Being uncomfortable is just a part of life. Wishing for a life when you are always within your comfort zone is a practice in unreality. We all go through times when we feel uncomfortable, awkward, or just out of place. Christian living is no exception.
As Christians, we are called to a life of service, rather than comfortability. Jesus doesn’t call us in to a life of relaxation, but rather the exact opposite.
Jesus says in Matthew 16:24, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me”.
Following Jesus isn’t a life of luxury, in fact, Jesus compares it to dying rather than living. In order to truly live in Christ, we must first die to our flesh. Our old way of life has been crucified on the cross with our savior, and we have been given a new birth in Jesus, by the same power that raised him from the dead.
However, this new life is not our own, but Christ who lives through us (Galatians 2:20). Christianity is call to a life of service to our king, shepherd, and most loyal friend, Jesus Christ. But we are not just called to service him (as servants in a mansion or castle) but to be apart of his royal family. We are not just servants of God, we are adopted into his family. We are all royalty through Christ.
Since we are adopted into his family, we must also follow the Father’s will. This is where things start to get uncomfortable, even for some of his most devoted followers. Jesus will call us to do things with our lives that we may have never even considered, or expose parts of our lives that go against his character.
While this is unpleasant, and very uncomfortable, it is very necessary for our walk in Christ. Jesus molds us into his image just as potter molds his pottery, and it’s through this period of uncomfortability that he begins to work his wonders.
In order for the builder to have a sturdy house, he must lay a sturdy foundation. But first, he has to clear away all the weeds, rocks, cracks, and other things that’ll happen the building process. However, once everything is clear, the foundation will be secure, and the building can begin.
Though we are uncomfortable for a moment, what God is doing next will completely and utterly outshine this period of unrest. Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning. It’s once we get out of our comfort zone that we will begin to experience the joy of a life lived for Jesus.
This time of uncomfortability also builds up our faith in the Lord Jesus. It’s through this time that our faith begins to grow in his timing, work, and his plan for us and our lives. Faith is built up over time, and we gain the most outside of our comfort zone. Once we have a firm grasp on our shield of faith, we will be protected from the fiery snares of the enemy.
God works all things for the good of those who love him, including times of grief and unrest. The rousing only brings forth more fruit, and the clearing away can only lead to a new beginning. So I urge you (if you read this far lol) to remain strong in the faith, recalling the promises of Jesus to complete his good works within us, and for us to be made in his image in the next life.
If you’re having trouble with this, feel free to comment and I will be sure to keep you in my prayers.
Stay strong, Jesus has got this, and you as well.
God bless, Jesus loves you ✝️❤️
