There was too much to focus on here and as much as Matt wanted to play back and keep their back and forth going he just…couldn’t. Blaine Anderson, someone he didn’t think would ever, EVER actually kiss him back and with as much of a need of him was doing that at that very moment and Matt took a fraction of a second to let it sink in before his hold tightened on him. 

For years he wanted this and he understood Blaine’s hesitation to allow it to happen. Matt was off fucking around with just about everyone and coming across as some type of player. And..well, maybe he was. Maybe all it took was finally getting the one person he truly wanted to feel the same way back; to know that they weren’t utterly repulsed by his past and the type of man he is deep down. That Blaine has seen through all the bullshit and still, while drunk, married him. That that had to count for something.

Fuck, was he smiling while Blaine kissed him? Hard not to when they had a couple beats in between for him to have enough time to do so. Matt’s hand went to the back of Blaine’s head and brought him back down, mostly to show that there was no way in hell he was stopping. No way. He waited too many years for this, though Matt did leave it all up to Blaine to take control of things because he wanted to feel everything from him. Every kiss. Every touch. Every soft moan. He wanted it all.

Eventually Blaine had to resurface for air – he’d gotten carried away, to say the least, especially since Matt didn’t seem to be in any hurry to discourage him from testing his limits. Dimly he realized just how much of a compromising position he’d gotten himself into – curled on top of Matt, boxing him in and invading his personal space in more ways than one, as if he could fuse the two of them together to avoid having to deal with any awkward fall-out from whatever what currently happening. He tipped his forehead against Matt’s and squeezed his eyes shut as he struggled to catch his breath, because if he could actually see the huge grin he could sense on Matt’s face, all of his courage might just up and desert him in the face of their friendship’s biggest, smuggest ‘I told you so’.

He’d known that they understood each other, despite their constant bickering and winding each other up. He’d known that they’d drop the teasing in a heartbeat if one of them really needed the other, and that he’d take a bullet for Matt without hesitation. He’d known that Matt was an attractive guy, and that on at least some level he found Blaine attractive, as well. But he hadn’t expected the sparks between them to be practically incendiary – or maybe he’d just been far enough in denial that he’d ignored all the signs.

Regardless, Matt didn’t even have to say anything, not with that grin on his face, and Blaine huffed a quiet, rough-voiced, “…You shut up,” at him before curling himself against Matt’s shoulder. He was a complete cuddle monster anyway, which Matt knew perfectly well, and as long as his face was tucked in close against Matt’s neck, nose idly brushing the fluttering pulse point at the side of his throat, then maybe he wouldn’t be able to see just how fiercely Blaine was blushing.

Now that Blaine started to pick up all of those things Matt said to him over the years wasn’t just flirty bullshit, but legit come ons and interests; Matt didn’t bother holding back anymore. His hands, touching Blaine in ways he always wanted, continued their soothing path, traveling up and down his back while Blaine joked with him. They could have been doing this years ago…But that didn’t matter because Matt viewed it as something both of them needed to go through; to build a solid foundation for them. It was one that started as friendship and he for it to ease to something more may take time. That it’ll mostly be on Blaine’s end but Matt was in no hurry to rush. That that video showed they did far more than either of them have done with each other, but he’d wait for Blaine to be ready to go there. 

Besides, kissing and touching him; plus having him on his body like this….it was really, really nice.

“No shit you’re getting me a tiara. I’ll wear it everywhere. At home, the grocery store. When we visit your parents. Everyone will address me as Princess Matthew. Or I can go with a crown and by by Queen Matthew…” He said, thinking about this. “No. Princess. I like the sound of that better. And come on, man! I’ll put the rhinestones on your chest.” His fingers went down to Blaine’s sides and started to tease the hem of his shirt; tugging at it to pull up some. “I don’t know what we can spell with it because there might not be enough for a coherent word.” Matt poked Blaine’s side a the last comment he made, “Of course you can pull off bling. That’s what makes both of us so fabulous.”

Matt leaned up, smoothing his hands back to where they’ve been and he pressed them against Blaine’s shoulders to bring him to him. They had a lot of talking and figuring out to do but all Matt could think about was kissing him. That they went years and years of going back and forth; bickering until everyone’s ears around them bled. And, as soon as Blaine’s lips were back on him, Matt kept him there for as long as he could. He knew they couldn’t stay in this bed forever. He knew they had to figure out if friends and family were alerted of their surprise wedding. He knew he would have to prove to him that this wedding is exactly what he wanted. But, for right now, kissing his best friend, his husband, felt right.

“We’ll get all of it figured out…” came a whisper against Blaine’s lips, Matt kissing the again. “Let’s just enjoy this time we have together in this room. Then, after we check out, we can go all Nancy Drew on this thing.”

Blaine’s shoulders shook with suppressed laughter as Matt explained just how he was going to show off his birthday tiara. It was probably sad that Blaine absolutely believed he would do every single one of those things, even if he had to bite his lip picturing his dad’s face at witnessing Matt’s ridiculousness firsthand. “I’m not curtsying to you, Princess Matthew,” Blaine said firmly, a smile still tugging at the corner of his lips. “The best you’re going to get out of me is a jaunty salute.” He laughed outright at Matt’s fingers creeping under his shirt, though, and jerked slightly as those fingers poked into his (ticklish) side. “I didn’t say I can’t pull bling off at all – just not as well as you, your highness,” he smirked.

It had to be a conscious decision on Blaine’s part, since it was an ingrained habit by now to deflect and evade any time Matt hit on him – but after the initial tensing of his entire body, a painfully obvious hesitation that lasted a heartbeat too long, Blaine let himself relax and fall into the kiss, tension bleeding from his shoulders as he actually let himself enjoy it. Even with Matt’s arms locked around him, he could pull away at any point – break the kiss and catch his breath, or try to put just a few inches between them until he wasn’t quite so dizzy.

“That almost sounded like a proposition, Davidson,” Blaine murmured between kisses – and just how long had their bickering sounded so much like flirting, anyway? “And you know how I feel about escape rooms and puzzles, that’s cheating.”

Instead of pulling away, he planted both arms on either side of Matt’s head and leaned into it, sucking lightly at Matt’s lower lip as he deepened the kiss into something a little more aggressive. He might not be able to affect Matt half as much as those soft, lazy kisses affected him, but he was damn well going to try, at least.

Given Matt rolled Blaine atop of him, this gave the man opportunity to get off him at any point. Shit, he could right now if he wanted but that didn’t happen. In fact, with how it felt right now, it was as if Blaine happened to enjoy being on him. Touching him. Being such a way that they’ve never experienced before. Matt wanted to tease and joke, to have Blaine eye roll him to death; possibly incorporate a facepalm or two. But, for now, it was them talking while Matt continued to touch his thighs and Blaine bouncing from one emotion to the next. 

“I told that bride the tiara looked better on me and you know what. I was right. I don’t need pictures or video to prove how right I am because this head was made for anything crown-esque. But maybe I should look around the floor or even the bathroom to see if there are any rhinestones. I’ll stick them on you.” Matt’s fingers smoothed away from Blaine’s thighs and up his back. His fingers arched just enough to put pressure as his short nails skimmed downwards before moving back up again.

Matt felt happy. At peace. He knew they were thrown into one helluva situation here and maybe his ease with it was a little concerning and maybe he should be like Blaine and be worried about how things will go now. But Matt hadn’t felt this good about anything in a long while, which was saying a lot as he was King of Spontaneity. “I didn’t see any texts or notifications on my Messenger. So, I think we’re good when it comes to a live feed wedding. His fingers continued on that soothing path, trying to bring Blaine down from his worry. “Maybe the only people who know about this is you and me…” Matt’s eyes lowered to Blaine’s mouth a moment, taking his hand from his back to cup the man’s cheek. He caressed the corner of those lips with his thumb, being slow about it. “Want to brave getting on Facebook to see if we did a live thing or if one of us changed our relationship to married?” Maybe everyone was in too much shock to actually reach out to them…

“And don’t think I won’t bring up the dream wedding thing again. This whole Vegas thing is fine with me. Gets the job done, but you really, really, really, really, really (was that enough to prove his point?) deserve that wedding.”

Blaine’s head listed to one side as he blinked lazily at Matt, the fingers along his spine lulling him into a quiet, contented haze. Maybe he really was part puppy, and scratching his ears — or his back, in this case — released endorphins that he was helpless to shake off. Either way, it felt really good, and he couldn’t bring himself to make Matt stop.

He gave a huff of laughter at Matt’s insistence that he’d looked better than the actual bride, though — of course Matt would think that. “I know what to get you for your next birthday, then,” Blaine said with a ghost of a smile. “I don’t know where you’re thinking about sticking any stray rhinestones you might find, but I don’t think I can pull off the bling quite as well as you do,” he chuckled.

Blaine hadn’t noticed any messages on his own phone, either, but he’d been a little distracted by the photos — and that video! — to think about texting anyone else. “Checking Facebook means we have to get up,” he pointed out, wrinkling his nose.  He kind of liked the idea of only the two of them knowing about this, anyway — not because he was embarrassed, although it had been a shock, but because if they were going to do something this impulsive and crazy, he wanted a chance to get used to it on his own before anyone else decided to weigh in and tell them just how crazy they were being.

(Or to tell them it was about damn time — another possibility that Blaine was a little worried might crop up more than he’d anticipated.)

Blaine shivered slightly as Matt’s eyes shifted down to his mouth for a moment, and his own eyes slid closed as Matt caressed his face. This was dangerous — he could get used to this entirely too easily, and it would be so much harder to let it go, if he did. “I don’t really want to talk to anyone else right this minute,” he admitted in a hushed whisper. “Although at some point we probably should figure out where we went last night and call to see about video.”

Blaine’s eyes opened again at Matt’s insistence, and he blinked hazily as he tried to focus on something besides Matt’s hands. “That wedding can wait,” he murmured. “Until we know if this wedding was a good idea — or a not-so-good one.”

If Matt had to pick favorite moments in his life, Blaine usually ranked somewhere on the list. Whether it be conversation or them sending horribly photoshopped pictures of each other, all the way to the serious talks they have. This guy is his best friend, the person who knows him inside and out and hadn’t made a run for it. While he thought about that Matt realized that they had video of them kissing at the altar with that Elvis guy, but he doesn’t know if the chapel actual recorded the whole thing. And, knowing himself, if there was a chance to share his thoughts a very drunk him would have unloaded everything he felt for his best friend. All those thoughts and feelings, those worries. Which Blaine knew about 75% of but there was always that 25% he kept under lock and key.

Matt, smiling like a fucking lunatic by this point, savored the touches Blaine gave him. How there been times when he felt his friend’s fingers in his own hair but it was never like this. Matt wanted to lean back, put more pressure onto that touch but it would look weird with this angle. What he opted to do was move to roll onto his back and bring Blaine along for the ride. Not stopping until he was perched on top of him. 

Better.

“You know me, Blainerz, always the bad influence. Though I think last night it might have been that bachelorette party that did us in. If we go through our phones we’ll probably see the progression of the night leading up to that steamy video of us.” His hands were on Blaine’s thighs while he spoke, dragging his short nails down slowly. “I was thinking a few moments ago. No, not about you covering my mouth with that lotion. Which would look weird as fuck, but about the chapel. Do you think they recorded our ceremony? I want to see if we said vows to each other. We were both so drunk I can’t remember anything of it.” His fingers repeated that motion, Matt’s eyes on Blaines and looking like he’d won the lottery with how happy he is. “I want to give you that dream wedding.”

At some point, Blaine was going to realize that Matt seemed to get a kick out of surprising him. And in general, logically and in terms of their friendship, he knew this. That knowledge just apparently hadn’t get extended to this new aspect of their relationship just yet -- and oh god, it was a relationship, wasn’t it? Physical and at least nominally romantic, and that surprised him more than anything.

Which was exactly what made Matt grin at him like that, he was fairly certain.

Finding their positions flipped, with Blaine now sprawled gracelessly across Matt’s chest? Surprise.

The faint scrap of Matt’s fingernails against his thigh, a gesture that wasn’t even particularly erotic or scandalous, but still managed to make Blaine’s breath stutter? Surprise.

The way Matt beamed up at him, looking entirely pleased at the idea of video evidence of whatever insanity had gone down the previous evening, and the hopelessly cheesy cliches that had more than likely come out of Blaine’s mouth? Surprise.

“Those bachelorettes were terrible influences, this time,” he groaned. “Did the bride really offer to share her tiara with you? That might have been what started all this, you trying to justify the rhinestones spelling out ‘BRIDE TO BE’ across your forehead,” Blaine said dryly, hiding a grin of his own. 

He folded one hand across Matt’s chest and rested his chin on it, trying not to look hopelessly awkward (or turned on). “Don’t they usually have an option for videography? It depends on if we paid extra for it, I guess. Or for the option to stream the wedding live onli--” He cut himself off abruptly, his eyes widening. Surely they hadn’t ‘invited’ other people to witness that live over the internet. Surely they hadn’t been that drunk.

Then again, tequila.

Blaine swallowed with difficulty, and tried not to focus too hard on who else might have seen those suits. It took him a moment to register the last comment, and he locked eyes with Matt, visibly startled. His dream wedding -- not that he’d planned it -- would have been full of fun and music and friends and family and a groom that wanted more than anything to be there with Blaine. And Matt, knowing full well what a hopeless romantic Blaine was, had to know that.

Surprise.

Mat thought of this. A lot. He’d wonder how things would work between Blaine and himself if they actually went out on a few dates and realized they worked. He knew there’d be the back and forth, because that was absolutely them. He knew there would be a lot of affection between them because he knew that’s the kind of guy Blaine is. The thing was, Blaine didn’t know that much when it came to him other than Matt’s jackassery and that he had a knack of breaking down at the most random of times. 

“Ah,” he started and brought his mouth down to the side of Blaine’s throat. A glimpse from the night before flashed back to him as he pressed his lips to that delicate skin, feeling the prickles of his stubble poking his lips. “So you want me to make it up to you?” Matt returned his mouth to Blaine’s and loosened his grip on one hand. “There. I gave you that hand back.” But, now that his other hand was free he went to Blaine’s hair and ruffled it, grinning down at him.

“My taste and husbands is totally fine! You’re just over here feeling a little miffed because we actually went through with those amazing Dumb & Dumber tuxes. I told you we’d look good in them but you always fought me on it.” Matt wouldn’t be surprised if Blaine’s hand wound up pushing off his body after he said that. 

“John Anderson is the one who went for that dick joke. I can’t control that guy. But I think he’s got a killer sense of humor, don’t you?” He laughed and rolled his eyes even at himself with that one. “But…thanks. You know how I feel about being boring. It makes me break out in hives and I doubt you want to spend your free time slathering me in that pink goop to stop the itching.” Then, “Unless you’re into that…”

The low, guttural noise Blaine made in the back of his throat was borderline embarrassing, and he bit his lip as Matt’s mouth moved over his throat. Whoever told Matt about that little trick ought to be shot, and he conveniently ignored the fact that it was probably his own drunken self. As soon as his hand was free he buried it in the back of Matt’s hair out of pure reflex – but he wasn’t distracted enough yet to miss shooting him a dirty look for ruffling his own hair with that shit-eating grin on his dumb face. “You’re all heart,” he managed, and loosened his own grip with some difficulty. 

Matt knew perfectly well how much of a glutton for touch Blaine was, even physically affectionate (and a shameless hugger) with his friends – and all sense of personal space boundaries tended to evaporate when Blaine had been drinking, so that had probably been the first thing to go the night before.

He groaned in embarrassment at the reminder of the suits. “I’d been doing just fine blocking out that particular photo, thanks a lot,” Blaine groused. “Did you buy me tequila shots? My judgement is always questionable when there’s tequila involved, that’s the only way you could have gotten me into that powder blue monstrosity,” he added with a shudder.

He lifted one eyebrow at Matt, absently pulling his fingers through the back of his hair without conscious thought. “Unfortunately for you I’m pretty sure that marriage license doesn’t say ‘John Anderson’,” he pointed out. “So even if he has a killer sense of humor – which is questionable – I didn’t somehow sign up for being shackled to him.” He wrinkled his nose at the mental image. “I mean, it’s not a kink, if that’s what you’re implying, but I can’t say I wouldn’t get a small amount of fiendish glee out of covering that smirk of yours in calamine lotion.”

TEXT: That was a roller coaster of reaction texts. TEXT: But no, it’s not Matt. His name is Ryan, and he’s a Fwb, who I happen to have a lot of benefits with. I’ve never made him pancakes though. TEXT: Hey, I’m not inviting Matt anywhere, you wanna invite him though you can, and YOU can explain to everyone that he’s just an excited puppy.

Blaine: I’m a roller coaster of a person, what can I say? Blaine: I don’t think I know Ryan? Invite him for drinks one night, I’ll help you gauge if he’s Thanksgiving material. And I promise to make myself scarce afterwards, 😉 Blaine: I like to cook! And why shouldn’t I offer an overnight guest breakfast? It’s just being polite, not a marriage proposal. Blaine: Ohhhhhh no, let me rephrase: he’ll hit on my MOTHER, and then I’ll have to deal with tasteless ‘daddy’ jokes for the rest of the day. No THANK you, he can stay in his kennel.

TEXT: There’s 6 kinds of cheese, you know it’s a fancy wedding WHEN. TEXT: Trust me, it would if you were here, because if I’m close to tears… You would be too. TEXT: Because it’s my dad’s friend’s wedding, and he brought me along to show me off  🙄 I’ll see if I can sneak some away for you though, because you deserve it.

Blaine: ...Okay, six kinds of cheese is definitely sob worthy. If one of them has an unpronounceable French name – even better. Blaine: We could stand in the corner and be overcome by cheese and bacon together. Moral support. Blaine: Hey, you’re totally worth showing off, don’t eyeroll at that, missy. (Unless people are mistaking you for his DATE-date and not his daughter 🤢). Don’t risk grease stains on a nice bag though, I promise I’ll survive!

[ clay 📲>> gracie ] : I was about to tell you to put the SAD FACE away but I know that’s not lasting as soon as you get here. Then it’ll be a HAPPY FACE. [ clay 📲>> gracie ] : Why are we typing these out and not using actual emojis? [ clay 📲>> gracie ] : [address attached] [ clay 📲>> gracie ] : I’ll send the guys to lunch. Then we can be in the closet without any disturbances.

[ gracie 📲>> clay ] : ...I’ve completely and totally corrupted you with the emojis, haven’t I? [ gracie 📲>> clay ] : No more 😢😢😢 – only 😁😁😁 [ gracie 📲>> clay ] : I’m gonna get catcalled and winked at if I pass any of them on my way in, but I DON’T EVEN CARE, they’re just jealous. [ gracie 📲>> clay ] : (Of me, of course. Their boss is obviously an awesome kisser.)

“Wait. You’re shitting me, right? All these years I thought it was Everett and now I think you’re just saying Devon to fuck with me.” Matt knew Blaine was telling the truth but that didn’t stop that coy smirk from forming, or the fact he cocked his head to the side just enough to show Blaine he was only pulling his leg. Matt’s hands kept on his wrists and he moved down slowly, pushing them further up on the bed until his mouth was against his. 

Oh, this was going to fun. 

There was nothing holding him back now from teasing or joking or doing all those things that he and Blaine been doing all these years, but now he can actually kiss him and touch him in that way he’s longed to do since the beginning. Matt’s lips, still close enough for Blaine to reach with his own if he wanted, smiled as he whispered. “It’s like you don’t even know me, Blainerz. Of course I want to be married to that guy.”

“Also, what makes you think DavAnderson will always be in trouble? We, the both of us, can do some good in the community and people will want to give us a plaque. Something that says we’re the best they’ve seen in over a thousand years. Maybe gift us the key to the city and slap our name on a firehouse. It’d be beautiful. But, if you insist, then we’ll just change your name to Devon Davidson, double D it. And I’ll be John Anderson.” What was he even saying at this point? He lost track. 

Again.

With a little disgruntled pout, Blaine narrowed his eyes at Matt, ignoring the way his breath hitched at how close he was. “You didn’t know my middle name. I think you’re required by law to make it up to me,” he said with a derisive sniff. The teasing wasn’t new. The poking at each other and harmless touching wasn’t new. The undercurrent of sexual tension underneath it all, though -- well, that wasn’t new either, not really, but they’d never really acknowledged it before. Or Blaine hadn’t, at least not openly.

The kisses were definitely new, though.

“I’m starting to question your taste in husbands,” Blaine huffed. He let himself sink into the mattress, loose and pliant under Matt’s weight. With his hands pinned down, he couldn’t reach up and tangle his fingers in the back of Matt’s hair, and he stubbornly refused to chase Matt’s mouth with his own. “I didn’t think you had terrible taste in men, Matthew -- I thought that was usually my area of expertise.”

Blaine tilted his head suspiciously. “But I’m pretty sure that ‘double D’ crack is a dick joke, at least coming from you,” he said, his voice vaguely accusing. “And you will NOT be John Anderson. John Anderson sounds boring, and you are many, many questionable things, and not a single one of them is boring.”

Matt felt a long, long breathe free itself from his lungs after Blaine spoke. When it came to him there was no telling what was going through his head but Matt knew the gears were hard at work, and probably on the verge of a potential short circuit, one that was related to some stupid joke or elaborate idiotic story about something absolutely ridiculous. The type of ridiculous that always had Blaine playing along in some way, even when they needed to be serious about something. 

And, this time, it was Blaine who brought them in with a joke and Matt’s fingers curled tighter around his, tugging at his husbands hand to bring it to his lips. Wow. Husband. That will take some getting used to. He figured they’d go through a number of nicknames if they ever dated but they just skyrocketed past all of that and now here they were; best friends who were married with an Elvis impersonator that looked a lot like Jon Lovitz instead of the King himself.

“Hey now. As long as it’s a little bit then I’ll absolutely take that. And no duh you’re not hyphenating. You’re a Davidson now. Blaine I actually can’t remember your middle name and think it might be Everett Davidson. I think that rolls off the tongue just fine.” He said, moving to poke Blaine in the side with his free hand before pushing him back down on the bed. 

Matt rolled on top of him, moving his hands up Blaine’s sides before pressing them onto the bed on either side of his head. He looked at him for a few moments, taking this in before chuckling to himself. “This will take some getting used to, won’t it?” He asked as he lowered carefully and kissed his lips again. “But I’m fine with that. It’s a new DavAnderson adventure, right?” Matt paused and said. “That can be our name. We get rid of Matt and Blaine and just go by DavAnderson. The both of us. It’ll get confusing as hell but we’ll be the only people on the planet to share a name.”

Blaine groaned even as he fell back against the bed, and made a face at Matt. “Everett? Everett? Seriously, we’ve known each other for more than a decade and you don’t even remember my middle name?” He shot Matt a mock glare through his eyelashes. “It’s Devon. And c’mon, Blaine Devon Davidson? That guy sounds like a douche. Think this through, Matt, you’re the one who has to be married to that guy.”

He couldn’t suppress a little shiver of awareness as Matt pinned him down, though, and he bit his lip as he blinked up at him in surprise, his eyes darkening a shade or two. Apparently he was into that – who knew? “It’ll take a lot of getting used to,” he admitted, his voice a bit softer than usual. “I’m not sharing a name with you, though.  When the cops come looking for some idiot who goes by ‘DavAnderson’ for disorderly conduct and generally being a public nuisance, I’m not taking the fall for you. I’ll post bail, since I’m legally obliged to do that sort of thing now – but your criminal record is entirely your own.”

[ matt 📲>> blaine ] : So…..we got kicked out. I still don’t get what the big deal is. We’re at a party. Crazy in Love comes on. Other people are dancing and having a good time but I just happened to get a LITTLE too excited during the song. Then I lost it at Single Ladies and your ass was within slapping range.  [ matt 📲>> blaine ] : and how daaaaaaaaaaare you say my Beyonce is questionable. It’s spot on! [ matt 📲>> blaine ] : I feel like I get told this about once every few months. It’s starting to make me think you want me to tone it done with it comes to King B.

[ blaine 📲>> idiot husband ] : Yeah, well, if fuzzy memories serve me correctly, there was twerking involved. So not ENTIRELY your fault. 🤦🏻‍♂️

[ blaine 📲>> idiot husband ] : The hair flips don’t work if you don’t have long hair, Matt. Although your commitment is still pretty commendable.

[ blaine 📲>> idiot husband ] : …I know you well enough that I’m not entirely sure I want to know your context for ‘King B’. It could be any number of things that actually DO need toning down, to be honest.

This plan, which started as a joke, had actual stability to it and Clay knew if their mothers caught wind of it they’d want to contribute in their own ways. Could be the very project to bring the Lee and Hill families together before their wedding day. “I wouldn’t have thought of any of those things. Cook, someone retired but with experience. Not food poisoning and burning down the house.” He added the last two as a joke and kissed her cheek before he rolled onto his back. “The wedding has to happen before January, right? Which means if we are to do this then we need to find land and set to work on it this week. Should we let our moms know what’s happening or keep them in the dark?” His hand went to rest on his chest as he pulled at Gracie to partially lay on top of his side. 

“Now when it comes to theme songs of the 90′s girl-pop variety, I have hardly any say in. The only group that comes to mind is Destiny’s Child and I don’t think Say My Name fits what you’re going for.”

Gracie propped herself up on one elbow, mildly surprised in spite of herself that Clay was on board with what could potentially be a total hare-brained scheme – and that he actually managed to make it sound perfectly feasible. He always managed to surprise her like that. “Could we look at existing properties too, maybe? It might be easier and faster if we renovate an old house instead of building new from the ground up, right? Like – no cutting down trees and pouring foundations and – stuff,” she said vaguely, waving one hand. She had enough of a working knowledge of what Clay did to get herself in trouble, but it still fascinated her nonetheless. “We can let our moms know later, I think – I have a feeling they might go a little nuts if we mention a huge project like this without a solid plan of attack just yet.”

With a grin, Gracie leaned over to give him a smacking kiss right on the lips before propping her chin on his chest. “That’s probably not quite the vibe we’re going for – cheating boyfriend, no thank you – but we have options. I’m thinking PEAK Spice Girls here,” she added, barely keeping a straight face at the suggestion.

Matt was going out on a limb here, knowing that there was the chance Blaine would push him off and tell him to cut it out. If it wasn’t for what he saw on their phones; their stupidly drunk yet happy faces at the alter but more so what they did in this very room. On this bed they sat on. Matt has his history. One he doesn’t exactly keep track of but Blaine was aware of it. Very well aware of it as he’s brought it up before numerous times in their conversations. 

But Matt…Matt was going with what he saw on their phones, that he wasn’t just him that felt that drive to make this work. To at least try. That there was something in their alcohol-induced decision to tie the knot because both of them felt they could work.

Maybe it was stupid and maybe it was the tiny romantic that lived in his heart; the very one that thrived off this kiss he just gave to someone who meant such a great deal to him. 

And when Matt felt Blaine’s hand on his chest he moved in closer. There was no push back. There was no laughter or Blaine stumbling to play off what happened. 

There was a question. 

One that Matt knew would be hard for him to string words together but he knew Blaine needed to hear it. “You and I both know I won’t get bored with you in a month. I talk to you more than anyone else and that’s been going on for over ten years.” he said, his hand went down the front of Blaine’s shirt and Matt’s eyes followed. His forehead pressed against the man’s and as he spoke his tone was serious. “I want for us to give this a chance. I want you to give it an honest chance and not run off to get it annulled. You can call me crazy all you want and I might not be the best when it comes to explaining what’s happening in my head, or even my heart, but what I do know is now that we’ve got this I don’t want to let it go.” 

Matt’s eyes returned to his as he spoke and his hand covered the one Blaine had pressed against his chest. “I know my past and everything I’ve done goes against this but trust me when I tell you this, Blaine-” he kissed his lips again. It was soft and didn’t last as long as the one before but Matt’s eyes closed as he did it. “I’ll be even more fun as your idiot husband.”

More than anyone, Blaine knew exactly how difficult it was for Matt to be serious -- to cut the jokes for five minutes and talk about something with real weight and vulnerability. And usually he didn’t push, content to wait for Matt to come to him when he was ready to talk, and to approach those conversations on his own terms.

Still, this wasn’t the sort of thing that Blaine could take on blind faith. He might have let go of the idea of the fairy tale years ago, but there was still a part of him that wanted someone to choose to be with him -- not because he was convenient, or because they made a dumb mistake while drunk. He and Matt had been friends for so long that they had a pretty unique foundation to build upon, but it hadn’t ever occurred to him that Matt might choose this -- that he might actually want... more.

And it wasn’t that he thought Matt couldn’t commit to one person -- he just thought it would probably take someone extraordinary to catch and hold his attention like that, and Blaine highly doubted that he’d fit that description himself. Even now, he was tempted to pinch himself just in case he was hallucinating -- that would make more sense than Matt saying that he wanted to stay married, in Blaine’s mind.

“If this is all just an elaborate plan to get into my pants again, it won’t work,” Blaine said with a watery laugh. He tucked his cheek close against Matt’s and closed his eyes, lacing their fingers together and looping his other hand around the back of the Matt’s neck hesitantly. “...That was a lie. It’s definitely working. But only a little bit,” he added in a low voice, and admitting that out loud (even with the teasing caveat) felt almost freeing.

He pulled back just enough to look Matt in the eye, nodding slightly. “Okay. We’ll give it a chance. But just to warn you -- I’m not hyphenating. Blaine Anderson-Davidson doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.”

When Matt first met Blaine, it was through their dads at a company Christmas party. Matt’s first words to the guy, which he’d forgotten due to how drunk he was, was more than likely a pick up line. One that sometimes worked but it hadn’t that night. Getting rejected like that was different and it intrigued him because he fancied himself everyone’s type. That intrigue turned to him pestering the guy and over the years that morphed into a friendship he could never, ever live without. And, just as that friendship flourished, so did his underlying feelings for him and he asked him out and made comments but it was always brushed off as Matt being Matt.

And, in turn, Matt saw it as Blaine not being into him because he’s too much of a train wreck when it comes to his personal life.

Shit, he wouldn’t have said two times he doesn’t share well; completely pointing out that Matt’s track record with relationships was spectacularly shitty.

He sat in silence and felt the weight Blaine laid on them - sharing those worries and dissection of the type of person he is. He didn’t know if Blaine was telling him this because he felt Matt wasn’t aware. But he was. He was very aware of those insecurities and fear. That Blaine worried incessantly about falling for someone who’d, in turn, hurt him so deep that he’d not be able to crawl back out of it.

Matt’s face turned to his, seeing the way Blaine’s dark brows creased and how there was such a troubled expression in his eyes. His hand reached over and squeezed Blaine’s, this act of affection not new between them but when Matt leaned over; instead of laying his head onto his best friend’s shoulder, his lips met his for the first time where the both of them are sober to be aware of it.

It was a sweet kiss, nothing like the kind he imagined giving him when Matt thought about the day Blaine would finally let him in. Matt’s hand went to Blaine’s cheek and turned to face him better, going in for a deeper kiss before pulling back. “Well, you already know I’m a little crazy so going into a marriage we haven’t planned or ever, ever discussed kind of falls into that category. But, Blaine, I’ve wanted us to get together for years. I know all these things about you and even with those insecurities, and the shit you know about me, that hasn’t stopped me from wanting to get with you. I figured we’d have gone on at least one date before eloping. But maybe doing things out of order might be what we needed.”

There were any number of ways Matt could have responded to Blaine’s careful, methodical list of all the ways he was potentially the worst possible match for someone like Matt – with a joke, most likely, or a lewd comment about how at least he had a great ass. Their very first meeting had been a cheesy pick-up line that made newly-out teenage Blaine panic, with his vaguely disapproving father less than ten feet away while some guy blatantly hit on him, and Blaine had reacted instinctively with a smart-assed, sassy comment and brushed it aside – the inauspicious start to years of quippy back-and-forth that made Blaine laugh just as often as it drove him crazy. So even a lame come-on would have been in character, in terms of their friendship.

The last thing Blaine had expected was that kiss.

In those moments of weakness when he’d pictured what might happen between them, he’d always assumed that it would be like the tension of a rubber band snapping -- sharp and aggressive and so sudden it would leave him dizzy. He’d seen Matt with others often enough to know that he didn’t hold back when he kissed someone, and to quietly, privately envy being the focus of that much raw need.

Matt’s hand on his cheek -- his fingers curled around Blaine’s -- both of them almost holding their breath -- that first tentative brush of Matt’s lips against his -- not desperate or fierce but careful and so, so sweet.

Almost like Matt kissing Blaine meant something. Like it mattered.

He’d never been afraid of Matt before, could never be afraid of him, but for a brief instant, one hand clutching at Matt’s shirt blindly, Blaine was... terrified. He was dizzy and speechless and no longer sure which way was up, but it was suddenly glaringly obvious that despite his very best efforts, Matt could actually break him. And Blaine? Blaine would probably let him.

“You are crazy,” Blaine whispered, his eyes dazed and his voice a little unsteady. “You’ll -- probably get bored of me in less than a month.” He knew he had no poker face, so Matt had to know just how shaken he was --  not nearly as unaffected as he wished he could be. “I don’t -- what do you want from me? From this, I mean? Because -- god, Matt, you make it sound like you want this to be a real marriage. Please... don’t ask me for that unless you’re sure.”
