I can’t believe this guy mansplained mansplaining.
Correctile dysfunction
According to Merriam-Webster an ultracrepidarian “offers advice on matters they perhaps should leave alone” and that makes this even funnier to me

one thing i really liked about thor ragnarok that i havent seen a lot of folks on my dash talking about was its critique of imperialism and the ultimate message that a nation founded on the violent takeover of others doesn’t deserve to exist and will be the author of its own destruction, though its people may be innocent of their country’s past crimes
another thing i really liked about thor ragnarok is jeff goldblum’s painted nails
also it’s a great story about how the destruction and/or theft of land, though incredibly traumatic, does not signal the end of culture and identity, which is held within the peoples of the diaspora (he’s māori and has jewish ancestry so like!!! holy shit yes). taika waititi not-so-secretly appropriating a marvel franchise for the purposes of de-/post-colonial storytelling is a power move and now my hype for black panther has been reinvigorated
i also liked jeff goldblum’s blue eyeliner
how about the gilded fake history falling away to show the more violent, imperialist truth, and the way thor was not allowed to shrug off how he was part of a legacy of violence and conquering of innocents, but in fact forced to face the ultimate consequences of the evil done by his father (which he has been complicit in bt failing to critically consiser Asgard’s past, as we all must consider our culture’s past in order to move past it, which involves accepting consequences and consciously working to do better)
also jeff goldblum’s one armed gold robe was iconic

I saw this thread on Twitter and it’s haunting. I just want to tell this story to every single person talking about “both sides are just as bad.”
Guys, please be careful to vet that what you choose to signal boost is actually accurate. I’m seeing a lot of well-intentioned posts today about Net Neutrality that are likely to do just as much harm as good due to misinformation in them.
For instance, we are not all suddenly shouting that the sky is falling because the FCC has PASSED the bill abolishing Net Neutrality and the changes are to be put in place some time this month. As claimed by one post I just saw with over 5,000 notes already. This is simply, unequivocally NOT true, and it can actually get in the way of the call to action that very post made, asking people to call and email their congressmen, because a lot of people who see that might think “what’s the point, if its already passed?”
It hasn’t. Chairman Ajit Pai of the FCC unveiled in April his proposed plan to strike back the Net Neutrality regulations Obama’s administration passed in 2015, and which have since 2015 been upheld by the courts in the face of Republican opposition’s attempts to claim they overreached. What has people shouting the sky is falling NOW is because yesterday (November 21st) is when the date of the official vote on this proposed plan was announced. That date is December 14th.
Which means there IS still time to affect the outcome of the vote. People are pessimistic about the chances of this vote because the FCC board is held by a Republican majority at the moment, but make the passing of this bill seem toxic enough to other Republican interests and there is still a chance to keep it from passing.
Which is still a hell of a lot better than assuming the bill has already passed and that there’s really no point.
We have until December 14th to kick up enough of a fuss that the Republicans on the FCC board think twice about voting for this bill. And even after that, there are still legal recourses. The courts have refused to uphold other bills Trump’s administration has attempted to pass as overreaching, unconstitutional, and/or in opposition of the true will of the people - just as the Republicans attempted to do back in 2015 when the FCC under Obama passed the Net Neutrality laws in the first place.
This does not mean be complacent. This does not mean assume enough other people will raise enough of a fuss without adding your voice to the mix. It simply means THERE IS STILL TIME TO ACT. The sky may be falling, but until it finishes falling, there’s still a chance to catch it instead.
We have until December 14th to kick up enough of a fuss that the Republicans on the FCC board think twice about voting for this bill.
there IS still time to affect the outcome of the vote.
THIS IS WHAT YOU SIGNAL BOOST
Surreal Animated Photos and Artworks by Nicolas Monterrat
i love this photo because at first you think that she was going to get married but instead her husband to be left her, or something like that. but actually its quite the opposite. i clicked on the source and it brought me to an article explaining the story behind this photo, and shes not crying, shes hungover. her and her husband went to a football game on their wedding day, and got extremely drunk and partied all night. they took the subway home because they couldn’t drive. so no, its not a sad heartbreaking story, its a crazy joyful one. which in my opinion makes the picture even more amazing.
My first thought was actually: oh man, she ran like hell away from her wedding and now she’s just tired from running.
This card raises many questions

I want you all to know that an Arab Muslim from Tunis proposed the Theory of Evolution near 600 years before Charles Darwin even took his first breath. Don’t let them erase you.
his name is Ibn Khaldun
Also, it was not the apple falling from a tree that made Issac Newton “discover” gravity. He was reading the books of Ibn Al Haytham, an Arab Muslim from Iraq, who pioneered the scientific method, discovered gravity and wrote about the laws governing the movement of bodies (now known as Newtons three laws of motion) some 600 years before Newton existed. Without him, modern science as we know it wouldn’t exist. Read on him. His achievements are far greater than what I’ve just mentioned here.
#no offense but arabs literally invented chemistry and algebra and we came up with the concept of the camera #the cataract operation that’s still practiced today was invented by an Arab #we created alchemy and the wright brothers used abbas ibn firnas’ findings and writings to build on to create a plane #I could go on and on and on #pls don’t erase our scientific history
I reblog this post every time I see it
The islamic empire was just. so good at promoting cross cultural knowledge and it had such a well defined central point, the pursuit of knowledge was so perfectly encouraged…
Al-Jahiz did it too.
A Crumbling Building in Greenpoint Now Features a Ghoulish Skull by Suitswon
Yup.
speaking of misogyny
let me tell you guys something that ACTUALLY happened in my screenwriting class last week
one of the female writers in our class is writing a feature about this gang of teenage girls who sort of become vigilantes and murder men who harass women (that’s a shitty logline of it but it’s actually fucking awesome and highly stylized and over-exaggerated like tarantino in a good way bc i fucking hate tarantino). ANYWAY their first kill is this guy named taylor. taylor is one of the girl’s boyfriends. it is heavily implied and the writer confirmed that he abuses and rapes her. not explicitly seen, but she has bruises, there are scenes implying it etc.
so. she wrote the part where they kill taylor. and one of my professor’s comments was about how he felt like he didn’t hate taylor enough.
to which me and my female friend were like um what?? we hate him. he fucking raped and abused her. wE HATE HIM. HE IS A HORRIBLE PERSON.
and my prof was like well yeah i hate him but i don’t HATE hate him. and we argued about it. so he took a poll of who hated taylor. ALL of the girls in the class raised their hands. none of the boys did. when he asked who didn’t hate taylor all of the men raised their hands. and me and my friend started laughing because of COURSE they did.
and my prof was like why are you laughing and the writer was like “i think they’re laughing at the gender difference in that answer” and my prof was like “well, from my male perspective, i don’t think i’m being sexist”
WHAT.
first of all did you hear that sentence at ALL do you understand how paradoxical it is?????
second of all, no. just no.
and then my prof went on to say “i feel like we need to see taylor be horrible. like bad solution, he kicks a dog”
evidently a man can abuse and rape a girl and not be hated, but if he kicks a dog then he’s PURE EVIL
and THAT is exactly what’s wrong with our society

“World’s Blackest Black” Absorbs So Much Light It Makes 3D Objects Look Flat
do not like
Out today is Jughead #14, which concludes the current Jughead/Reggie arc with a bang, and which also has special variant covers by Chip Zdarsky and Joe Quinones! It is also, sadly, the conclusion of my run on the book!
It was so great to work with Derek Charm on this - his drawings of the race scene in issue #12 are some of my favourite things I’ve seen in a comic, and they totally elevated whatever goofy gags I wrote. Also, his Superman-squint-eyed Reggie is objectively the best way to draw the character, and his version of Sabrina is the new canonical greatest version. THOSE ARE JUST THE FACTS. Derek will rule over us all in a few years, but he will be kind.
Thanks to Chip Zdarsky too (who came back to do a “Burgers 4 Ever” variant cover for my last issue (aww Chip)) who relaunched Jughead way back at issue #1, and whose work I could only build on! I said when I started that there was nothing broken there that needed fixing, and I stand by it! All I did was add a lady in a burger costume.
Thanks also to Team Archie and to Mike Pellerito in particular, who to his eternal credit kept listening when I said “what if Jughead… met a burger?” as my pitch. It was tons of fun to get to write characters I’ve been reading for most of my life, and I hope you enjoy the comics (including Jughead #14, out today!) even half as much as I enjoyed writing them.
The book isn’t ending! #15 comes out next month, with a new story written by Mark Waid and Ian Flynn, and with Derek Charm on art, because he is the best.
These books are great.
