I think Dawn would have a lot of respect for Jenny, the way she lives her life, and the choices she makes. But one thing Dawn would NEVER understand, is why Ms. Calendar and Giles aren’t married. No matter how Jenny tries to explain not wanting to get married, Dawn has the same argument.

Jenny: Some people don’t need marriage, Dawn. Besides, I’ve said this a thousand times, my people-

Dawn: Your family would never accept your marriage. Jenny, I KNOW! But he’s yours anyway, what difference does it make?

Jenny: And what difference does it make to NOT be married?

Dawn: There’s a difference to Giles.

Jenny: Dawn, he and I have talked about this EXTENSIVELY. He doesn’t care.

Dawn: Sure he SAYS he doesn’t care, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t.

Jenny: He doesn’t.

Dawn: Sure.

Jenny: Well, the difference matters to me and I don’t want to choose.

Dawn: Choose what?

Jenny: If I marry him, I’m choosing him over my people.

Dawn: Who said that? And besides, you already DID.

Jenny: No, I-

Dawn: You picked him. That’s why you’re with him.

Jenny stared at her.

Dawn: If your family told you that you couldn’t have him anymore, would you ever listen?

Jenny: No.

Dawn: Then there’s your answer.

Jenny: It’s not that simple-

Dawn: It really is. You love him more than anything. Why do you act like marrying him would take something away?

Jenny: My culture is important to me. My-

Dawn: And what about marrying GILES takes away from your culture? He lets you do WHATEVER. I’ve never seen a man LESS in his girlfriend’s business, actually.

Jenny: Dawn-

Dawn: Whatever. But if you EVER marry someone that isn’t him-

Jenny: And why would I do THAT?!?

Dawn: I’m just SAYING! Giles loves you more than anything. So if you’re gonna marry someone, it better be him.

Jenny: I’m not marrying anyone, Dawn. Ever.

Dawn: Fine. Whatever. I just know he would marry YOU in a heartbeat.

Something about that sounded suspiciously like Rupert had discussed this with Dawn.

Jenny: What did he say to you?

Dawn: What?

Jenny: Rupert. Giles- what did he say to you?

Dawn: He didn’t say anything.

Jenny: Dawn-

Dawn: He didn’t! I asked him why you weren’t married and he said you didn’t wanna get married. And when I asked why he said it was none of my business and to stop being so nosey and that if I was gonna keep being nosey, I could at least ask YOU.
