Canon, canon, canon. How many times have we seen this word thrown around and how many times do we see fans argue over what’s considered canon? Plenty! Let’s clear up some confusion. “Canon” simply means “official in story”, regardless of subject. It’s canon x character has red hair, it’s canon these characters are in love, it’s canon x is stronger than y, etc.

There is not a one-to-one translation for “canon” in the Japanese language, as it is a very western concept. However, they do have their own word for it, which is the actual definition of canon. In Japan, the word for canon is 公式 (kōshiki/official). But their perception of what constitutes official is different than that of the west.

1. Gray Fullbuster x Juvia Lockser (Gruvia). Fairy Tail.

Yes, Gruvia is my favourite couple of anime. I guess it's because Fairy Tail arrived to my life in a very hard moment.

This fandom and specially this ship made me want to read fanfics again and get into anime and manga more and more and I will always be thankful for that. I am now a fanfic writer because of this, because I went back to read fanfics at that moment, so imagine the importance of Gruvia in my life.

To me, the best development of a ship in Fairy Tail is for Gruvia. It was so beautiful how this love was born, because Gray could stop Juvia's rain forever. He changed her life and, in a sort of way, set her free.

Juvia was so needed of love when she joined Phantom Lord and I'm sure she did things that she regrets now. But she was able to discover what true love is (and not only from Gray, but from her nakamas from Fairy Tail too) and that happened because Gray defeated her. And then they went trough a lot of stuff together.

I think Gray has feelings for Juvia for a long time, but he was scared to recognise it to himself because he didn't want to loose someone important again. If something defines Gray's life is loss. He lost his parents, Ur and Ultear and he didn't want to fall in love with someone and then loose her.

Imagine how painful this moment was for him. Gray thought he'd never be able to tell Juvia he loved her, how he felt, and that is heartbreaking.

My favourite moment between them, with any doubt, is this:

For those who say that Juvia is a stalker, this is the prove she's not. When Juvia fought Keyes and defeated him, she didn't want to kill him because she knew that she'd kill Silver. She didn't want to see Gray suffering. And she was willing to give up her love for Gray because she believed that she'd hurt so hard. Would a stalker do this?

The way Gray hug her is simply beautiful. The only thing he needed at that moment was Juvia comforting him.

One thing these two made me realize is that we usually overvalue the words "I love you". Love isn't shown only with these words, but with actions and another kind of expressions too.

And does that mean that Gray doesn't love Juvia? Of course not, but he tells her in another ways.

But she's pacient and knows that Gray needs time to be with her.

Besides, their hilarious dynamic is amazing.
