Denise Gough and Kyle Soller talk working with each other, their favourite Star Wars characters, and⦠Chewbacca impressions? [x]
This was back when life was still exciting.
This is from Saturday the 21st of Feb. I fucked up again š. I was in the 14th row, behind the fucking column and clearly forget how to zoom in. And Denise obviously shined so brightly I could not see her first bow. But I loved the play immensely and I was thrilled to see Denise again on stageš.
So last week I was in London to see the play High Noon. Actually, I went to see it TWICE, because it was so good (and because I fucked up filming the curtain call. I thought I was recording a video, when I obviously wasn't and noticed too late.) So this tiny little clip is from Friday, the 20th of February.

How it feels when you and your friends take a piss break on the road trip and just as youāre about to leave, the whole gas stop gets flooded by several busloads of university students.

KEERO WEEK 2025 | @syrilxdedra
ā³ Day One - Favourite Scene(s)
It is criminal how little we got them in season2. I expected much more.To be honest, Keero is the ONLY reason I watched the show.
They were the characters I found the most intriguing and appealing. I too watched it just because of them. I didnāt care about any of the other characters. None of them made me feel anything. I watched the rest of the show as a commentay on revolutions and fascism, but only Syril and Dedra affected me. I didnāt relate to the personalities and problems of any of the good guys. They felt distant. And moralising. Syril and Dedra were more real and fleshed out. Letās be honest, most of us donāt dream of heists and most of us will never have the resentment required to pick up a gun and go to kill or die as martyrs in a violent revolution. Most of us just dream of being acepted and recognised, most of us are closer to Syril and Dedra than we will ever be to the rebels.
I was also most attached to the characters of Syril and Dedra, and honestly I donāt think Iāve been this attached to many (or any?) other characters before. I loved them as individual characters, and I loved them together as a couple. I still canāt get over their canon fates in the show and just how badly it ended for both of them. I was emotionally destroyed for a week after when I was done watching the episodes. I still cry thinking about their fates all these months later.
I also really canāt find much joy in rewatching the show past their domestic era in the first arc of season 2. Because when Syril is on Ghorman it sort of already starts being downhill from there for both of them and it makes me endlessly sad. Also I feel like all the other problems with the second season also really start to show up at this point.
I had the same reaction. Thatās why I am angry at the cruelty of what they did to them. They were the most intriguing charactets, the most well developed. And the writers knew what they were doing. They were well aware of the appeal of these characters. Thatās why they released the lights out scene. Thatās why both seasons started with humanising Dedra only to pull the rug beneath you at the end. And they made sure to make it hurt the second time. The show is not about us, because if you care about these characters rewatching it is impossible. You can rewatch it only if you enjoy what happens to them. Thatās why I donāt believe that the idea was to make us feel bad for them. Itās the same as if someone tried to assert, that degradation porn is meant to teach horrible men empathy. We see how the makers treat characters they sympathise with. And we see how they had to grasp at straws with the writing after the first arc in season two and tune down Dedra and Syrilās intelligence to build up the tension between them and have them where they wanted them. It was not about fascism, it was about punishing these two people. Remember, they could have given them any personalities, they could have made them repulsive. But they made them loners, strarved for connection and recognition, with communication issues, and who donāt fit in a crowd. And then the writers destroyed them while still treated their own self-inserts with respect. I have ranted so much about this. Dedraās ending was the sci-fi version of āThe Taming of the Shrewā, but few registered it or spoke out about it, because she conveniently was The Villain Who Did Horrible Things. (And what they did to Bix also fits the trope about breaking the strong woman.) Itās not overexaggeration to say the trauma from Syril and Dedraās endings made me rethink the entire show. Anyway, here are my fic recommendations if you want to heal yourself from season two. This one is a great alternative to their season two arcs. And this one is a great, feel good crackfic.
The only thing keeping sane after that HUUUGE disappointment that season2 game me is that there would be some sort of Dedra series coming in the near future (but not fucking cartoon, or I'll explode). Because otherwise it would be unforgivable how they tossed her story into the bin and gave us stories of the very lame characters instead. And those fucking endless and boring wedding scenes, Cassian's jungle adventures and those fucking lame scenes with Bix.
