A huge metal hand blocking missiles from hitting a unit of infantry, before picking the soldiers up and flying them straight to the enemy artillery for a surprise attack. A fallen mech being used as cover by the soldiers while their medic tends to the injured pilot. Not having to worry about enemy ships swooping down on your head because there's a mech patrolling near you.
