In the manga, Kurutan's excitement was much more low key. She was also giddy thinking more of the money they'd make monopolizing the model as well as the money Ran could make from the potential higher paying work her new body could get her.

The anime meanwhile made her outright THIRSTY for her two GFs and the limitless sex stuff they could now do thanks to the specific body model both her partners had.

It's funny how the anime made the threesome scene more Teen+ over being outright hentai, yet made one of the characters way more of a freak. 😅

Watched two episodes of Ghost In The Shell 2026. Was not expecting the virtual lesbian threesome in episode 2. Good for Motoko. Not sure what I think of the show yet, but I like the animation and Motoko has a cool character design. Are they going to explain what a ghost is at some point? They keep mentioning it

Your Ghost is your consciousness, essentially the closest thing they have to proof of a soul's existence. When the Major talks of her Ghost whispering to her, she's talking about the voice of her conscience. Hence the title: A human mind, in a fully cyberized body like Motoko's or an almost implant-free body like Togusa's or Chief Aramaki's, is just a ghost inhabiting a shell. As for "the ghost in the machine"... that would be telling.

Well i watched every ghost in the shell episode available. I think I liked it. I really like the animation and especially Motoko's character design. Looks cool. Though I feel like it kind of doesn't introduce the world of the show super well. Was a little confusing. I don't feel super invested in the show yet, but its only been 3 episodes. I'll give it a couple more episodes as it comes out

Honestly, the manga is equally sudden in its start. Masamune Shirow gives about two paragraphs of scene setting and exposition on page one, then drops you right into the action in medias res. It's like being thrown into a cold swimming pool. William Gibson's Neuromancer did the same thing -- he hits you with a bunch of unfamiliar terms and ideas and then waits for you to figure it all out from the context. At least Shirow sticks those footnotes in every three or four pages just to keep you up to speed.

Regarding some of the discourse I've seen about whether it's appropriate that Motoko seems to be a bottom: I have it on good authority that a lot of hypercompetent and powerful people turn extremely subby when they're in private. They have a serious psychological need to turn it all off and temporarily stop being That Person. When she's with her friends and away from her job, she can leave off being the Major and just be Motoko for a while... at least until Batou and Aramaki call her back in.

(Also note: In the manga, these three have a profitable sideline recording and selling these VR sessions, so Masamune Shirow damn near predicted OnlyFans in 1989.)

The Major being a sub is not at all odd to me, all things considered, but I think the craziest thing that Shirow casually revealed in footnotes (and goes into exhaustive detail into the mechanics of) is that she, a high-ranking commanding officer in a top secret government spec-ops unit that handles all manner of cybercrime and political terrorism on a daily basis, dabbles in lesbian porn as a side hustle.

I don't know what Shirow is on, but clearly he's a visionary for predicting that as a lucrative line of work these days. Or maybe he was just horny. An equally valid explanation.
