For an agonizing few seconds, we silently stand watching each other, the pressure of unsaid words hanging between us. The ghost of us, what we could have been, had I made a different decision by those train tracks, pulses around us. Sometimes, I ask myself if I made the right choice that day. It’s times like these where I almost come up with a different answer.

With the second Quarter Quell approaching, Peeta must now use his fuzzy knowledge of the future to help the looming rebellion, warn District Twelve of the firebombs, and prepare to enter yet another arena. All while trying to ignore the tug in his chest always drawing him back to her.

I’ll try my best to answer your questions but fair warning, I’ve had 1 (or 2) martinis with dinner so I may ramble (apologies). If you remember, Haymitch in the fic made a very important promise to Peeta before the Games (that he didn’t make to him in canon): the sponsor gifts are to be evenly split in half. No choosing one tribute over the other. It’s possible that any medicine he would’ve sent could’ve been too expensive and gone over that 50/50 promise he made. As for the sleeping syrup, Peeta was perfectly healthy enough to attend the feast this time around. In canon, he threatened to crawl his sick dying self and follow Katniss to the feast. Most distressingly, he threatened to shout to bring attention to himself so he would be targeted instead of Katniss. But in the fic, he’s not dying so Haymitch would have no reason to send the sleep syrup.

Haymitch’s timing for sure always has underlining messages. I think it was part protection but also part reward for Katniss for opening up emotionally (which is what he always has trouble getting her to do) but also reminding them that they’re on live tv lol

Sorry it took me so long to get to this one! I just had the hardest time thinking of an answer 😭 Peeta and Katniss are so stubborn, but like so am I 😈

The only thing I can think of is Peeta's refusal to tell Katniss the truth about the time-travel. Me, the author, can easily fix it, and I'm screaming at my screen sometimes for him to just do it, but the plot says no, so he wins that round, I guess 🙄
