I am reading an omegaverse fic with a transgender(?) character where an he is an Alpha but feels like he’s more of an omega. Can I just say how beautiful it is. My eyes are open now. This is transcending the game.
Honest this is just one part of this absolutely amazing fic. Words cannot describe how much I love what I’m reading rn.
this is one of my most favorite of the a/b/o niches tbh. right up there with gayness in omegaverse (alpha/alpha, omega/omega, sometimes beta/omega & beta/alpha). nothing's more fun than when an au gets into some of the deeper societal aspects.
so far i've seen transness (???), as it were, explored in several different fun ways in a/b/o btw! it, as always, depends on the universe specifics. in a/b/o AUs where there's still a more traditional gender distinction (i.e, male omegas still have dicks, female alphas still have vaginas, there's no such things as intersex omegas) focus a lot more on the behavioral aspects and group dynamics/culture, while the AUs where all omegas have vaginas or male omegas and female alphas are intersex focus more on the physical aspects. which i think makes sense. in the former, secondary gender can have less of a connection to the sex of a person (unless the author goes down the "male omegas are a rarity and/or unnatural" path) and more emphasis on, like, ✨vibes✨. or maybe that's just the fics i've read, who knows. anyways, behavior, personality, social roles, etc.
in an au like a/b/o, what it means to be "trans" is heavily determined by what it means to be a particular thing in the first place, so this topic can have so many different layers in an a/b/o au. what the different "types," if you will, of trans a character in an a/b/o au could be.
unrelated, but i remember a skz fic i read awhile back where one of the members was "gender fluid," but not in the human gender way. they were subgender or dynamic fluid. some days they felt like an omega, some days they felt like an alpha, all while still being perfectly content in their identity as a cis male doin' cis male stuff. very fun read.

My mom just recently watched Hannibal for the first time. When she was done we talked about it and she said 2 things:
1) she didn’t like how it ended, said it felt unfinished
2) Hannibal and Will were very very gay
And obviously I had to agree with both points

See, I don’t mind reading normal books in first person because it’s a character we don’t know yet and we can see into their brain. But with fanfic? Third person is the way to go. Especially for a show (which most fanfic is based on). But if the original source material is a book in first person, I would say it’s acceptable.
Me when Zukka is becoming popular but I’ve been onto them since day one it just means there will be more fandom content of them now

A conversation my sister and I just had
Her: do you think they celebrate Mother’s Day in the omegaverse?
Me: I’m sure they do
Her: what would they call it? Omega’s day? No because not all omegas have kids and betas have kids too
Me: you’re right 🤔
Her: Birth day? Oh wait ha no 🤣
Me: well I’ve seen them use “Dam” and “Sire” when talking about parents since it’s gender neutral in some fics
Her: Ooooh so like Dam day and Sire day instead of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day? That works
Me: hmm yeah
see, mine and my cousin's question isn't whether or not they celebrate mother's day, but rather whether or not they differentiate between male omegas and female omegas, the inherent connotations of mother vs father, etc. we've ultimately come to the conclusion that it depends on the author's specific universe, much like the terminology surrounding the day. i especially enjoy the thought of this in universes where authors make male omegas something of a rarity or fluke, because this implies a female majority where mother only refers to women and thus "mother's" day still fits. but then you get to have fun in-universe discourse about "mother's" day being an appropriate term because "male omegas exist guys, not everyone who gives birth is a mother," which of course unleashes even more arguments in the comment section of some poor 20-year-old's happy mother's day post regarding the validity of male omegas and how "wouldn't they be fathers anyways?". it's fun to think about because this type of discourse would be irrelevant in an a/b/o universe where all humans who give birth are seen as mothers and male omegas are common, etc and so forth.

Wonderful and insightful addition. I also love to think about political and social logistics of the omegaverse in my free time. This is the kind of brain stimulating conversations people need to be having I’m telling you.
