I do love that in general, I've heard it before!

The reason that wasn't what popped into my mind is that it didn't convey the urgency of the situation.

Like, sure, you can pick the bus that takes you closest to you destination, you can - theoretically - also just decide to not go out...

But if your house is burning? You don't have the luxury not to take the helping hand offered to you, even if said hand is attached to a person you find off putting. Especially if you know your family and everyone you love is also in the house behind you.

Because something else I didn't mention in the post, that was fucking essential to get these results, is that there was record voter turnout in the election, and that was largely and very importantly due to young voters. Not voting was only an option as willingly burning alive would be an option.
