This is from a passage on the contradictions in Vittoria Colonna's life and while every human who has ever lived can be described as "full of contradictions" because people are complicated, I feel like this particular contrast is less contradictory when you take into account that her relationship with her husband was tumultuous (arranged marriage; she caught feelings early on; he didn't and was a huge dick about it; she was devastated by his premature death anyway) and that her other two most profound bonds with men were with celibate gay men. Honestly I think that is a pretty cohesive (and relatable) behavior pattern.

Bought a couple of books on writing medieval scripts and decided to try a nice Caroline minuscule. If you look closely you can spot where I figured out the correct angle for holding the pen.

(It was a modern calligraphy pen. I'm getting some quills for work but we don't have them yet.)

One thing about writing historical fiction/rpf is that, especially if it's set reasonably far back in time, characterizing historical figures has a lot of the same energy as creating OCs. But you look like a complete tosser if you do the OC memes

the best analogy imo for ocd is mosquito bite. its so itchy its driving you crazy and you know scratching it will make it itch so much worse later but you need it to stop right now and scratching it feels so good and even when you dont want to scratch it and you feel like you could handle the itch you cant even stop your hand from scratching the second you stop focusing on not scratching. except ☝️ what if it was inside your brain and instead of an itch it was terrifying overwhelming distress
