Of course The Last Jedi gets my favorite movie of the year. Is it perfect? No. I definitely know the issues and am willing to rebuttal any argument given to me. But this is such a different type of Star Wars movie I loved it. Rian Johnson did such an amazing job and I’m super excited he is getting his own trilogy. I’m not saying you have to watch it again but I’ve watched so many podcast and reviews on everyone opinions and it’s a pretty consensus agreement that upon the second viewing they liked it more. Holy hell we are at the number 1 spot already. dvsn - Morning After gets a super strong A. Their first album, Sept. 5th was one of my top 3 in 2015. So my expectations for this album was super high. And I’ll be honest. When I first heard this album was good not great so for a few weeks I put it on the shelf. Big thanks to @badeleon6 for telling me to give it another chance cause it is indeed a great album. I’m not sure if I’m ready to fall in love now or I was just not looking for an R&B album to listen to at the time but man. dvsn is now officially one of my favorite R&B artist of all time. War For The Planet of The Apes concluded the Planet of The Apes trilogy on such a high note. I had to tie this movie with Bladerunner 2049 but it’s still so deserving of #2. Again the CGI is jaw dropping. Andy Serkis is such a fuckin amazing actor it’s insane. They way he brings Caesar to life is Oscar worthy. Some criticism this movie got was that there wasn’t much war. Fuck those people. Just cause it wasn’t ww2 doesn’t mean anything. It was intense when it needed to be and the slow parts built even more depth for the characters. Movie gets an A+. DAMN we at number 2 already. So Kendrick is probably my favorite rapper in the past 5 or so years and when he dropped this I was so hyped. I admit this isn’t on par with GKMC or TPAB but I don’t get the disappointment people are having over this album. This has everything a Kendrick Lamar should have from the production (and beat changes oh my gawd), storytelling, voice manipulations and bars. You know damn well you bumped the shit out of humble when it first dropped so quit playin. I don’t give a fuck what anyone thinks this is the best hip hop album of 2017. That’s what I think. So I can’t decide between Bladerunner 2049 and another movie I’ll show tomorrow but I am giving them both the rank of #2 on my list. Now I always thought the original was ok. I saw what the hype was about but never loved the film. What Bladerunner 2049 did for me was get me more immersed in the world Ridley Scott created and 2049 actually made me like the first one a lot more. 2049 is a slow movie but the visuals are orgasmic. The characters are amazing, Ryan Gosling killed again for me this year. The plot is a true detective movie and I’m not gonna spoil it but the trailers didn’t give away anything and I loved how the movie progressed itself. Denis Villenueve is one of my favorite directors right now. His directing is unmatched and the he could make a near perfect sci-fi film that’s definitely going down as one of my favorite. I can’t wait to own this on 4K. Oh and the sex scene is one of the dopest things I’ve ever scene visually. I was such in awe watching it. Top 3! 3 spot goes to Sampha - Process. I’ve never hear of this guy then I found out he was featured on NWTS and thought he sounded unique so why not look him up and give him a chance. Best debut album of the year bar none. This dude has serious talent and if you love R&B you need to listen to him. Process gets an A. That’s what I think. Take it light, but take it. Now it’s getting down to the nitty gritty. 4. Temples - Volcano. I’ve never heard of this band before but I was on YouTube on night listening to my favorite band while playing some games and eventually got to these dudes and listened to a few songs and was really digging the vocals and the overall psychedelic pop feel of this album. Thor Ragnarok is one of those movies where I automatically rank it higher cause The Hulk is in it and he’s my favorite Marvel superhero. It’s true what they say, this movie is probably one of the funniest in the MCU. Hela is also one of the best villains. She’s dope. CGI is amazing and it has Jeff freakin Goldblum. So Big KRIT has been one of my favorite artist since his Return of 4eva album. Then he drops this double album that’s definitely deserving of the number 5 spot. He comes with the lyrics. He comes with the perfect production. He comes with everything bruh. Literally both of these albums could be separated and make my top ten list without a problem. 6. Wind River. There’s a few actors I got sort of a soft spot for. Joel Edgerton, Idris Elba, and Jeremy Renner. Elizabeth Olsen is at her best in this but when I saw Taylor Sheridan wrote and directed this movie (and Sicario and Hell or High Water) I was sold. His visuals are always dope and the character writing he puts in is golden. Now this movie is a slow burn but I loved every second of the build up. There’s not a lot of exposition but you don’t even need it to understand the culture behind the people. Great writing gets the movie almost to the top 5 alone. Only real issue I have is it feels like it ended too abruptly. Wind River gets a smooth ass A- and definitely recommend it. Tomorrow we start the top 5! But anyways, that’s what I think about it. More life. Number 6. It’s crazy how much I can spin a Drake album. But I will say this album had plenty of highs giving me some of my favorite Drake songs ever. But it also gave me a few of the worst Drake songs ever. But the Simp God makes case for a strong A- albums that gives us more of that Toronto/Jamaican jams. Number 7- Spider-Man: Homecoming. The whole movie was awesome and Tom Holland is freakin great and honestly probably the truest Spider-Man to date. This was my second favorite movie of all the Spider-Man movies (Spider-Man 2 being my favorite) just by a hair tho. I almost instantly regret putting this at number 8 but yea. Number 8, Cyhi The Prynce - No Dope On Sundays. I’ve always thought Cyhi as a feature was dope. But never listened to a full project by him til now and damn. This MF got it all. The flow, the metaphors, hard beats/ beat switch ups(production),shiiiiit even the triple meanings in his wordplay gah damn. I’m tired as shit and these list are already getting tougher to make the final call. Wonder Woman takes the 8th spot cause this really felt like a war movie with Wonder Woman in it. Like I said in the JL review Gal Gadot has blown past my expectations and nailed this character so well. The trench scene is worthy of making the top ten list all by itself. But I have to say the movie did fall apart at the end when it was a big ol cgi fight that every other superhero movie has done already. Idk it just didn’t excite me like I wanted it to. Number 9…IT! Yes It. For those who don’t know I think horror is my least favorite genre to watch. But let’s be honest. It isn’t scary, it did make me jump at a couple parts but my biggest worry about It was the cast, having kids lead pretty much the whole movie could be a death sentence. But every kid was fuckin phenomenal. Surprisingly the banter between them all is exactly how my buddies and I talked back then so even though this is a horror movie, probably the movie that made me laugh the most and hardest this year.
