Me: okay, after my Big Project, I will probably work on a new everyday wool skirt with my 1890s pattern, maybe a late Victorian bathing suit to wear as a summer dress, perhaps another pair of casual linen pants-
The sewing demon in my brain: 1950s bullet bra
Me: ???? I don’t wear 1950s, I don’t really have a desire to, I don’t do vintage stuff, I’m not super familiar with the era-
Demon: make it look like two airplane noses are coming out of your chest RIGHT NOW
Let go of the idea that diy will inherently look shit. All your clothes are handmade you just don't see the people doing it.
I accidentally did a Wikipedia binge about 1st wave feminism and fashion and stumbled upon the 1890s bicycle suit. Do people know about this? Why didn't anyone tell me about this? This is dope as hell.
It's old-fashioned. It's modern. It's butch. It's femme. It's snazzy. It's practical.
Wikipedia talks about the bloomers and the leg-o-mutton sleeves, but I'm also noticing a lot of these outfits have absolute supervillain lapels, which I also like a lot.
finally, someone else giving some love to the much-slept-on bicycle suit.
“She imagined wearing her blue hood over her yellow gown, wearing her wimple and veil that made her look married; claimed by Rattay and by Jana, wrapped up in their colors, sealed and claimed forever, and not meant for anyone else.”
CHAPTER 20😭😭🎉🎉stood up and started clapping when i saw the detailed description of jindra’s outfit because that means i can draw it .. and the hood reveal oughhhh 🚬🚬i crode the way my henry is dressed exactly like this in my game too just a mess of blue and yellow for maybe or maybe not that exact reason oh gtfo

Me: ugh, patterning sucks
My friend: really? I quite enjoy it
Me: …
Me: to be clear, this is what my draft looks like so far
Me: it’s intended to be completely form fitting, and apart from trying to vaguely follow the diagram in the book, I’m just freestyling it
My friend:
My friend: oh
Draft 1 fitting done! Now I gotta trace out the new version to do the second (and hopefully final) fitting before I move onto the actual project
Version 2 has been traced and cut out, so now I’m back in the Halls of Eternal Basting. Send help and cups of tea pls
FINISHED THE BASTING!!
Time to have some food I think, and then I’ll need to see how much time is left. Theoretically I have a party tonight that I need to get to
Overlock Stitch by @clothes_reetzy
Damn, that's useful
Finally a hand sewing tutorial on a hemline that isn't just the ladder stitch! the ladder stitch disappears when you tighten it, but it's not meant for hemlines because it breaks really easily! The overlock stitch is more stable, so it holds much longer, and it won't pucker or warp the fabric!

My finished 14th-century kit! The houppelande was made by my boyfriend's mom, and I LOVE IT!! I feel like such a princess prancing around in my outfit. In total, the kit includes: a shift, wool hose, woven garters, leather turnshoes, cotehardie, houppelande, coif, silk veil/wimple, necklace, and fox pelt!

I think there might be actual human beings following this blog so just for fun here's Baby's Second Leather Dying from yesterday
My cotehardie! This was my first time ever sewing a fitted garment, and so it came out a lil wonky, but nothing some practice can't fix! The sleeves ended up having some issues, so I kept them open, and I think I might replace them. I really like the color of this garment.
