It’s with a heavy heart to say this, but it’s Kane’s last few days with me and will be passing away this weekend. I have to let him go and I’m not quite sure what life will be like without him, I’ve basically had him my entire adult life, getting him when I was 24 years old and he was only 8 weeks old. Today was rough, making one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make and one I’ve been fighting for quite some time now, but I had to call the Vet to schedule to have him put to sleep this Saturday😔 Kane would turn 16 years old in a few weeks and as much as I wanted to try and make it to his birthday, I just can’t let him suffer any longer, cause he would try to make it just to be with me as long as he can. He’s been a trooper and such a strong boy losing his hearing 4 years ago, and for the last 2 years lost his mobility in his back legs, so I’ve had to carry him up and down the stairs, hold him up to eat, drink and potty and his quality of life has just been severely declining in the last year. I always knew this day would eventually come and I would be a mess when that time came, but never knew it would be this difficult, because he’s been such a strong dog his whole life, living past his breeds age expectancy of 9-12 years and his strength gave me strength. Kane has had a great life, travelled across the country with me to California, tailgating at MIZZOU games, volleyball at Tiger Club, softball at Rainbow Park, Oakland Park and traveling softball tourneys at the Lake of the Ozarks, going canoeing and on float trips on the Meramac, hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains, fishing at Finger Lakes, camping trips, MKT & Katy Trail jogs, Santa Monica and Venice beach bike rides, swimming and playing major fetch with a giant 10 foot trees at Twin Lakes and Stephen’s Lake back home and swimming out here in Beverly Hills in the fountains. He’s raced and beat me up the 300 stairs of UCLA and always out ran me across any open field. He could jump up 5 foot walls and go down slides at the kids park, and was the most obedient dog obeying every command you could think of and sign language.
