Best MM Ship Ever: GROUP 2 - Round 2

in general i think the nodyssey is Just a Movie and we should all probably calm down about it and like yes christopher nolan is genuinely a talented filmmaker so there are interesting and thought provoking things about it but also it’s homer and that shit has been scientifically proven to Fucking Slap for the last 2800 years and counting so it’s not exactly a surprise that at its core it’s not a terrible story but on a realer deeper level I think the thing I dislike about the movie is that it is completely devoid of all the things that make it a Greek story and so instead it is a Western story, which is only accepted so unquestioningly because we think of Greece as the Beginning of Western Culture (it’s not—that’s not a real thing) and if we didn’t think of it that way then it would be obvious that the movie has taken a very Particular Story from a very Particular Culture and drained it of all its particularity, leaving it a sad empty husk of western imperialism and if it had done that to say, a Mexican story or an Indian story or a Nigerian story or an Irish story etc then we would all be like “excuse mr nolan, it seems you have done An Imperialism” but the ancient greeks are dead (but are they? are greeks not greek? does greece not still exist?) so we do not even question our right to take one of their stories and make it our own. like it’s not even thought of as a creative choice, just a foregone conclusion.

My favorite thing about fanfic authors is they can identify any gap in a canon timeline where characters are offscreen and exploit the ever living fuck out of it
