Heaven Officialâs Blessing Ep 1 ⪠First meetings - Then and Now
nothing frustrates me more than when adults refuse to even slightly indulge the questions and thoughts of children. i remember one time when one of my younger cousins accidentally stumbled across the concept of purchasing power parity because she realised 10 rupees which bought her 10 candies in India only bought her ~3 candies when we went on holiday to Japan, and when she asked her mother about âwhy the same things cost different amounts in different placesâ my aunt had the audacity to call her spoiled for not understanding the ââworthâ of money, thatâs not what she was ASKING damn it!! your daughter just set up her own big mac index and realised a key metric of macroeconomics!!! how do you not find that utterly fascinating !! why donât adults talk to children !!
i just remembered this is the same young girl who discovered solipsism right before my eyesâ she and i decided to go on a zipline together, but iâm slightly scared of heights, so i naturally didnât enjoy it as much as she did (she LOVED it). once we got off she, still giggling and giddy, said something along the lines of âiâll never feel the fear you just felt because iâm not scared of heights, and you will never know the happiness that i feel right now.â then she kind of just stood there quietly for a bit and said âwow, itâs crazy that iâll only ever just be me.â and then she just⌠trotted off⌠to ride the zipline again, as if she hadnât just realised and calmly accepted something that throws me into an existential crisis every time i think about it.
i want to peg his heart đâ¤
all my friends are funnier than me n im sick of it
Nobody ever talk to me about the catholics going off with stained glass again because not one window of jesus has ANYTHING on the Nasir al-Mulk Mosque
Click through this link iâm losing my mind its gorgeous
i absolutely love seeing peopleâs reactions to the pink mosque đ
the style is called âorsiâ and is unique to iran
and stained glass traces its roots to south west and west asia, developed in ancient times and well before the europeans and the roman empire saw it and said âhey i like that, iâll be leaving with itâ
and while weâre talking about mosques in iran, may i present persian mirror work?
yes, these are real places! itâs a different mosque in the same city as the first picture (the shah cheragh mosque in shiraz)
every time someone tries to talk to me about western churches and architecture and their superiority to that of âthird world countriesâ i have to laugh a little at the ignorance, especially when our mosques look like this
sorry for not responding i just dont have the mental capacity to hold a conversation anymore

Once the children were asleep, Sajjad headed out on an urgent shopping mission. âWe are Muslims and weâd never had a Christmas tree in our home. But these children were Christian and we wanted them to feel connected to their culture.â
The couple worked until the early hours putting the tree up and wrapping presents. The first thing the children saw the next morning was the tree.
âI had never seen that kind of extra happiness and excitement on a childâs face.â The children were meant to stay for two weeks â seven years later two of the three siblings are still living with them.

this is a beautiful article and i just want to include a few other highlights from the above family as well as another profiled:
âŚshe focuses on the positives â in particular how fostering has given her and Sajjad an insight into a world that had been so unfamiliar. âWe have learned so much about English culture and religion,â Sajjad says. Riffat would read Bible stories to the children at night and took the girls to church on Sundays. âWhen I read about Christianity, I donât think there is much difference,â she says. âIt all comes from God.â
The girls, 15 and 12, have also introduced Riffat and Sajjad to the world of after-school ballet, theatre classes and going to pop concerts. âI wouldnât see many Asian parents at those places,â she says. âBut I now tell my extended family you should involve your children in these activities because it is good for their confidence.â Having the girls in her life has also made Riffat reflect on her own childhood. âI had never spent even an hour outside my home without my siblings or parents until my wedding day,â she says.
Just as Riffat and Sajjad have learned about Christianity, the girls have come to look forward to Eid and the traditions of henna. âIâve taught them how to make potato curry, pakoras and samosas,â Riffat says. âBut their spice levels are not quite the same as ours yet.â The girls can also sing Bollywood songs and speak Urdu.
âI now look forward to going home. I have two girls and my wife waiting,â says Sajjad. âItâs been such a blessing for me,â adds Riffat. âIt fulfilled the maternal gap.â

Shareenâs longest foster placement arrived three years ago: a boy from Syria. âHe was 14 and had hidden inside a lorry all the way from Syria,â she says. The boy was deeply traumatised. They had to communicate via Google Translate; Shareen later learned Arabic and he picked up English within six months. She read up on Syria and the political situation there to get an insight into the conditions he had left.
âIt took ages to gain his trust,â she says. âI got a picture dictionary that showed English and Arabic words and I remember one time when I pronounced an Arabic word wrong and he burst out laughing and told me I was saying it wrong â that was the breakthrough.â
The boy would run home from school and whenever they went shopping in town, he kept asking Shareen when they were going back home. She found out why: âHe told me that one day he left his house in Syria and when he had come back, there was no house.â Now heâs 18, speaks English fluently and is applying for apprenticeships. He could move out of Shareenâs home, but has decided to stay. âHe is a very different person to the boy who first came here,â she says, âand my relationship with him is that of a mother to her son.â
What a beautifully loving family.
On the lead up to October, have some vampsÂ
Donât worry theyâre safe (and grounded).
Thank god thank god
