I'm just over half way through Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton. Although it took me a bit to get into, the story has developed into a sand swirling adventure set against magic, myth and deceit with two strong main characters at the heart of the story. A good summer read for finally a sunny July day! :) #RebelOfTheSands #SummerReading #CurrentRead #Bookstagram
So many amazing quotes from the brilliant To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and many relevant to current circumstances of the world today but I thought I'd go for this classic quote. 'Atticus was right. One time he said you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them. Just standing on the Radley porch was enough.' #ToKillAMockingbird #HarperLee #GoSetAWatchman #HeyBoo #TheresJustOneKindOfFolksFolks #EqualRights #ScoutFinch #AtticusFinch #JemFinch #Bookstagram
Very excited to start Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll! :) Our works new thriller of the month. #LuckiestGirlAlive #JessicaKnoll #Bookstagram
Staring Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton today. I don't know a huge amount about this book but it follows a main character called Amani Al'Hiza who wants to escape her desert town of Dustwalk - a place where it is unforgiving to the orphaned, the poor and the female population. One night she meets a foreign stranger who gives her the chance to break free from the desert but it seems the desert is not the safest place to be even when your running from it... It reads on the blurb that it is 'An epic story of swirling desert sands, love, magic and revolution.' Sounds an awesome combo to me :) #RebelOfTheSands #AlwynHamilton #CurrentRead #Bookstagram

Thank you to @headlinebooks for sending me a proof of Mad Girl by Bryony Gordon. I loved it!! Iβve done a review for anyone who is interested in reading Mad Girl. I apologise for the bad grammar and waffle in advance as Iβm new to the reviewing game. I hope you enjoyβ¦ :) I'm not usually a great non-fiction reader but I read Mad Girl within a few days which goes to show just how great this book is! I was really intrigued by the concept of Mad Girl, as someone who has ocd I thought it would be interesting to read about another persons experience with living with ocd and other mental health issues. Bryony Gordon writes her accounts with such honesty, relatability and humour. She had me laughing in places and comforted and deep in understanding in others. It is not a book that perceives that mental health issues can be waved away by a magic wand but with making a decision to look after yourself, shaming the voices inside your head rather than yourself by finding a way that will help you cope with your mental health problem that works best for you will help defeat the demons in your head, quieten them and let you be yourself and live with the mute button on your mental health issue. Bryony Gordon shows the other side of mental health illnesses that generally get overlooked through the media - the darker, lesser known symptoms of ocd for example, the topics that the obsessions can ruminate on, how it effects your relationships with the people around you and the decisions you make. She doesn't glamourise or shy away from the truths of mental health illness's, doesn't put a gloss on the effects that it can have on your life but she does showcase the bully that is mental health illness as the irrational, horrible and worthless bully that likes to take up accommodation in its victims head and she shows that with determination, humour and your toolbox of coping mechanisms at the ready, that this bully won't win! This book is a brilliant and I can't wait to share it with others. #MadGirl #BryonyGordon #OcdAwareness #HeadlineBooks#Bookstagram

Thank you to @headlinebooks for sending me a proof of Mad Girl by Bryony Gordon. I loved it!! I've done a (probably waffley and badly punctuated) review for anyone who is interested in reading Mad Girl. I apologise for the bad grammar and waffle in advance as I'm new to the reviewing game. I hope you enjoy... :) I'm not usually a great non-fiction reader but I read Mad Girl within a few days which goes to show just how great this book is! I was really intrigued by the concept of Mad Girl, as someone who has ocd I thought it would be interesting to read about another persons experience with living with ocd and other mental health issues. Normally these sorts of books can become too formed - explaining the research into the cause of mental health issues in depth or can be too overwhelming with information, and in terms of fiction books, although they are generally great stories and a brilliant way to create awareness, they are often written by people who haven't experienced ocd themselves so sometimes the accuracy of the representation of ocd and mental health can be misleading, but Bryony Gordon writes her accounts with having ocd and other mental health problems with such honesty, relatability and humour. She had me laughing in places and comforted and deep in understanding in others. It is not a book that perceives that mental health issues can be waved away by a magic wand but with making a decision to look after yourself, shaming the voices inside your head rather than shaming yourself by finding a way that will help you cope with your mental health problem that works best for you will help defeat the demons in your head, quieten them and let you be yourself and live with the mute button on your mental health issue. Started reading One by Sarah Crossan. Written all in verses and about a very important subject matter. An awesome read so far :) #One #SarahCrossan #CurrentRead #TeaAndRead #DartmouthBookshop

Guylain almost felt like reassuring Monique, telling her it was OK, that everything would be fine, that striking up a conversation was the hardest bit and afterwards the words would come all by themselves, that there was no need to be afraid.

...a world where books were allowed to end their lives snugly arranged inside the green booths lining the parapets, growing old to the pulse of the great river watched over by the towers of Notre Dame.

We can let the circumstances of our lives harden us so that we become increasingly resentful and afraid, or we can let them soften us and make us kinder.
