I just wrote an email extending an invitation to the instructor of an art history course on the high Italian Renaissance to bring her class in for an instructional session and I am pretty sure I sounded like a basically normal person in it
secret organizations for studying paranormal phenomena are always calling the creatures they find like "specimen 58008" or some fake latin taxonomy or something vague and ominous like "the red angel" or whatever and thats all well and good but i want a story about a bunch of cryptozoologists going around naming things the way people name like actual birds and lizards and shit.
i want to get lost in the woods and meet the ring-tailed tree creeper and roger's false elk. i want a character who is desperate to prove this monster is actually a distinct species from that very similar looking monster so they can name it after themself. i want two field researchers narrowly escaping an encounter with some ten foot tall thing made of carnivorous vines and one of them is like wow wait til the guys back at the lab hear we got that close to a lesser thorn-backed bone eater 🙂 and the other scientist is like.,...... 😰lesser?
thank you for appreciating my boobs calculator joke but the real overlooked gem of this post is rogers false elk. basically this entire post was just an excuse to come up with a hypothetical monster called rogers false elk. its just so pleasing to me. does nobody care him? does nobody but me care for rogers false elk?
I think uncial might be my new favorite script to write

when i forget to log into ao3 and i have to click proceed to see an adult fic, i actually get a kick out of it. like i am an old timey queen and my bard is apologetic: “gentle lady, dicks doth touch in this next ballad. would you prefer another?” and i give him a gesture of command like, “nay, you may proceed, minstrel. bring forth the tale of dicks”
hope it’s not too late; I made this in Scriptorium
Eurydice was a hungry young girl A runaway from everywhere she'd ever been
In some ways, I’m still processing Fright Night, and thinking about the character of Peter Vincent. One way in which he is different from his inspiration, Perter Cushing, is his reaction. If Cushing were asked to kill a vampire, I’m pretty sure he’d say “I’m sorry, but I’m an actor- I don’t go around killing people.” Then he’d pause. "But…I know someone who does.“
Cut to the phone ringing in the Lee residence. "Hello, Christopher? It’s Peter. I have a favor to ask of you…”
I am at the opera for the last time this season (Saint-Saëns, Samson et Dalila) and this venue has a lot of issues (many stairs, inadequate bathrooms, poor climate control) but it is a really, really good place to take selfies if you have the right seats.

This is from a passage on the contradictions in Vittoria Colonna's life and while every human who has ever lived can be described as "full of contradictions" because people are complicated, I feel like this particular contrast is less contradictory when you take into account that her relationship with her husband was tumultuous (arranged marriage; she caught feelings early on; he didn't and was a huge dick about it; she was devastated by his premature death anyway) and that her other two most profound bonds with men were with celibate gay men. Honestly I think that is a pretty cohesive (and relatable) behavior pattern.
tried piggybacking on this post but caroline minuscule looks really wrong in English, you guys

Bought a couple of books on writing medieval scripts and decided to try a nice Caroline minuscule. If you look closely you can spot where I figured out the correct angle for holding the pen.
(It was a modern calligraphy pen. I'm getting some quills for work but we don't have them yet.)
