else is looking at my paper are beneficial to me. I do not take any suggestions lightly so that my essay can be the best it can be.

In TSIS on pages 248-255, the author explains how people can have street smarts and how people can be book smart. Just because people do not excel intellectually does not mean that they are anti-intellectual and they may be highly educated in other areas of life.

During my writing process for project 1, I first thought about all the teachers that have had an impact on my writing. I organized my writing by making an outline in a separate Word Document and I planned out what would go in which paragraph. In project 2 I could definitely plan out more details that I want include in my paragraphs that can make them more interesting.

Who has affected my writing
When I was in 10th grade, my English teacher did all that she could to make sure that we left the class as strong writers. She taught us the proper way to write essays, research papers and literary analyses. We would constantly annotate short stories so that we knew how to use them in our writings. She also had us write many literary analyses so that we could practice strong writing and easily see the mistakes that we were making. She was definitely the person who had the strongest influence on my writing.

My experience with writing so far has been fairly normal to anyone my age. In high school I took standard English classes and wrote essays about every other week. I learned how to properly structure essays so that they flowed nicely and made sense through out. What was most confusing for me was writing a conclusion paragraph to an essay. I could never figure out a way to make closing statements that flowed well with the rest of my writing.
