blake siblings who feel equally responsible for providing for each other on opposite ends of the spectrum. gwen who takes on the role of assertiveness and protection, finney who takes on a softer edge to provide in ways that their mother could no longer do.

their love language is providing in ways that neither of them are able to fully accept. finney doesn’t want his sister getting hurt trying to protect him, gwen doesn’t want him to neglect himself while providing for her. secretly there’s so much love there for every moment that they refuse to concede.

part of that tough front is batting his hands away when he tries to braid her hair, but secretly she’s a little girl from a home that she has to walk on eggshells. she didn’t get very long with their mother, and it was a long time before she really had a father. but she did and she always will have a big brother who loves her, who braids her hair and lets her cry on his shoulder and doesn’t think anyone in the world is good enough for her.

and even if finney can’t protect her from everything, isn’t allowed to even breathe in the direction of her battles before she’s diving in fists swinging, he can provide at least in this. in a soft hand that no one else could provide, in a love and care and protection in the neat ribbons tied in her hair. and in that, at least, there is peace.
