bro it's so fucked that the facebook algo seems to have recently decided to show me like "content for lonely mid-30s men" and it's this cursed combination of like
videos of girls of questionably-legal age dressed up as videogame characters doing some like pixar face shit
a very specific genre of young redheads going on about how they're really attracted to older men or even their dad's friends ????
some weird kind of "goth gf" femdom-ish kind of stuff?
"dating advice" at varying points on the reasonable-observation/seething-incel spectrum...a lot of these guys are in march 2026 still seething about that "man vs bear" post lmao
women basically doing redpill/MRA talking points, i guess to pander to their audience? Kind of a uniquely pathetic type of person tbh.
like i know it's old news to say that these social media algorithms are fucked but like...yeah, they're pretty fucked lmao.
also it's like serving me up this kind of ragebait slop
"Arguing with men about the bill? In this economy?"
it feels like a troll article to me? like she has this rule in her head that contradicts a notional commitment to equality because of her daddy issues. come on.and i mean:
I'm looking for signs of partnership. When a man reaches for the bill without hesitation, it's not about the cost. It's about the instinct to handle things. Leadership in small moments signals leadership in larger ones.
well are you looking for a partner or a leader? These are very different things, and i'm not sure that calling for your male romantic partner to provide you with "leadership in larger moments" is actually compatible with calling oneself a feminist. But, whatever, the contents of the article aren't really the point.
Now in the comments of the facebook post that i got to this link through there are mostly men being really aggrieved, and i take it that getting this response = engagement = money -- so it being an incoherent mess of an article is kind of the point. It's ragebait. But -- it's also going to be the case that there will be people for whom this kind of crap is the primary way that the concept of "feminism" is presented to them. Under-rated component of the rise of online misogyny imo.
although actually having been exposed to like cursed normie dating discourse recently, there do seem to be a lot of women who are trying to do a sort of "woke complementarianism" thing
Benevolent sexism is the Mormon speaking. It is the mind killer. Society must kidnap it via the down with cis bus and when itβs dead put it on the front of the bus like the stuff at the end of ship bows
idk if Iβd call it benevolent sexism, but I see a lot of βmen need to wine+dine you, provide serious financial value, etc because as the woman youβre the prize and this is what #feminism means to meβ type posts.
on a certain level, I donβt even disagree, I think women bring innate value to a relationship in a way that men donβt, simply because we need women far more than they need us.
But idk how this actually functions in practice, there are by definition fewer βmen richer than meβ than there are women at any given social bracket.
idk, as a guy whoβs kinda goofy looking and also makes basically no money, Iβm team βthe hot broke guy should get the girlβ. Iβd rather be friends with the hot broke guy; heβs beating me in an avenue for which I respect him. Every time a beautiful woman marries some local businessman who looks like a walking turd in a golf shirt, an angel cries
Yes, this is literally benevolent sexism. Conservatives and makeup advertisers have been rebranding sexism as "#Feminism" for a while now; it still is what it is.
As to the statement that men need women more than the reverse.. in a sense that does appear to be somewhat true; certainly there are multiple studies indicating that women are more likely to report happiness/high life satisfaction while single than men/ that being in a relationship is more likely to have a positive effect on life satisfaction and even life expectancy for men than for women.
But before we decide this is because of some kind of magic Value Source in the Divine Feminine Soul or some shit, we should consider alternatives.
For instance, does sexism mean that on average women are more likely to be in a relationship with someone who doesn't really respect them?
Are men socialised not to give or receive physical and emotional intimacy within platonic friendships and even familial relationships with other men, leaving women as their only potential source of these things?
Are middle-aged women likely to be making sure their partners eat right and make their doctor's appointments, while also having to ensure that they do those things for themselves whether they're partnered or not?
Are these things helped by telling men that they should treat women as a prize to be bought and not fellow human beings, or.. the opposite of that?
What's really interesting to me is that this is the shit that's being presented by social media algorithms as what "feminism" means, at least ot some of the population: women making basically incoherent demands. We're equals and also you have to win me like a prize, take leadership, "give me the princess treatment", and if you don't pay for the meal on a date that's a "red flag".
I don't have a strong objection to this set of preferences, but they are not feminist. The straightforwardly feminist position would be that a man paying for a meal is a patriarchal norm, and since the personal is political it's a practice that should be rejected.
I also do kind of think that in practice you do kind of have to make a choice as to whether you want to be a dependent or an equal. If you start a relationship on the basis of the man taking leadership and paying for everything, do you really expect to then transition to an egalitarian relationship? I'm not saying it's impossible but there's an obvious tension there imo.
The stuff i'm describing here is coming to my facebook feed alongside advertisements for onlyfans accounts, semi-redpill content, and for some reason dramatic readings of r/AITA threads. This pseudo-feminism is clearly part of an ecosystem with these other things, i think.
Anyway, don't have a proper analysis of any of it but that's what i'm being served by the facebook algo.
i mean i was basically lost in the sauce of this stuff 12 years ago when the online gender wars were at their peak and yeah it's bad. that was before algorithms were advanced and it was people sharing ragebait on reddit or whatever and being terminally online (and what broke me out of it was talking to people IRL + a few very impactful things i found like ozy on tumblr and the SSC posts on toxoplasma and different worlds etc. which has just gotten even worse now and 'talking to people IRL' might not even help cause it's not restricted to terminally online people anymore).
ocasionally i notice my youtube algorithm drifting that way and i have to deliberately spend time 'do not recommend this channel' ing a bunch of stuff to sort it again (although it hasn't done that in a while, but i remember when andrew tate was big it felt like I had to actively avoid youtube wanting to push my recommendations in that direction, and i only rarely watch shorts and don't have tiktok/ facebook).
I kinda feel like i got immunity from smallpox by having had cowpox early.
I tried out looking at my Reddit feed a few times and based on the scant information I had (that I am english and have at least once commented on a political event) it figured that I surely must be a massive raging racist whose primary hobby is to read a never-ending stream of every crime ever committed by a person with brown skin, with comment sections full of nothing but Restore party slogans and wounded self-victimisation.
It really makes me miss my SJWs. Always have had lots to complain about but at least fielding the idea that the lives of people who do not share our nationality and """""values""""" have some moral weight would not be laughed out of the room.
"Man vs bear" was not that long ago, was widespread, was utterly inexcusably vile, and laughing at people for being "still mad" about it is just utterly awful.
"Lol, are you still mad at that part where half the fucking people you know decided to remind you that they hate you and view you as subhuman? Seethe more, incel! You should tirelessly accept the hatred of other people and welcome the fact that you are responsible for the emotions of other people, if you want to get the sexual attention of women that gives you human worth!"
According to ChatGPT, the man vs bear thing started as a social media post. I think it spread partly because it's just so ludicrously dunkable.
This makes it more similar to the red vs blue death pill post. Its appropriate use is as an example of "dumb gender discourse," "popular dumb gender discourse," or "popular dumb gender discourse that is hostile to men," but it's not institutional (e.g. Duluth Model) or properly ideological.
The virality of it works against its use as a diagnostic.
Its awesome, they finally monetized making people mad on the internet.
"warm, shallow seas" is one of the most beautiful phrases in paleontology and it's everywhere... these mollusks lived in warm, shallow seas... scientists think that photosynthetic life evolved in warm, shallow seas... in that era the Earth was covered by warm, shallow seas...
I wish I was resting by an antediluvian warm, shallow sea
prosecutor: im assuming bobs burgers, is, ahem, excuse me, aΒ βreddit show?β
me: that is also correct
if it was nonsense how did you perfectly understand it and get exactly as mad at it as i would expect you to
