My younger sibling came out as nonbinary/trans yesterday. This is something I saw coming and obviously fully support. The most important thing to me is their happiness, full stop. I will fight for that forever.

But I’m also terrified. Our mom died 11 years ago (I was 12, they were 4) and I ended up having to play the “mom” role in their life. We’ve never really been siblings the way most siblings are. We also live in a pretty red state in the US, and with everything going on, I’m terrified that they’re going to be hurt or something’s going to happen to them.

Anyway, does anyone have any advice? Only one other person I’ve been close to has come out as trans and we were in middle school, so I just…I just want to make sure I, and the rest of my family for that matter, don’t mess this up.
