Every time he listens to her sing, Jesse imagines that’s what it must be like to watch a star bursting to life.  A supernova splitting open it’s own little spot in a sea of pitch black where it can gleam and glisten forever.  Of course, he hasn’t told her that.  Not in those exact words.  Not yet, anyway.  Because once you start talking in terms of how you feel verses how you think?  Things go from black and white to gray and where he’s usually good at navigating his way across territory like that?  He thrives in it, actually.  So far?  He hasn’t quite figured out how to maneuver through Rachel Berry’s brand of gray because it comes in about a thousand variations he’s never quite seen yet.  

Keep a clear head.  Because the idea of hurting her is suffocating and he knows everyone thinks he will.  They’re betting on it.  Waiting for it.  But none of them understand people like him.  Like her.  Because they aren’t wired the same.  Hurting her in the beginning?  Before their currents crossed?  Jesse might’ve done it without a thought.  He likes to think of himself as a good person.  Or a neutral one.  But there’s no mercy to be had in winning and he’s been spoon fed that dogma before he could say his A,B,Cs.  Now though?  When she looks in his eyes and he knows that song is for him?  Barely breathing never felt so good and he doesn’t know what to do anymore.  Is it good?  Is it bad?   Both.  It’s both and he doesn’t care.

A shower and a shave later?  Perched on a barstool was his late night forte.  At least the air was cold, the drinks were strong.  He stayed until the bar closed down at three.  Grumbling, he started to walk back home when he had a better idea.  Mainly, a certain someone two blocks in the opposite direction.

Paint fumes and a pretty face.  What more could he ask for?  Air conditioning, but let’s not point that out.  Jesse’s brow cocked up, a vaguely buzzed smile followed. He was even more intrigued that his lack of texting before swinging by at an ungody hour was overlooked. Thankfully, Remy’s saying he was up all hours of the night wasn’t an exaggeration.  “Oh?  If you were only that lucky,” he smirked teasingly as fingertips toyed with a paintbrush laying next to a bowl of smoky blue.  “What are you working on?  Show me.  Maybe I had a sudden urge for a three o’clock in the morning private showing,” his tone practically dripped with the grin on his lips.
