The Tennessee Valley Authority Killed All My Sheep Somehow
Donât forget that old standby âThe Mine Collapsed and Everyone Diedâ!
I think someone needs to put in a word for the English folk tradition though:
I Met a Girl and We Went Hunting (It Was a Metaphor for Sex)
I Met a Girl and We Caught Some Birds (It Was a Metaphor for Sex)
I Met a Girl and We Found Her Lost Pet (It Was a Metaphor for Sex)

Begging Is a Completely Viable Career Option With Flexible Hours and Unlimited Access to Alcohol
OH GOD HELP ME I AM LAUGHING SO HARD I CANNOT BREATHE
(plus I know every variant of each and every one of these songs and Iâll send you the links if you want)
I once tried to write a folk song which was all folk songs. I see now I was not trying hard enoughâŚ
Fearless Cat Keeps Returning to the London Supermarket Heâs Banned From

I CANT STOP LAUGHING
this will always be my favorite
The day I donât reblog this is the day I have lost all sense of humour.
If i donât reblog this assume Iâm dead.
my favourite thing is probably the scientific name of the Grizzly bear.Â
Itâs Ursus arctos horribilis. âursusâ meaning bear in Latin and âarctosâ, bear in Greek.
so essentially a grizzly is a âhorrible bear bear.âÂ
The Eurasian Brown Bear is Ursus arctos arctos
So literally âBear Bear Bearâ. The most bear a bear can be.Â
So bear. Much roar. Wow.
Also! The Arctic Circle is named for the bears, not the other way âround. Itâs the Circle With Bears In, and the Antarctic is the Circle (and continent) Away From Bears.
Are you telling us that the poles of our world are Bear Continent and Anti-Bear Continent

A lot of pets will ignore you, but only a cat will follow you from room to room and check your lines of vision to make absolutely certain that you can see them ignoring you.
fun fact: cats actually have very good peripheral vision and do a lot of checking things out with it. full-frontal staring into your face is, for them, an aggressive statement. hence they do that a lot when theyâre trying to make you do stuff, like feed them or play with them.
if a cat sits with you but at an angle and wonât meet your gaze, theyâre not ignoring you at all! theyâre hanging out. theyâre having chill bro time.Â
if you want to smile at your cat, look at them till they see you, then give a slow blink. this is a cat smile. if a cat only glances at you to give you a blink and then looks away, that is a warm greeting, like, âhey there, buddyâ. be polite right back at them and donât seek out or hold sustained eye-contact in friendly, casual situations.Â
this is great because I know how to let my cat know iâm happy but imagine if one day your cat made eye contact with you and grinned like a person
Before the computing era, ILM was the master of oil matte painting, making audiences believe that some of the sets in the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogy were real when they werenât. They were the work of geniuses like Chris Evans, Michael Pangrazio, Frank Ordaz, Harrison Ellenshaw and Ralph McQuarrie ! Forever thank you, to their handmade art and the work of their colleagues, that made us dream of impossible worlds and fantastic places across Earth and the Universe.
There are more background paintings on this article, featuring comments by the masters/artists themselves !Â
Some of the following pieces were made by other artists:

The more time I spend learning ASL the more frustrated I get that, at the very least, fingerspelling and a few basic signs arenât common knowledge.Â
I mean, even if you donât care about learning it in order to communicate with people who use it as their primary language, itâs just such a practical supplement to spoken language in every day life
Honestly, more and more I find myself in situations where Iâm going âTHIS WOULD BE SO MUCH EASIER IF I WASNâT THE ONLY PERSON IN THIS BUILDING WHO KNEW EVEN A LITTLE BIT OF SIGN LANGUAGEâ. Iâve wished I could just sign the name of the customer Iâm talking to at one of my coworkers, or ask âWhereâs ________?â to someone on the phone, or say something to someone across the room whoâs testing a sound system and wonât be able to hear me even if I scream it, or sign a part number with lots of similar-sounding letters so I donât have to clarify it five times and then just write it down anyway because itâs still wrong.
And just about everyone at some point is going to experience some degree of hearing loss, so it only makes sense to teach sign language from the beginning. Itâs frustrating now to see people (including my grandmother) who struggle to hear what Iâm saying, because hearing aids arenât perfect, and they donât even have the option of switching to sign because they never learned it, and nobody ever presents it as an option instead of/as well as hearing aids.
And Iâm just here now going, if Iâm frustrated by the fact that I canât use it as a secondary form of communication when itâs inconvenient to speak, I canât even imagine what itâs like for those of you out there for whom itâs your first/primary language. And Iâve seen first hand how ignorant and awful people can be on top of that, I would be so angry at people all the time honestly.

Are you fucking kidding me? Like, no, Shakespeare wouldnât tweet a sonnet cause 140 characters is a bit short for that. Wrong medium. But you know what he would have? A very active twitter FULL OF DICK PUNS AND YOUR MOM JOKES okay. (And probably also a blog for the sonnets and longer works, that cross-posts links to twitter anyway.)
Get out of here with that pretentious anti-technology bullshit.
Heâd rock the fuck out of memes. Donât deny it.
Exit, pursued by a doge. much run wowÂ
I donât understand people who try to make Shakespeare into a pretentious thing cause he was basically an uneducated dick-joke making dude for the common masses. His historical plays are straight up fanfiction. Thereâs a scene in Macbeth where two guards are having a conversation as a dude pees on a wall. Get out of here with your Shakespeare snobbery.
ALL OF THIS
Also, the comment âExit, pursued by a dogeâ alone makes this worth reblogging :D
Heck, the line thatâs based on, âExit, pursued by bearâ, only exists because Shakespeare couldnât think of any other way to get rid of the character, so opted to have him attacked by a bear, which did not exist in the play before that moment.
He literally made a bear appear out of thin air, just to kill off a character, purely due to writerâs block.
âAnd then the bear gets himâ
ââŚ
âŚ
The
The bear?â
âYes the bearâ
âWill
Will there isnât a bear in this play
Where did the bear come fromâ
âA PLACE
And he exits the play pursued by it
Itâs happening make me a bear costumeâ
âitâs happening make me a bear costumeâ lmao
Shakespeare even wrote Yo Mama jokes, like this delight from Titus Andronicus.
CHIRON: Thou has undone our mother. AARON: Villain, I have done thy mother.
Bladeless wind turbines generate electricity by shaking, not spinning
Scientists hope to hugely reduce the cost of wind energy by removing the blades from wind farms, instead taking advantage of a special phenomenon to cause the turbines to violently shake.
Vortex, a startup from Spain, has developed the tall sticks known as Bladeless â white poles jutting out of the ground, that are built so that they can oscillate. They do so as a result of the way that the wind is whipped up around them, using a phenomenon that architects avoid happening to buildings and encouraging it so that the sticks shake.
They do so using vortices, which is where the company gets its name from. The bladeless turbines use special magnets to ensure that the turbines are optimised to shake the most they can, whatever speed the wind is travelling at.
As the sticks vibrate, that movement is converted into electricity by an alternator.
Wiggling Poles of the Wasteland Harvest Electricity For Power Hungry Humans
These also look like they would cause fewer problems for birds and bats.
This is really cool.
They leave off the important note that when the wind rises, each pole makes a sound like a hundred vuvuzelas roaring at once. In the post-apocalyptic world of the future, villagers will speak in hushed tones about the Roaring Plains, and caution adventurous travelers to stay well away.Â
I appreciate how they essentially invented very useful yet alien-looking screaming pillars. Science continues to make some suspiciously sci-fi shit.
Idris Elba Front-runner To Play Roland Deschain In âThe Dark Towerâ
âSony Pictures and Media Rights Capital may just have found their lead gunslinger for The Dark Tower, the Stephen King novel series set in a world woven with magic and revolving around the gunslinger Roland Deschain.Â
Iâm told that Idris Elba has emerged as the front-runner to play Deschain. He would square off against Matthew McConaughey, whoâs in talks to play the villainous Man in Black. Nikolaj Arcel is directingâŚ
Sony will distribute what is planned to be the first in a series of Dark Tower movies. A complementary TV series is also being developed by MRCâŚ.â
Keep reading at deadline
The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-Worldâs last gunslinger, who is traveling southeast across Mid-Worldâs post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower. Located in the fey region of End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is the nexus point of the time-space continuum. It is the heart of all worlds, but it is also under threat. Someone, or something, is using the evil technology of the Great Old Ones to destroy it.
In Rolandâs where and when, the world has already begun to move on. Time and direction are in drift, and the fabric of reality is fraying. However, things are about to get much worse.

I <3 William Shatner on Twitter
I love how they respond to him, as if he is actually a captain, even more.
Nasa confirmed for huge fucking nerds
This is awesome and priceless and people that work on space stuff are the best people of all time.
Honestly this just about brings me to tears.
Roddenberry, Shatner, Nimoy, Nichols and all the rest of the original Star Trek cast and crew had no small role in making the moon landing as important as it was. A few years before they set that lunar module down, this little TV show came along and fanned the dream into wildfire with an image of what humanity in space could actually look likeânot only peaceful on our own world, endlessly curious, and prosperous enough to pursue it, but an active force for good in the greater universe. Carrying not whatâs most toxic about us, but whatâs best about us out to the stars.
Everybody who has worked at NASA or any other space agency for the past 50 years is waiting for the day when that unmanned probe doing a flyby on a comet can be controlled from the bridge of a space-faring vessel. When weâre not just looking at that comet through a color-coded sonar map, but we can look out a porthole and see it tumbling by with our own eyes. When as a species we can finally outgrow hate and fear and violence, and turn our faces with joy toward all the beauties and wonders that lie waiting to be discovered.
And every time he does this, Shatner is reminding them of what that hope feels like.
The New York Times ran its first front page editorial in 95 years. Itâs about Americaâs gun problem. A conservative blogger shot at it.
