Like 80% of Love and Deepspace Lore (I'm not done with the story yet!)

Is that supposed to be a diss? Are victims supposed to be mocked? Is abuse funny?

In the original novel, Maysilee is the one haunting the narrative. The mockingjay pin, the entire face of the revolution is because of her. She is behind it all, and I think it’s such a waste to try and rehash that and say “oh, actually, it’s all because of Lenore Dove.”

We had a perfect opportunity in SOTR to reinforce this concept of someone lingering in the shadows, someone Haymitch is really only that aware of, and that person is always there, and it reminds him of his own failures, his mistakes, his inner turmoil.

I almost dropped Sunrise on the Reaping three times because Haymitch would not shut up about Lenore Dove, and the latter overshadowed literally everything that was important. Honestly, his times with Maysilee were probably my favourite because he was having organic interactions, showing a genuine connection instead of yapping.

The impact of everyone else’s death—especially Sid and Willamae’s—is drowned out by this ridiculous, out-of-character obsession with a character I don’t even believe was that interesting. It’s been a year since the book came out, I’ve avoided most discourse about it until now, but I sincerely hope we’ve stopped glazing it, and realised it’s just… not a great sequel, especially in comparison to the original trilogy.

And that’s not to say there weren’t parts I enjoyed. I adore Louella’s character, and the subtle nod to Haymitch’s nickname for Katniss. Ampert was absolutely adorable, but again, all of that is whelmed by this insistence that Lenore Dove is the essential part of the narrative.

It’s usually less about “I can’t like Zutara” and more like,“I don’t want to like Zutara” because it’s a huge fandom. If you don’t like Fire Lady Katara, great, there’s a section for you here. You don’t think there’s enough time in canon? We have thousands of post-canon AUs.

Katara, before Zuko was on her side, offered to heal his scar with spirit water. Even with all the resentment that hadn’t been settled, she cared. Katara, after the Southern Raiders, was friendly and close with Zuko. None of this is inherently romantic, it’s just canon.

If Katara genuinely disliked or hated Zuko at the end of the show, she wouldn’t have sat near or been near Zuko in the Ember Island Players. She was acting playful and friendly with him, not rude and snarky. The entirety of Sozin’s comet too, like… their friendship and closeness is emphasised in the finale.

You can dislike Zutara, you can think all the things you do, but don’t flood that space with your vitriol, it’s so annoying. Do you want me tagging all my Zutara posts in your Kataang spaces? Well, maybe you do considering just how many of you seem to get off on arguing with exasperated Zutara shippers.

WHAT THE FUCK DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ZUTARA

If anything, that just points out another problem with the Kataang fandom???

I think his dynamic with Toph could’ve leaned into why she was pictured at the swamp, I think their earth and air dynamic could’ve been interesting to delve into, how he’s her freedom and she keeps him grounded.

I think Azula and Aang could also be interesting in the context of an Azula redemption arc. I think if Bryke/the comics hadn’t sabotaged what they had going on, I genuinely belief it could’ve been a new way for both characters to grow.

I also think Aang and On Ji is neat, I thought they were very cute together during the Headband! It’d be funny if he continued the trend of Avatars marrying Fire nation girls.

One thing, at least that I had a hard time believing, is that Toph became a police officer. The movie could’ve introduced why that happened.
